  1. Wait, why did I have to (re?)upload my profile photo? Or did I just completely forget to do that when I joined ages ago? Am I getting old? O_o

  2. Ok. It's time someone made a TSLPatcher compatible mod installer for mac.

Looks like I know what I'll have to do this weekend

Also, you can quite easily figure out how changed data is mangled during conversion by:

      1) Convert a binary 2DA into ASCII 2DA

      2) Change the ASCII 2DA

      3) Convert the ASCII 2DA back into binary 2DA

      4) Convert this binary 2DA into ASCII 2DA again

      5) Make sure the data is still sensible

As for Excel-editable. Well, convert2da can *write* CSV files, which are easy to open in Excel. It can't read them, though. So it can only do 2DA->CSV, not CSV->2DA. That's something I might want to add, yes.

Oh, no, *that* is not an issue.

The ASCII 2DA reader doesn't care about the length of the field. Only that the cells are separated by a space or TAB character. So changing the length of a field doesn't destroy anything. Adding a space ("2745" -> "27 45") would break it, though.

      Sorry :(

My point is: I'd very much like the xoreos-tools to be useful. If you (or anyone else, for that matter) have idea for improving them, I'd love to hear them. PM me, or mail me or contact me however you'd like. Contact info are aplenty on my website, which is linked on my profile.

      I'll shut up now.

(Also, sorry if I added lots of noise here now. Longer comments seem to get cut off? ¯(°_o)/¯)

As for a graphical 2DA editor, that might be something for Phaethon, a graphical resource explorer thing. Like xoreos-tools, it's a sub-project of xoreos. It's currently mostly abandoned, though, as I concentrate on other things.

Also, it uses wxWidgets, which I at least am getting quite annoyed at. Maybe the GUI code in Phaethon should be rewritten with Qt.

True, a misplaced space in an ASCII 2DA might explode the game. But that's true in general. Maybe a tool to print general statistics, like row/column count might be useful? Or maybe reading in CSV files, because they're harder to mess up (and can be edited with something like Excel)?

VarsityPuppet: Well, there's xoreos and then there's xoreos-tools, a collection of tools that mostly grow naturally out of xoreos development.

I am certainly hoping that the xoreos-tools might be useful for modding, so that I at least produced *something* useful, even if xoreos itself never gets finished or something.
