Star Wars Episode VII Discussion (MASSIVE SPOILERS)
Haveayap replied to VarsityPuppet's topic in Star Wars
The superweapon got boring along time ago, I didnt mind the Starforge because it was more of a space station than a weapon, and the super weapons werent that great in most of the other EU -

IDT her parents are relevant... Im going to suggest she was taken as a youngling like most jedi are to be trained by Luke (Im 99% certain that she was Lukes other apprentice) -

Well in NZ, we had something similar to this before the movie :/ along with lots of promotion of several other disney related franchises Thats another issue with Ep. 7, the only way to understand all of it is to go read all of the other content which I am pretty sure 90% of movie watchers do not want to do that... (the reasoning for the difference between the rep and the resistance has been explained in the books) What s ridiculous statement... No one here is actually saying TFA was a bad movie, but it has several issues such as a copy and paste of EP. 4 plot, a stupid overused super weapon, the movie does not stand on its on (to fully understand everything that has happened, you need to read other material). Im starting to believe that you are just trying to kid yourself into this movie as being the 'perfect' master piece much like the prequal haters who try and claim they are the worst films in history when it is not (No movie can be truly perfect, maybe except TESB) -

Again, TFA is not a bad movie. IMO, the super weapon has been rehashed one to many times... It was fine in Ep. 4 and 6, but ep. 7 should have gone with something new -

not everyone agrees with my opinion on ANH (I think I have already expressed some of the issues I have with Ep. 4, its obvious no one else agrees with me so Ill leave it at that), but I think most people agree with me about TFA... -

I am being harsh as I do like the movie (Probably more due to the nostalgia of it being the first SW movie), but it isnt my favorite one and it does have alot of issues with it that 90% of SW fans either fail to recognize or pretend they are not their -

Oh please, everything before the death star in ANH was boring, the battle scene (although interesting, decided to focus more on C3-PO bad comedic act and R2-D2 escape), and most of the scenes on Tatooine are bland and boring. Instead of getting to see the storm troopers (and fett) in action, we get to hear about an old man rave on about how he knew Lukes father and was a jedi once. The acting was avg at best (Mark Hammils acting in ANH was not great). If it wasnt for the introduction of the death star and the rebellion at the end of this film (which shouldnt even have been in the film as the last battle had very little to do with the actual plot, which isnt actually explained to well either. Was the plot about saving Leia? Or teaching Luke about the force? Or destroying the death star? Or even Luke getting away from tatooine... And this is one issue most people have with EP. 1), Id go as far as to say it would have one of the worst SW movies out of the 6. -

the prequels werent that bad... EP 2 was by far the worst, but ep. 1 and 3 are good movies... If you watch ANH without the nostalgia glasses on, it is actually a bad movie (Ep. 4 also has the same issues people like to point out in ep. 1 to a worse degree) and hard to enjoy the film for the first hour (who cares about lukes farming duties, or the jawa selling them droids, and that first scene with Ben Kenobi and the tusken raiders has always been utterly stupid no matter what version you watch) , its not until they get to the death star that the movie actually gets interesting (Hence why I rank Ep. 4 so low) I agree completely, TFA was essentially JJ and Disney trying to please all the OT fanboys. It was a good movie, but the plot just takes the shine away from the movie. The whole super weapon thing is really starting to get old IMO (and why would the first order make a weapon more vulnerable than the death star that can only be used twice, thats hardly threatening) and has been used one to many times. But its not just that, even alot the new characters in this movie feel like they are from the EU (Lets face it, Ben solo is similar to Ben skywalker (just different parents))... -

But Ep. 6 was just a better film full stop. More emotional, made more sense (you didnt have to read 10 books to fully understand the plot)... Ep. 7 was good, but it had nothing on EP. 5 and 6 sorry, they are in a league of themselves (and Im sure most people would agree)... Like I said before, their is nothing wrong with ep. 7, but this story line has been rehashed one to many times and mirroring ep 4 plot was annoying. I wouldnt rate Ep. 7 in league with ep 5, or 6, but id say its as good as 4, and 3 -

Im not a big fan of the MCU universe, havent watched one for a while... EP. 6 was great, so was Ep. 5... Ep. 7 was good and Id say its as good as Ep. 3, but thats it -

Its not a bad movie, Im still going to be critical off it as the rehashed plot is really annoying and lets be honest, it shouldnt of happened. As the days go by, I am getting more and more critical of the movie (It is in no way a master piece, I still prefer ep 3, 5 and 6) -

I agree with you, the movie doesnt stand on its own but it is great after you have read all the material and I hope EP. 8 and 9 are great (and dont follow recognizable plots) -

Just read this: http://screenrant.com/star-wars-journey-force-awakens-guide/2/ This is the most accurate timeline I can find (it lacks some details, but is good on the most part, keep in mind that several more books were released the same day as TFA which explains Reys connection with everyone) -
That trailer revealed alot...

in one of the books released a week before TFA (Cant remember the name as their were around 6 of them released), It goes into detail about Luke having two apprentices (As he wanted to start a jedi academy)... One was corrupted and we dont really learn what happens to the other before he goes into exile. I am just speculating; but Im assuming Rey was the other apprentice (Considering she knew how to use the force and she knew Kylos real name without being told what it is (And I doubt it was common knowledge who he was)) Id say its like they took the main plot points from ANH and ESB and mixed them into one movie -

Slight spoiler but rey has had training (why she knew kylos real name and luke was profounded to see her), she was young when that all happened -

That stupid weapon, The star killer really bugged me. I was fine with the rest on the most part, but why do the bad guys weapons get more vulnerable with each movie? Id rate the movie a 8/10 overall. The acting for the most part was great (Harrison Ford and John Boyega were great in their roles, I also felt we didnt get to see enough of Oscar Isaac). Their were also some pretty emotional scenes during the movie (My favorite being the moment when Kylo kills his father, it was so sad and to see the reaction Chewie summed it up (I also found the reactions between Leia and chewie interesting, like he blames her for something... I knew about the frictions between Leia, Han and Luke before hand because of other books and stuff, but chewies reaction again, probably summed it all up). I also feel as though Snoke could be one of the best villians in SW history, his whole backstory and rise to power (which I will not explain here, you will have to go read the material yourself) intrigues me and I really want to know about this source of 'power' that he believes lays beyond the outer rim (It sounds similar to the same source of power that the Rakatans generated to create the Star Forge, but time will tell I guess). Reys connection to the Skywalkers also interested me... It almost felt like she had been trained by someone (presumably Luke) and her mind had been wiped after a certain event (Which again, presumable Bens fall to the dark side). The score was decent as well, I really liked 'March of the resistance', 'torn apart' and the music that plays when Rey enters the temple at the end of the movie (On a side note, Id really wish that they left Han alone after this movie, I feel as though a movie about Han is not needed) -
They're not really spoilers, just bordering on the line of them When doesn't John Williams do amazing?

It was a moment of weakness... One thing led to another and next thing you know, I was on wiki leaks JJ did take a few risks in the movie (To be fair, if he had taken risks, chances are most SW fans would not like the movie and criticize him for it, atleast this way, 90% of fans love the movie and wouldnt care about the 'plot' issues) and I feel as though the next two movies will be alot better (although I feel some secrets have been 'hinted' at way to early in the movie and I wouldn't even read any books released recently that are set around what happened before into ep. 7, as they just spoil everything, especially the mystery that has been created around Snoke), Id prefer to wait till maybe ep. 8 or 9 to learn some of the stuff that was revealed)

Sort of spoiler (but not really)... and IDT everyone will die

I have a few issues with the plot which I will not elaborate on because they would reveal to much
