  1. I like the floor texture for the Enclave, but I think it has too much blue in the shadows of it. In the rest of the image, you can see the shadows from the area geometry are brown, but the sand has a blue-ish shadow. I think a quick tweak could fix this issue and help it work tonally with the rest of the scene.

Additionally, I agree with Malkior that I think the clone tool could be used to remove the dog tracks in the sand. I agree they are distracting in the still image, but since we can't see how they look in-game, it could be fine. I can't discern them in the sand very far away from the player, so it might be okay. Without seeing it in-game, it's hard to judge. I think it would at least be worth a try to remove them, and if they look worse, you can always bring back the original texture.

It probably seems like we are nitpicking here, and I'm sorry for that. Because really you're like 98% of the way there, and everything looks fantastic except for about 2% that look alright. It really looks a lot like ANH where Luke looks out at the binary sunset, and you've capture that tone quite well.

Nah, no problem. I think it's important that we also talk about the things that could be improved. As (hobby-) artists we are all in the same boat, trying to get better every time. (BTW, what about the story writer for that certain planet??)

About the sand-shadows: not sure if I can change the shadow color without changing anything else...but good eyes - the scene is indeed modeled after New Hope Sunset ;)

For now there are still Dantooine, Korriban & Taris unfinished, so I have to think of that too.

  2. I find your work on the sand simply excellent!

To nitpick, I am not so fond of the floor pattern at the enclave. It seems a little "messy" to me, reminding me of a desert camo suit...

    Glad you like it!

Funny, since judging it ingame i actually liked that one most from all Tatooine textures.

Mainly because of the high contrast.

The idea is to create sth. similar to the sand in the back:

Perhaps if you used the cloning tool on that particular portion where the dog footprint pattern is the most obvious, you could at least mitigate its impact. You could also "paint" over that area with a masked sand texture underneath as well, but that would be more tedious.

I must admit, im not a big fan of the cloning tool, since you always have artifacts.

And even a little bit of color displacement will  be visible, and more, in a repeating pattern every 4-5 meters in front of your main char, believe me, you dont want that.

  3. Ah. I wasn't trying to criticize your work, personally. I am just pointing out the one tiny flaw others are seeing so you might be able to see and remove it.

I am an artist as well, and I too hate it when people see something I never intended as the key to why it doesn't look as good as I want it to be. Sorry if it seems the cons outweigh the pros; this texture really does look fantastic and has a great deal of definition and color vibrancy.

Don't worry. I'm not made out of paper, so I can take a bit constructive critique ;)

    Back to topic:

You're right, the footsteps on the tex dont look ideal - but as I said - on the other hand, I have to make compromises with that floor texture. Even with hex editing there's no way to assign more than one tex.

  4. In the third screenshot you can very clearly see what look like canine footprints in the lower right. I believe that's what he's referring to.

ah, that one. As you know, the difficulty in Kotor is that you have the same tiny texture which is plastered across the dune sea ~ 100 times.

So no matter what you do, to some extend it will always look a bit repetitive.

I used a more regular dune tex before, but it looked worse, so this was really the best i could find, as it has a lot of detail and hides that aspect pretty well.

Atm i cant do any better, sorry.

  5. Are those dog footprints? They're a little distracting, because it looks like it was really happy, running every which way it could. If they're something else, then they're a little too frequent and regularly spaced, and don't seem like they're naturally occurring for such a wind swept area.

Do you mean the floor tex in the sandpeople enclave?

  6. That thread needed to be done!

For Kotor 1, i'd actually like to see a Yavin 4 revamped version - the mod is good but:

    1. im not sure if its compatible with K1R and BoSSR.

    2. all areas are from vanilla game.

Sithspecter i think has done at least some tweaking to existing K1 areas couple years ago, like adding heavy fog or

assigning totally different textures for the Star Forge,

so in short, id like to see the whole Yavin mod ported into a new (or heavily tweaked) module - with the same content, but different visuals.

  7. The colored shine looks too small to me. It should glow more when compared to the movie sabers. Also, on the last picture the tip of the saber tooks really weird.

The tip is only looking like that because the saber was in motion - its difficult to get the screnshot of only 1 frame - if i find time, i could perhaps

send you guys a test file, since the appearance is also changed by the animation.

    EDIT:

Here it is. (only colors Blue, Red, Yellow, Purple, Green) Just drag & drop into Override:

  8. ...I'm sorry to jump in like that and if my opinion sounds rash, but to me that sounds like you're sure SS himself is a bad storywriter.

No worries. I do not want to suggest anything like that! I like SS work.

The reason why i said that was simply, because i made the experience first hand now, that since i teamed up doing my textures, everything goes much faster and

the best part: it leaps the quality of my own work, since i can give attention now to small details previously not possible.

I think if SS has a good writer in the team, it could boost things in a similar way.

It also wont hurt his general vision since he could give exact instructions how things should be written.

@SS: this is only an idea, so dont  feel forced on anything ;)

  9. Thanks Jorak! I've been writing most of the quests and storylines myself, over a long period with quite a few revisions as well as calling on a few unbiased opinions to critique them. There are a few larger quests, which have been thoroughly written for the most part. I don't play SWtoR, so I'm not quite sure what big decisions you refer to. But I am trying to keep things more streamlined and less complex.

Good eye, N-DReW25, those are in fact spice bricks, ready to be packaged and shipped.

    what i meant is:

its good that you have a clear plan what quests should be in there, but:

my point was that  a (semi)professional writer  could help you a lot with the quality of the writing - to make each quest as interesting and exiting as possible.

So if you have clear ideas how the plot has to be & which npcs should be involved, you just talk to your writer, and he/she fills that with greatly written dialogues and perhaps new even ideas.

That saves you a lot of time and would make even simple "bring & fetch" quests interesting like in amazing games like the Witcher, Mass Effect  or Kotor 2.

So if you like the idea, i could also look around which fanfic writer capture that Star Wars/Kotor feeling best in their stories.

  10. Hey Jorak, I know we're doing TSL right now, but did anyone inform you of when you use the Sith Base textures from Kotor I you also alter the leviathan as a result? Wondering if you were planning on doing a Leviathan set when TSL is done.

Interestingly, things took an interesting turn now.

Currently im working on an Overhaul with Cache71, which overhauls all Planets and most other textures too of Kotor 1.

The prequel movies are an important inspiration ressource and i tried my hardest to get it look right.

Therefore, most likely there wont be an update on the Complete Overhaul series.

  11. Well, I suppose that 2 of the main quests really count as secondary quests, since they are not necessary for Star Map retrieval. I've outlined both of those well so far, with necessary areas planned. As far as smaller quests go (ie Sharina Fizark or A Wookiee Lost), I haven't done much planning at all. Fortunately, those type of quests can be implemented almost anywhere without too much hassle.

First of all, AMAZING work as always!

Speaking of quests, im curious, do you plan to get a good storywriter into the team?

I think that might be helpful if you plan to implement some big quests with many story arcs and twists & turns...

Maybe even some big decisions like in KotfE?

  12. Just paste one of these (depending on your version of Windows) into a text file, edit the game install location as appropriate, save as a .REG file and double click, saying yes to add to the registry. Make sure you keep the double slashes between folders in the Path line.

    For 32bit Windows:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BioWare\SW\KOTOR]
"Path"="F:\\Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic\\K1"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LucasArts\KotOR2]
"Path"="F:\\Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic\\TSL"

    For 64bit Windows:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\BioWare\SW\KOTOR]
"Path"="F:\\Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic\\K1"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\LucasArts\KotOR2]
"Path"="F:\\Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic\\TSL"

    Thanks!

So  for K1 my install path is D:\Spiele\Star Wars® Knights of the Old Republic® COLLECTION

Now do i have to write

    A)   "Path"="D:\\ Star Wars® Knights of the Old Republic® COLLECTION

    or

    B )  "Path"="D:\\Spiele\\Star Wars® Knights of the Old Republic® COLLECTION

Also which version of the registry editor do i have to enter (my Windows is 7 x64)?

  13. I have to re-open this thread since i reinstalled Windows and could only find solutions for steam and Kotor 2.

I have the Kotor Collection and want to setup Kotor Tool for Kotor 1.

What do i have to write into the registry to get it working?

    my install path is:

D:\Spiele\Star Wars® Knights of the Old Republic® COLLECTION

Thanks for any help on that!

  14. Two questions lurking in my head since a while now -

1.would it be possible to learn some of the more powerful feats & force powers through teachers instead when leveling up?

(And of course make them non- accessable through the lvl up screen)?

    2. And would it be possible to increase the damage of the vanilla force powers?

(like giving force wave more dmg, longer stun or force heal "healing over time" effect...

  15. @Kex: Believe me, I tried that already.
It doesnt work. In fact, any conventional texturing leads to splitting the black core into a myriad of planes when moving.

@VP: I think I'll include the black ones for variations sake, the animation "holds" the core planes together and in game. it looks not very great but solid enough.

    Another thing:
Do you know if its possible to change the speed with which the LS are lit? (To get individual effects like the Unstable Arbiter blades from TOR, for example.)

  16. I have to think about a proper solution regarding saber sounds.

In the meantime, I really tried my best to improve the previous shown lightsabers, utilising a black core/colored core that constantly changes its form and blurs from time to time.

(It's my attempt to get around the engine limitation with black particles)

I tried everything to make them look good - and for variety sake - I should include them in my pack, as I run out of ideas. Can you guys give me an honest opinion on them?
