I am new to modding (not someone who creates mods, but more so someone who likes to play with them) outside of the steam workshop. I have a problem where whenever I download a 7z or a rar file my laptop tries to open it through one of the apps on my device like notebook or Microsoft word. When it does this, it is impossible to extract files from the download's archive or find the scripts that I am supposed to run in order to install the mod, etc.

Lets see if we can get this sorted.

First off, if files you are downloading are automatically opening, you can fix that in your web browser by disabling auto-open downloads.

Next you need a tool to actually handle the zipped files. Since you are on windows 11 I would suggest NanaZip - its a continuation of 7zip that works a bit better with modern windows. You can download it from the windows store here, so you dont need to worry about install issues either : https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N8G7TSCL18R?hl=en-us&gl=US

Once you have this tool installed, you can now actually extract files.

To do so RIGHT click on the files you downloaded. From here you will see a new option for NanaZip   https://imgur.com/198mls3

After you download the zipped file, RIGHT click on it, hover over Nanazip and Select "Extract to "foldername\" https://imgur.com/fzX9UoX

That should actually get the files extracted.

Also, it looks like when you click on the files the system is trying to use the wrong program (Word) to open them. You can fix that by opening the start menu and searching "Default apps" then opening "Default apps" in the system settings.

Inside the search box labeled "Enter a file type or link type" search for  .7z then click on the entry. After that select Nanazip as the default program. You can do the same for .rar and .zip files as well so they open in a program that can read them.

Let me know if this was helpful, and if you need anything let me know and I will try to assist.

  2. I really haven't played SWTOR since release. During a recent livestream, a few of my viewers suggested that I try playing it again. I thought it would be fun to do as a livestream thing since I actually have a reliable setup now.

So I wanted to see if anyone was interested in joining us on our adventure.

Questions I have from people who actually play SWTOR.

What class / faction / server should I play?

Anything I need to know/ do?

Do I need to have a subscription to make this viable?

Let me know if you think this is a good idea and if you want to join me. I don't have a time set up yet, so that is something to discuss too.

  3. Hello Everyone, May the 4th be with you!

That's right. It's Star Wars day, and you know what that means... Sales. Right now on Steam you can pick up the entire Star Wars collection at 72% off.

So if you have been waiting to pull the trigger on that purchase, now would be a good time to do so.

Since I don't want the entire post here to be 3 lines long, lets talk about some other happenings in the community. If you missed the last update, you can check it out HERE. And if you usually skim or skip these posts, you might want to stick around to the end of this one. Just sayin' ;)

    Deadlystream 2017 Contest winners

To start off I want to once again congratulate the winners of our 2017 Mod of the Year (Leilukin) and Community Member of the Year (DarthParametric). You both have done amazing work for the community and I don't think we can thank you enough. So once again congratulations from myself and everyone here at Deadlystream.

I know not everyone was happy with how I ran things (myself included) but the winners of the overall awards and the category awards I didn't mention deserve all the praise and accolades we can give them.

Thinking about these winners while this Star Wars Sale was going on gave me an idea. It's an idea I have had for a while but never thought of a good way to implement it... Until now.

    Game Giveaway Contest

I have personally been buying a bunch of random games over the past year or so with the intent of doing a giveaway of some sort. Most of these are Star Wars Titles but I also have several other select popular titles available as well (read this as i'm not giving away just a bunch of shovel-ware). At the end of the month I will be giving away these games to a fair number of people. But to win you need to do something for me first.

To enter the contest all you need to do is write a review of a mod on Deadlystream (It needs to be at least one paragraph, the more detailed the better) and then make a post in this thread linking to the mod.  This way the reviews will be with the actual mod, but I can keep track of who is entering the contest.

You may submit multiple reviews of mods so long as they are of sufficient detail.

If you would like a bonus entry, you can also provide feedback of the M4-78 A history series Sith Holocron and I worked on. Post your review/ feedback (again at least a paragraph but preferably more) in THIS thread.  Post a link back to the thread here to show you are interested in this contest as well

I'm sure there are other things I missed and I reserve the right to edit this post to clarify any rules and/or exceptions.

Also, if you don't want to win anything, I still urge you to post reviews, it helps motivate authors and improves the quality of the website. If you wish to abstain from the contest post reviews and then don't link back to this thread.

I hope to see some great posts and hope that everyone across the site benefits from today.

Thank you very much for watching and have an excellent day!

  4. This thread is here to serve as a hub / discussion thread on the "M4-78: A History" project.

At the time of this post there are six episodes  (5 chapters and an introduction).

You can watch the series in its entirety in this playlist

If you have suggestions, ideas, criticism or feedback, please post them here. While I do read the Youtube comments that come my way Youtube's systems for that sort of thing are difficult.

If you are giving feedback on a specific chapter, please also include the title or chapter number somewhere in your post so I can more easily identify what you are talking about.

  5. Hello everyone, i'm Xuul. Welcome to Deadlystream.

Today marks the release of the latest entry in the “M4-78: A history” documentary series. This time we take a dive into the work that lead to Stoney's version of the Droid World and examine, how this in turn eventually lead into the Enhancement Project we have today. You can catch this latest episode by following the link HERE.

It is, by far, my favorite entry to date and featuring: failed plans, much drama, and of course, history. If you are not familiar with the project go ahead and check it out via this playlist HERE.

You will probably want to clear off some time to view this one, as it comes in at a whopping 31 minutes, but don't worry, all of it is great. Just like last time I want to remind everyone that basically all the work for this documentary is done by Sith Holocron, while I have edited and hosted the videos, he is the mastermind who has done all the research, interviews and million other little things that I can't think of.

If you like the series or just want to contribute to the next entry, you can go to this thread HERE to ask questions for the next episode of the documentary. This next episode will be a ways off yet, as there are many things still in the works for M4-78EP, so things might ending up being a bit different.

In other News (we can't have the entire post be about a project i'm involved with) we did have a winner for Community Member of the Year. This probably should be it's own post, and I feel bad for including it here, but I sort of ended up with the job of running the whole thing last minute and ended up not doing the best job of things. Despite my lackluster job DarthParametric fully deserves the title of Community Member of the Year, for being such a valued member of the community. His continued presence on the forums, providing advice and doling out important information on numerous forums about modeling and other modding aspects. DP is also notable for his generosity in the requests threads, providing a way for the many modding noobs (I include myself in with them) to have some of their (Admittedly sometimes strange) desires into reality. You are a great member of the team here DP, I can't wait to see what you can do through this next year.

As per the norm, I am also going to highlight some mods that I thin are worth checking out.

Today I will suggest you take a look at the replacement loading screens mod by Sith Holocron. These mods replace the low-resolution loading screens with in-game footage that looks so much better. This mod ensures that the "feel" of the loading screen is respected, while updating the look. It feels almost like an official update more than a mod, and even though my load times are very short, I still plan to use this mod myself. You can find the mod divided into parts here: 1, 2, 3,

Another project that I think is worth mentioning has already been involved in some small amount of drama. The project is the Unofficial Patch for KOTOR 1  complied and maintained by the user A Future Pilot, this mod is a collection of several bug fix mods, as well as a few original fixes for the game. I have spoken publicly before about how tedious it is to install the large multitude of bug fixes needed to install (I mean seriously, look at the number of mods found here that are just a tiny bug fix), so I think that this will be a great resource for everyone in the community, and perhaps eventually help bolster the community as it is recommended by outside sources. This project is an example of how things should be done, with clear permissions and great utility. There are still bugs left to quash, so if you want to help out on this project contact A Future Pilot to see if anything can be done.

And finally, in no particular order, Mods that I think look cool:

There is a great Darth Sion skin HERE

A 4K exterior Ebon Hawk HERE

    A weapon Re-balance mod HERE

That's about it for now, if you have any suggestions for future topics, be it interviews, mod highlights or anything else, please let me know.

Thank you for reading. Have an excellent day.

  6. Voting Thread for Community Member of the Year 2017

It's that time again. Time to go out and vote! For the month of March you can now vote for the community member of the year of 2017 as nominated by you. Since this thread is already 4 days late, here is what the thread read last year.

The mods are what make Deadly Stream good, but the members are what make it great. We have so many fantastic members that make up the forum offering advice, criticism, insightful comments, and just plain hilarity. Deadly Stream wouldn't be the same without all the people that spend time here.

Give it some thought, and vote for a community member that has helped you out, been there for you, made you laugh, or maybe created a cool mod.

  7. This is a bit off topic, but a lot of the recommendation are small bug/model fixes. It's great that each of these fixes have been made but it is a pain to have to install each mod separately (take a look at the reddit mod builds to see just how many minor tweaks exist).

If TSLRCM is not the best venue for these then it would be cool if the fixes could get bundled into some sort of TSL unoffical patch or something like that.

  8. Hello everyone, welcome to DeadlyStream. Sorry for once again being late with this post. I think it's safe to say that everyone in our wonderful community loves mods, but what would the mods be without the community members who make, test, and use them?

  9.

Will there be a member of the year 2017 or will that just be skipped?

That will be coming shortly. This post was delayed because of the site maintenance  and I dont want CMoTY to compete with this either.

  12. Hello everybody. Welcome once again to deadlystream.

****There will be no TLJ spoilers in this post****

It is time once again for Mod of the Year. We have had a great turn out once again with a great number of mods nominated again this year. It is always great to see the wonderful community still so active after all these years. The quality, dedication, and passion we have seen this year has been outmatched.

This year I changed up the categories and combined TSL and Kotor mods into one poll. While this might be disappointing to some of you I think the fact that there is less awards up for grabs will make each of them mean a bit more. 2017 has been a wonderful year for KotOR modding, so now let's give credit where it is due, and vote for the Mod of the Year!

This year the categories are as follows:

    Best Added/ Restored  Content Mod
    Best Visual Enhancement Mod
Best Tweaks / Gameplay Enhancement Mod
    Best Bugfix Mods
    Best Upcoming/ WIP Mod

Voting will run until 11:59 PM PST, December 31st.

Good luck everyone, and may the force be with you.

  13. Hello everyone and welcome to Deadlystream.

It is time yet again for Mod of the Year nominations. Sorry about the late post this year, there is still a bit of discussion going on behind the scenes. We are still working out some of the finer details for the categories but don't worry you can still get your nominations in now.

Nominations will run from now until 11:59 PM, December 17th. After that, the voting threads will open!

    Nominating a Mod:
    • Post in this thread
    • If you want to go back and nominate more mods, edit your original post
    • You may nominate as many mods as you like
    • You may nominate mods that have already been nominated
    • You do NOT need to assign a category for nominated mods, the staff will do this
    • Please include a working link to the mods you nominate
    • Mods must have been released or updated between December 1st, 2016 and November 30th, 2017
    • TSLRCM is not eligible for a Mod of the Year award.

So go ahead and get nominating, and as always have an excellent day

  14. I guess it's because it's easier to make fun of EA in general.

It's partially this, but also this game seems to have taken a step to far. Maybe if this was done by a company that hadn't burned all of its goodwill there would be less anger and such.

  15. Heelllloooo... Welcome to deadlystream!

Can Never Play it too many times. Just look at me, I beaten it 56+ times. I love this game. It really close to my heart.

I'll get past dantooine at some point I swear.

  16. The game looks genuinly good and cant wait to start experiencing the lore around there new universe

I didn't ask about the lore, but I think that will be a big factor related to the success of their title. At least as long as the gameplay is solid

  17. Fantastic post as usual, the Belgium gaming commission is looking to get SWEA Battlefront 2 completely banned in Europe.

Also I believe it's the sixth in the series if you include the two portable titles.

Because the naming conventions were already so clear....

  18. Hello everyone, and welcome to Deadlystream

On November 17  EA released the perfectly named fourth installment in the Battlefront Series “Star Wars: Battlefront 2”. The game itself was met with mixed results from critics, and was a considered by many to be an improvement over the series previous title: “Star Wars: Battlefront” (the third title in the series). What many people may not know is that there has been some level of controversy around this title…

Okay, I think everyone knows about the drama by now. But on the off chance that you are out of the loop I will give a quick summary.

    The controversy

The developers of the second Battlefront 2 introduced a Loot Box system into the game where players could spend real money for a chance to win in game prizes. Now this is not uncommon, many games like Overwatch feature lootboxs players can either win via in game tasks or pay for with money, although these games are often offered at a lower cost or are free to play. In BF2 these boxes had items that contained gameplay advantages. A good example of this is the “Assault class” Survivalist Star Card that decreases health regeneration delays up to 40%.

Notice the words “Real money” and “chance” in that last statement? Well that is because, like most loot box systems stuff their boxes full of fairly useless filler items that are low value. Since the items in this game had gameplay effects and were random, it wasn’t just pay to win, but pay for a chance to win. While these rewards are available in game, they were locked behind a long grind and took credits away from the player that most wanted to save to unlock the expensive heroes. While this might not be out of place in a free to play game, you need to keep in mind this was a full price title that retailed for CAN$79.99. This price does not include the various deluxe editions of the game that could cause the price of the base game to reach nearly CAD$100.

This obviously led to much internet drama, including  Fake death threats , Boycotts , and even a big old discussion here on deadlystream.

Eventually people began a campaign targeted at Disney linking Star Wars and gambling. These posts were then picked up by mainstream media organisations and this all lead to the removal of the loot boxes in Battlefront for now. It also lead to several government organisations to begin to look into regulation regarding in game lootboxes. You can read a bit more about that HERE

The whole thing has been discussed to death at this point so I am not going to go into any more detail on what happened.

    My Thoughts

Normally I don’t put my opinion on things like that in these posts, I want to just list the facts and let people make up their minds. But in this case I have to say that I see no reason to buy this game, and I hope that you don’t either. The sheer audacity of EA to nickel and dime their consumers shows a clear disregard for the consumer. Yes, the micro transactions have been removed for now, but it is only likely to be the case until the internet outrage dies down and the Christmas season is over. Anyone who has seen how EA treats its customers shouldn’t really be naïve enough to fall for their blatant ass covering. Before I get to this next part I should mention that these opinions are those of me (Xuul) alone and not the website as a whole.

In my opinion the developers burned any credibility and goodwill a long time ago and anyone still willing to put up with it are the reason they keep doing it, because YOU make them buckets of money. The only way to win is to vote with your wallet and not play.

Still really want to play battlefront? I understand that, I too have great memories battling it out in galactic conquest with my friends and slaughtering rebel scum on the Death Star. But just like the last EA battlefront, the one that was not a lovingly crafted game, but a hollowed out husk of something many people were very passionate about, this game too disappoints. This game is a dead eyed corpse wearing the name Star Wars as a sort of macabre skin suit; that preys on your nostalgia and your fantasies in order to suck the money from your wallet in the same way a predator would suck the marrow from your very bones.

Okay, I’ll admit that was a bit melodramatic. But I still don’t think you should buy the game. Supporting this game, supports more development in this direction and that is something I do not want. If the scummy business model is not enough to convince you not to purchase this game then I should also mention that Battlefront 2 has been plagued with various technical problems.

    A new hope?

So far, all I have done is spread doom and gloom about the latest Star Wars title. Is there any hope at all for those of us who really just want there to be more Battlefront in the world?

    Maybe.

The way I see it there are few avenues you can take at this point.

    1) Wait until 2023

No, I am not talking about a game called 2023, but the year. The real year in the real world. While not a fun solution it is something you are probably planning on doing anyways. Why is this year important? Becuase contracts. That's right. Start checking off days on your calendar because in a few short years EA's exclusive development contract with EA expires. At least in theory. There is still a good chance the mouse renews the relationship with EA and then we can add another decade to that list. So call upon a higher power, sacrifice to the gods and pray that we eventually get developers who care just a little bit more about what we want eventually.

Or sign this petition I guess, but in all honestly no one is breaking a multi-million dollar goldmine of a contract over a petition.

    2) Play Battlefront 2

That's right, you can just play Battlefront 2... wait no not THAT Battlefront 2. You should play the FIRST Battlefront 2. The one that came out before the second Battlefront game.... The second one in the series overall... In all honest, they should fire whoever came this naming scheme.

    Let's try that again.

That's right play the 2005 classic Battlefront 2, the one not made by EA. This game is available now, has 0 micro transactions, is only a fraction of the cost and even has a small but dedicated modding community
In the past I made a few videos on how to set up these mods but they are old, out of date and poorly done. If I have time I will try to remake them so everyone can enjoy the wonderful new features available in the BF2 modding scene. Yes, the graphics are not beautiful, but the game play still holds up and is a blast to play with friends. If enough people are interested we might even be able to get a group together and crush the rebel scum under our collective imperial boots. (or you can play as the terrorist rebels but w/e)

    3) Galaxy in Turmoil.

Way back in the ancient times (2016) a group of Star Wars fans at Frontwire Studios began to show off footage of their WIP fan game “Star Wars Battlefront 3: Galaxy in Turmoil”. It was based off the "99%" finished Battlefront 3 prototype that leaked back in 2016. This was around the same time that other Battlefront 3 was released. Unlike the game that no one really remembers, GIT had many features that many dedicated Battlefront fans were looking forward to. This includes things like ground to space combat maps, and other features from the 99% finished Battlefront 3 that was cancelled to make way for EA & DICE.

Sound too good to be true?

    Correct.

To the surprise of no one who was even vaguely familiar with how the law works, the rights-holders quickly shut the project down. It also begs the question: Xuul, why are you mentioning a project that died? The answer: that the project is only dead from a certain point of view.

While the Star Wars aspect of the game has become one with the force, the Battlefront style game play is still alive and well in the now standalone original IP Galaxy in Turmoil. This is obviously a disappointment to anyone who cares more about the Star Wars than the Battlefront but if you don’t particularly care about that aspect then this may be the game for you. This new Galaxy in Turmoil (GiT) is still in devlopment but from what has been shown so far it looks promising.

In preparation for this news post I got in contact with  Tony Romanelli, President of Frontwire Studios, who was kind enough to answer a few of my questions.

    The interview

Xuul: Thanks for taking the time to chat. I'll start off with the low hanging fruit. Lootboxes and microtransactions. What are your team's plans to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment?

Frontwire: Loot boxes and micro transactions are not our thing at all. Anything Pay2Win is just wrong in my opinion. However players will have the ability to purchase cosmetic items such as outfits and upgrades that don’t provide any sort of upper hand over others. Likewise we have an extensive statistics system in place that rewards players for actually completing objectives and overall teamwork rather than just running around and being a Rambo solo player. We’re also working on a method to provide a way for players to earn in-game credits that can be used to purchase cosmetics in the event they don’t want to spend cash.

X: What aspects from the old Battlefront series are you most excited to emulate? What areas are you planning on diverging from the past?

FW: As you know, our roots are in battlefront. We’re developing game modes that anyone that has played the original battlefront games will be able to recognize and adapt too. While they’re not exact copies of game modes, they’re similar and inspired by battlefront game modes. However as far as breaking away, we want players to have more control of their games both in Singleplayer and Multiplayer. So we’re building an extensive single player campaign and an extensive multiplayer system that allows players to experience the game how they want. We’re harping on team roles in MP. Each class actually serves a purpose and while you can play certain maps with any classes you want, it will be more inclusive and fun if you use some specific classes to handle certain objectives.

X: You mentioned classes. Does your team have any rough idea on the number of classes or anything like that at this stage in the development?

FW:  Totally. Currently we have four classes to chose from. However we plan to add a few more specifically classes specific to certain game modes and maps. For example, we have a certain game mode that allows players to be able to play a specialty class after the team achieves certain objectives. However how that class is assigned is via a round robin system based on the specific team members that helped to accomplish said special objective. So if you don’t help out with the side objective to unlock the specialty class, then you don’t get out into the pool to potentially get the class offered to you.

X: Sounds fair to me. Mentioning multiplayer. Does your team have a plan for any dedicated multiplayer servers or anything like that?

FW: Totally. We are going to be hosting 15 official dedicated servers for the community to play on located around the USA and Europe. Players are also free to host their own dedicated servers using our dedicated server client for up to 64 players. Likewise they can host smaller matches without a dedicated server locally on their PC via the game itself, however those are restricted to 16 players for performance reasons. We actually just signed a deal with one of Europe’s largest server hosting companies to provide discount servers to our community.

X: That sounds awesome. More than I expected honestly.

FW:  Haha thanks. Our ultimate goal is to provide the community with as much free content as possible to show people you can make a great game without bleeding the community by charging $60 and then requiring another $40 worth of DLC to make it playable.

X: I wish you and the rest of the team all the best with it. Thanks for taking the time to talk.**

** During this talk I did ask about the demo version that has been delayed but the developers chose not to comment on any timetable.

    Final thoughts

Overall whatever path you take I wish you luck. Now I want to pass the question off to you. What are you going to do in regards to this Battlefront Turmoil? Will you take one of my suggestions or do you have a better idea? I would love to hear about it in the comments below. Until next time...

I have been Xuul and I hope that you have an excellent day!

  19.  I'm going to give EA the benefit of the doubt,

Yeah. I mean going off their history, we really should be giving EA some slack....

I really hope they fix it. But my guess is they are just waiting until after Xmas sales to come through and then will return the gambleboxes back with some slight tweaks
