This mod is totally broken

I am sorry to tell you this but the mod is terribily bugged. I've wasted about 3-4h so far to re-load and go about the bugs but I think a clean reinstall will be a wiser option...

 

First I played till Nar Shadaa where I got the Red Eclipse bug. It's kinda unprofessional to upload a gamebreaking bug and THEN provide a fix that fixes the bug but only if you have a (much) earlier save. What's worse is that people that use the mod for the first time have no idea of this bug since the fix is on a separate file.

 

I restarted... the maidens on Telos disappeared. Luckily this time I had a backup save at the beginning of Telos (about 1h wasted...) but during the fight my characters froze and did not join my party after the 3rd fight was over. I was able to board the Ebon Hawk and proceed to the next planet, but both Bao-Dur and Kreia cannot be interacted with.

 

I know you've put a lot of effort in this and I really appreciate it. But as a fellow modder I want to tell you that releasing such a buggy work is unacceptable. At least warn people that it is unstable/beta... and always include the GAMEBREAKING bug fixes in the main release.

1) Yeah. Although you can circumvent it with cheats, 0H0M progress lost. There is no NEED to replay it, the fix just prevents from having it happen in the first place.

 

2) Other mods? 1.5 had this, 1.6(a) shouldn't.

 

3) Congrats on finding a gamebreaking issue, but that's a vanilla TSL bug, not something we created. Don't break the rules when fighting the handmaidens on the training mat. Really!

 

To conclude; TSLRCM 1.6A is less buggy and gamebreaking than vanilla TSL 1.0b. That's fact, not some wil claim...

Well you must realize my frustration ;). I remember playing Vanilla several years ago without any bugs or glitches, but they again it was on XP single core machine with old (proper) drivers and stuff. It took me more then half an hour to actually run it on my new machine. Could be just my bad luck... but the Eclipse fix should be definitely integrated with the main body on the most popular sites or at least there should an annotation+link(I got it from knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com)

 

Actually I would really appreciate a mod that keeps older autosaves/quicksaves. Do you have any idea if there is such in existence?

 

PS: I got the Improved AI combined with Beancounter's Hardcore mod, Achiles' less annoying Workbench mod and that's it. Shouldn't cause any issues... no file conflicts.

TSLRCM 1.6a includes the Nar Shaddaa fix--last week I ran through Nar Shaddaa and didn't have any problems whatsoever...as HH said, the problems you are having are not related to the TSLRCM being issues with the game itself as well as mod conflicts

Well, agreed on that, but we don't really run KOTORFiles, so there is not much we can do there. I suppose we could ask them to replace both files with the new 1.6a (stroking out the old 2 files).

 

I wouldn't know of such a mod.

 

"No file conflicts". You'd be surprised how often people say that and then they turn out to be... file conflicts. TSLCRM modifies A LOT of files, but they are mainly in *.mod files. So if then another is placed in override it seems like there is no conflict, but our file is overwritten. And sometimes, that can lead to nasty bugs...

HH I think the mods azmodael is referring can be found on either lucasfiles.com or starwarsknights.com, can't recall which mod is on which site--I have them at home but haven't yet used them.

 

 

Your point about FileFront possibly not having the latest files is right on--if they weren't submitted Shem and the guys may not know about version 1.6a

Having played "vanilla" on both single and multi-core XP machines, I can vouch that neither K1 or TSL behaves predictably on a multi-core. I've actually noticed *less* issues with TLSRCM. Onderon, for example, behaves much, much better. I still have to drop the graphics quality way down, but there are CTDs that I got before that I do not get now.

 

One think that I have discovered, and this may be unique to me:

 

Save before you try and take HK-47 into the Shyrak caves. I got crash-on-enter time after time until I switched him for Handmaiden. No issues then.

e-varmint you could use Task Manager to set your processor affinity and assign KOTOR to one core--I wouldn't do that on a dual core box but definitely would on a quad core rig. I'm running TSL on an AMD x2 4600 with a BFG 7800GTS AGP--I do use Riva Tuner to OC the card but I still run games in 1024X768 @ 75hz, KOTOR I is the only game I have video problems with but those are the video issues inherent in the game

It might not be the mod, but my game is seriously messed up. I recently reinstalled the game and then downloaded patches 1.0a and 1.0b (installing 1.0a before installing 1.0b). I then installed TSLRCM v1.7 and then the unofficial fix for v1.7. This is the result. It started already at the screen where you pick a Jedi Class, there were no pictures there, only the gray background and black artifacts that flickered. I have a Pentium 4 2,4 Ghz computer with 1 Gb RAM and Radeon X1950. This computer is older than the game, but it worked fine when I played it a couple of years ago.

Patch 1b contains everything from 1a so you shouldn't need to install both

Yeah, your specs are fine so it's not your box--again, I'm wondering if you have a mod conflict because whenever I've had that issue that's been the case

While that is true for the US version, non-US need 1.0a and 1.0b in order. Don't ask me why, that's how the patches work.

 

As for the issue, I have seen it before but no idea how it was fixed these instances. Updating your graphic drivers seem like the best bet.

I don't have any other mods installed. I have only installed the things I wrote about in my first post. I'm going to start uninstalling/reinstalling things to see were the problem lies. I have the original discs, so if there is something wrong with the game itself, I can simply uninstall and reinstall it and hope for the best (TSL: A New Hope ;)). If it is the mods causing trouble, then I might also uninstall the game, since RCM was my prime reason for installing TSL again (more a fan of Kotor 1). Thanks for replying anyway.

 

Update: I've now reinstalled it without anything other than the game and it's the game that's causing the problem. I'll try to update my graphics drivers and do some other stuff from the Troubleshooting Guide, but if I can't fix it, I could always just install Kotor 1 again.

 

ATI's support wants to know if I have Windows XP 32 Bit or 64 Bit and so do I. How do I see if I have 32 Bit or 64 Bit? I tried right-clicking on This Computer, but the most it said (under "General") was that I had Windows XP, but not which version.

This really shouldn't make a difference--even though the 64-bit version of XP is based on Server 2003, the game will be installed as the 32-bit program it is. When I was running the XP x64 I had no problems playing any games.

 

The only difference will be what driver you install for the card and that does make a difference based on the OS you're running

If it doesn't say anything about a 64-bit version then you're running 32-bit--if you were running x64 it would say so

I have updated my card to Catalyst Control Center v.10.2. now and tried reinstalling the game with the updated drivers, but this time I don't even get to start it, it's just "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords encountered a problem and needed to be shut down". When the game scanned my hardware I got the following report, which contradicts the info that Catalyst Control Center gave me (Yeah, most of the info on Catalyst Control Center is in Swedish, but you can still understand where it contradicts Kotors report).

 

I'm thinking of getting a new copy of TSL, because I don't think it's my graphics card or the updated drivers that is the problem. I think the discs are corrupted, although they look fine to me (no scratches or anything else visible that could explain this). Also, I scouted around the net and found other people who had problems with TSL who also used Radeon X1950 Pro, but they only had small problems, like this one complaining about low resolution in the game: http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showtopic=51378&mode=threaded. If they can get Kotor 2 to run with Radeon X1950 Pro, then so should I.

I don't know much about upgrading drivers (or how to fiddle with Catalyst Control Center, wouldn't know what to change), I just picked the Full Software Suite (Option 1) from this page, http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.13&lang=English. Should I delete that 75.6 Mb package and go for one of the Individual Downloads (Option 2)?

 

I just bought Kotor 1 from Steam to see if that game would work from Steam (to rule out or confirm that my discs are corrupted), but it's the same thing there. It says that I don't have the versions of software required, although that is ridiculous, since I have played it on this computer before

 

I've read the linked topic, but I don't know if that will help. Kotor 1 has simply decided (both retail and Steam version) that my graphics drivers and OpenGL version are to old to run this game.

 

Edit: Thanks a lot, tpiom! That thread you linked solved all of my problems. It was Catalyst Control Center who was the villain behind it all. I uninstalled it and installed Radeon Omega Driver v4.8.442 instead. Radeon Omega >>>> Catalyst Control Freak. Now I can run Kotor 1 again (and probably Kotor 2 as well, since they had the same problem).

 

Even when things are at their darkest, the Light Side (games that work without trouble) may prevail!
