Guest Gaminglord28 Posted June 28, 2011 Is Galaxies going the price we have to pay for TOR? Though The Old Republic looks great, what happens to all the long hours that went into Galaxies, not to mentiion the money! TOR had better be one heck of a game... Gruble.....Grumble.....Grumble............ What do you guys think? Is it going to be worth it?

Guest hkmandalore47 Posted June 29, 2011 TOR does look really cool. i am going to miss galaxies. HOWEVER, you can play the pre-CU (pre-Combat Upgrade) version of SWG for free by using SWGEmu. since its my first time playing the pre-CU version, i have to say its very different from the current version of SWG that we know. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by CU... is that when they changed the way leveling works a few years back? That's actually when I stopped playing I played galaxies for a while and really really loved it. It's great because you can play with people or you can choose not to; also it was just a really personal experience, i.e. I always liked to trick out my house. But I'm not going to play TOR just because I just don't have enough time or money. But what's this SWGEmu you mention?

I've heard of SWGEmu before... can we play it even after SWG goes offline? And what is so different about it compared to normal SWG?
Guest hkmandalore47 Posted June 29, 2011 pre-CU is before they had all the professions like bounty hunter, commando, smuggler. they used to be marksman, brawler, etc. and had a completely different expertise system and didn't really have a leveling system. i.e. no level 1 - 90. anyone can play SWGEmu for free. again, SWGEmu is just basically the old way SWG used to be. to register for SWGEmu: http://www.swgemu.com/registration/ and a guide to installation and everything, i recomend reading this: http://www.swgemu.com/forums/content.php?r=150-Install-SWGEmu

Guest hkmandalore47 Posted June 29, 2011 yea Dak, you'll still be able to play it. its not involved with SOE so you can play it for free and whenever you want, because unlike the current SWG, its not going down.

I may try to set it up tonight! I preferred pre-cu mainly because (eh, I can't even remember the planet now) the planet when you get together a lot with hunting parties. The thing was that I as a low-level could hunt high-level enemies with stronger friends helping me and I could get just as much XP as the stronger characters would get, causing me to level fast. After the cu change they "fixed" the leveling which made this not work. But anyway looking forward to playing

Can you please help me? I was using a downloaded copy of Galaxies before so I cannot do SWDEmu... Does what disc you get matter or do they all do the same thing for the emulator? Is there a way to use the downloaded copy at all? Btw I made an account today and have to say it looks awesome!

Guest Bob Ta'aar Posted July 1, 2011 SWGEmu works with cracked versions of the game too, it's just not legal and you might get banned from the server if they find out. Having read a lot of different stuff about SWG, positive and negative, it's just too big to try out, especially as the Emu-server is so lowly populated (what makes an MMO pretty lame, IMO). And honestly, an MMO might last way longer than a traditional game (unless it's as great as KotOR and thus will last forever ), they gotta go sometime too. Subscriber-numbers of SWG went down constantly the last couple of years, so it only makes sense to me, to sooner or later shut the servers down. And a date around the release of SWTOR seems the most logical choice to me. Of course it's one of the sad attributes of MMOs, that you can't dig them out again after 10 years and say: aaaah, those were the times ... 'Cause the servers will be gone. But I for one find the Old Republic setting with a huuuuge story to explore a much more inviting approach to an Star Wars MMO, than the sandbox-approach of SWG whit so few quests (or so I heared). It probably makes SWTOR also more appealing for people who prefer playing alone. One of the things that bugged me most about SWG was actually that a lot of it was kind of not-canon, 'cause it didn't really make sense (like having hundreds of Jedi running around during the haydays of the Empire). I'm just a canon-EU lover and I'm totally excited about all the new content we'll be getting with TOR, so I'm totally ok with the end of SWG.

Guest Fury of Revan Posted August 7, 2011 I use to play SWG and it is sad to see it go, but I think it would be better if LucasArts kept SWG and SWTOR.
