Morby 10 Posted August 15, 2010 After installing the mod I almost always crash when loading the game. The new title box with Configure, Update, etc. with the new artwork loads but when clicking Game it will almost always come up with "has stopped working." The program has loaded on: The 9th attempt, the 8th attempt, 15th attempt, and the 21st attempt; each time I have sat down to play and has not crashed once the game has loaded (Although I haven't gotten too far into the game to see if there are crashes since the pain it is to actually get the game to load.) I'm running Vista 32-bit, but I don't think this the cause since before installing the mod the game opened and played fine after a small bit of work. I have no other mods installed, and I'd be appreciative if someone knows how to fix this.

Hassat Hunter 571 Posted August 17, 2010 You've tried all the Vista tricks, right (like the mss32.dll file etc.)?
Morby 10 Posted August 18, 2010 Yes as said I did the necessary fixes to make the game run properly, the problem has only occurred since installing the mod.
Guest x9188 Posted August 18, 2010 have you tried running the game using swkotor2.exe from the games directory instead of using the launcher
Guest staticjoe66 Posted August 18, 2010 Have you tried running the game in XP compability mode? I'm sure you have but since you didn't specifically state you had tried that option I wanted to throw it out there Yes as said I did the necessary fixes to make the game run properly, the problem has only occurred since installing the mod. Guest staticjoe66 Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) I figured you had as that's one of the first tricks to try on Vista and Winblows 7 Here is a link I found to FileFront with Vista help--I dunno if these threads will help in your particular case but the FF forums are a pretty good resource for game issues: KoTOR 2 on Vista http://forums.filefront.com/sw-kotor2-problems-errors-help/315082-kotor-2-vista-fix-worked-me.html http://forums.filefront.com/sw-kotor2-problems-errors-help/388890-please-help-vista-gone-bad.html http://forums.filefront.com/sw-kotor2-problems-errors-help/344483-kotor-2-vista-secondary-thread.html http://forums.filefront.com/sw-kotor2-problems-errors-help/345853-kotor-2-vista.html I hadn't thought of that, just tried it but no luck Yes. Guest DragonEmperor Posted August 19, 2010 Kotor 2 is really fickle with Vista and Windows 7 for sure. I barely got my copy working correctly. I would go with joe's suggestions, since forums are probably your best bet.
Morby 10 Posted August 19, 2010 I've looked at the forums, they all seem to just say the same thing in different ways.. I don't actually think it is Vista's fault (Shocking and rare), because it was working before installing the mod.. Should I try un-installing the mod and then re-installing it? (Do I just delete the override folder to do that?) Guest staticjoe66 Posted August 19, 2010 Morby I have no experience playing KOTOR I or II on either Vista or W7 as my gaming box runs 32-bit XP Pro SP3 so unfortunately I'm not going to be of much help to you I've looked at the forums, they all seem to just say the same thing in different ways.. Guest DH-010 Posted August 21, 2010 How did you install the game? Installing the game in compatibility mode instead of opening it in this mode can also make a difference. You might try that... - First deinstall the game - Insert CD1 - If it comes up, close the autorun window - Before installing again, find the setup.exe file on the disc - Set it to XP compatibility mode like you would the normal KOTOR.exe - Install the game from this setup.exe - You might still need to replace the mss32.dll afterwards
Guest DragonEmperor Posted August 21, 2010 Yep, I agree with DH-010 on that.
Guest Lightcrest Posted August 28, 2010 I'm having the same problem. Game works until I install the mod. I tried reinstalling in compatibility mode, and I tried a different MSS32.dll. I'd really love to play this mod, since I've been waiting for years to try KOTOR2 as it was meant to be played. Any ideas?
catagurin 11 Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) Try this: (Works for me!!! WIN7) Open the 1st CD before installing. Right Click Setup.exe Click on Properties And then choose Compatibility Tab Set it - Run in compatibility Mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2 - and Run It As The Administrator Install the game normally! After the installing, it will ask you if you would like to place a shortcut on Desktop! Click Yes! Then download from FileFront the Vista Fix patch - replace the mss32.dll Then do the same trick as you did to the setup.exe to the swkotor2.exe and the Desktop Shortcut!!! Install TSLRCM 1.6a. Run the Desktop Shortcut and Enjoy! Hope it Helps:) Good Luck! Edited September 9, 2010 by catagurin
