Guest milestails Posted May 23, 2011 Although I probably won't be playing TOR, I did enjoy "Hope" and Deceived" very much. Which one did you like better? I thought "Hope's" Republic troopers looked too much like Clone Troopers. Bioware could have been much more imaginative. I did like Satele Shan's introduction and her fights against the Sith and Darth Malgus. Lightsaber combat has definitely evolved since the days of Obi-wan and Vader dueling on the Death Star. I loved how the spaceship crashed through the Jedi Temple in "Deceived." Additionally, it was really cool how hundreds of lightsabers ignited behind Darth Malgus before his confrontation with Ven Zallow and the Jedi. Coruscant looks too similar to the movie timeline, however. Again, Bioware could have been more imaginative. Overall, two well-made trailers! What I can't understand is why people are turned off or miffed about what the Republic Troopers look like..what should they look like? I think they look different enough.. Whats worse is people saying that one guy looks like Jango Fett..what? just because he has olive skin?? He looks nothing like Jango Fett. The only thing I had to say about it was the Jedi chick stopping a lightsaber with her hand...now THAT is ridiculous! All of a sudden a lightsaber is just a blunt object that "glows"...wtf??! But yeah, anyway, that Satele Shan chick is HOT.
Guest shinsetsuna Posted May 23, 2011 Although I probably won't be playing TOR, I did enjoy "Hope" and Deceived" very much. Which one did you like better? Hope. I like it when they pull some of the attention away from the overly flamboyant lightsaber fights that Star Wars has recently been favoring (Episodes II and III in particular), focusing too much on making things look impressive while sometimes outright ignoring, for lack of a better word, the "realism" (I have to admit Im kinda nit-picky in that sense, though). The way they closed off Hope was also more to my liking than the way they did with Decieved (Where they employed a kinda overused style IMO) I have to say, though, I wouldve prefered to see the bounty hunter on Hope rather than Darth Malgus again. And I have to agree with you. The lightsabers switching on behind Darth Malgus was indeed quite an impressive scene About the Republic Troopers looking like Clone Troopers, maybe that has always been the standard uniform for soldiers of the Old Republic. You have to remember that Clone Troopers were intended to be a part of the Republic when they were commisioned. Even though its kind of a techinality, Star Wars fans are suckers for the Clone trooper look. And if I was a part of making this game, and using this technicality allowed me to include the excellent selling point of a Clone Trooper look, Id do it in a heartbeat PS: About stopping a lightsaber with your hand, I always assumed that to be a more concentrated use of Force Absorb or Energy Resistance. So there kinda is precedent for it to happen. And even if there werent, LucasArts would just include with SW:TOL a new force power called "Force Lightsaber Stoppage" or something like that
Silverius 0 Posted May 25, 2011 I like how Hope depicts the badass trooper who bumrushes his way through a bunch of Sith Warriors to tackle on the Sith Lord, and when the Sith Lord finally manages to subdue him with a surge of Force Lightning, what does the trooper do? he pulls a knife on the Lord and attacks anyways
Guest We are called Legion... Posted May 28, 2011 Regardless of what you may think about The Old Republic, you cannot denny that these two trailers are absolutely spectacular! Once again, Bioware has given us CGI trailers that defy expectations. Hope is without a doubt my favorite of the two trailers. The soldiers were badass, (which was what the trailer was supposed to be showing off anyway) and the lightsaber fight was amazing! For me, the Hope trailer is everything epic about Star Wars compressed into 5 minutes of CGI awesomeness! I do agree that the Troopers look a lot like Clone Troopers. Personally, there is a lot about the game that seems way too similar to the movies, but I guess that it's not that big a deal. Also, as someone pointed out in the comments for one of the videos, these two videos show the differences between the Republic and Sith combat doctrines. In Decieved, the Sith lured all of the masters and any jedi that would actually be a threat away from the temple with their "peace treaty", leaving only padawans, red-shirt security guards, and a handful of jedi knights to defend the temple. Whereas in Hope, the Republic charges headfirst into battle against the worst the Sith have to throw at them.
