CosmicSage 1 Posted January 25, 2018 Hey, long time fan here and of the game. Recently, picked up a new laptop running a nvidia 940mx geforce. I've been searching all over to figure out how to enable this graphics card to properly run the game independently. So far I have tried every method out there, including .bik intro movie removals, compatability modes and settings, nvidia graphical settings, but anytime i try to run kotor1 with the nvidia gpu it crashes right after the logo. I can however get the game running with all effects up and going with the intel integrated 620 gpu. however it is a slight bit laggy around smoke and environmental effects, like things blowing up. This is why I am trying to locate a proper fix on running the nvidia gpu. currently, i have heavily modded build. I've learned to use tslpatcher and .jrl mergers to maintain compatibility with the restored content, bug fixes, texture models and such. Having modded Kotor a good few times through out the years. I am running the GOG version, 1080p cutscenes and widescreen fix. and I can get all of this to work with the integrated gpu but it fails to load the main menu if running the nvidia gpu and crashes. Any help or ideas would be really appreciated. Let me know if theres anything missing above to narrow this down. 1) During the game, when did the problem begin to occur? After intro movies crashing right before the main menu 2) Did you install the latest version of the mod? (1.2) 1.2 k1restored among others are indeed the latest versions including bug fixs - does not affect gameplay through integrated Intel GPU 3) What version of the game do you have? (Steam, GOG, 4CD, KotOR Collection?) What region is the game designed for if it's the 4 CD version? GOG 5) Did you install this over the previous version(s), or did you perform a fresh installation as required by the K1R's read-me file? Yes 6) What other mods have you installed? Please give an accurate list and provide links to each of these mods - even if they are found on this site. (We don't actually know them all!.) at the bottom 7) Can you be more specific about the error? At what point did it happen? Changing from integrated GPU to dedicated nvidia GPU causes k1 to not work. 8) Have you tried re-downloading/re-installing the mod? No, as mods are not affecting gameplay through integrated GPU 9) Have you tried using a different save game? game runs fine with integrated gpu 10) Have you tried starting a new game? yes 11) What Operating System do you use? (List Virtual Machines as well if you are using them.) Windows 10 12) IF USING THE GOG OR 4CD VERSION: Can you confirm that you see the K1R Launcher when you launch the game? No launcher comes up. Using EXE app to launch game causes k1 to start

Guest Qui-Gon Glenn Posted January 26, 2018 Have you edited your swkotor.ini to include the line "Disable Vertex Buffers = 1"? The widescreen fix can be problematic. I gave up on it, but YMMV.
CosmicSage 1 Posted January 26, 2018 Qui-Gon, yes I've managed to get 1080p to run perfectly. AFAIK, best method though is flawless widescreen 32bit. However, i modified the EXE with a hex editor at the correct values, followed by modified GUI menus 1080p (k1HRM 1.0). For cutscenes, I used a BIK program to bring movies upto 1080p with additional edits to the exe hex code
Sith Holocron 2,480 Posted January 26, 2018 Moving to K1R section.
CosmicSage 1 Posted January 26, 2018 Not entirely sure this is a k1R bug though. This seems to me to be related openGL and nvidia swapping properly into the menu from the .bik intro movies
CosmicSage 1 Posted January 26, 2018 Solved: Indeed, it was the OpenGL.dll had failed to recognize the proper pathways to enable the gpu to load the game. I was using Fen's reshade opengl.dll with the correct pathways but it looks like that dll was defunct for my system. Replacing in with GLOverride opengl.dll and config.ini corrected the issue completely
Guest Qui-Gon Glenn Posted January 26, 2018 Cheers, the best solution is usually the one you figure out yourself!
CosmicSage 1 Posted January 27, 2018 Well Kotor is running, but figuring out how to get Reshade to run with Nvidia GFX through openGL is the issue. It looks like a back buffer issue of some sort is cause OpenGL to fail the injection process for Reshade yet I can easily run Reshade through this all on the Intel620 integrated processor
