Lip's not moving during conversations

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, I ended up messing up on some modding installations and long story short, I had to reinstall TSLRCM and shuffle everything around to just get the game working again. The only problem is that now none of the character's lips move during conversations and dialogues. Would anyone be able to help me figure out how to fix this and find/tinker with the right animation? I have very limited experience with mods but have been learning by necessity since this last run-through hit the fan. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers!!

long story short

Help yourself out and make it a long story. ;P

Do you have any other mods installed?

How many conversations did you see this glitch happen on?

It could be one or 2 conversations (dlg files) affected or it could be a crap load of .lip files messed up.

Basically, this would not be a quick fix to tinker/find the right animation, since each dlg has several .lip files that, you guessed it, move their lips during each line.

You are probably best off uninstalling and removing everything you can, and then re-installing, which may sound foolish since you already tried that, but it is the best solution. Double check yourself to make sure you uninstalled everything.

Okay here goes:

I encountered a bug in the Telos Academy where there was only the one handmaiden and you couldn't leave with the Ebon Hawk, but luckily I had a save from before entering the academy itself. I read online that it was likely because I had another mod messing with the appearance.2da file that TSLRCM uses, so I deleted said mod. I then realized that I didn't have the original appearance.2da that I needed for TSLRCM 1.8.3, and that I would need to re-install it.

I downloaded the newest version - 1.8.5 - but like an idiot, I forgot I needed to delete 1.8.3 first (really new to this). By the time that I had downloaded 1.8.5, the executable uninstall feature had been changed and I manually tried deleting 1.8.3 by cross-checking all of the files that were still sitting around against 1.8.5. I moved all the necessary data and exe files to a new folder where I had just the RCM to try and isolate the problems, but when I ran the game again it had switched my player character to Kreia in addition to the regular NPC Kreia because I had been using a mod that added the 5th playable head from KotOR 1 as an option. I then reinstalled what other mods I could that had the TSL patcher to work with, like the complete Jedi council mod, the Coruscant expansion, the Hak Pad (still haven't tried that one in-game) and left it at that with the override folder full of all kinds of gunk that I believe, but cannot confirm is RCM 1.8.5 + TSL patcher works mentioned before. The lips bug occurred with all conversations within the Telos Academy (Atris, Handmaidens, Party Members...) and then all of the scenes taking place on the Ebon Hawk directly after you leave the academy. I used the KSE to alter my file to allow me to be a male humanoid pc again instead of Kreia, but I could not find my original body among the options to allow me to equip gear and change the look, but those were the only changes I made with the editor.

To summarize, I screwed up royally.

Not sure if this could be the problem, but there are two folders titled lips: One is in my TSL folder with everything else, and I believe is part of the RCM. A second folder is sitting on my desktop, and I believe I set it there to differentiate from some override things I was clearing out. The second folder has considerably more files in it, but in both cases, none of the files are .lip files, but rather loc.mod files? I'm not familiar with that. There is the second 'lips' folder sitting about next to a backup of an older override folder and a copy of the appearance.2da file that I will need from now on. other than that, I have a separate folder that has some mods I had originally installed, most with the TLC patcher. Then there is the Kotor 2 folder with all the goodies and current setup. Sorry for the ambiguity, and I'm probably missing something obvious. I appreciate the patience and help.

Also, how would I go about uninstalling everything and getting back to the base game to try again? I don't have the game on Steam or the original disks accessible... How would I know what to get rid of and what to keep to get back to square 1?

Not .. etc

Oh man, yeah. That's a lot of messed up.

Thanks for giving all the details that helps.

Okay, the second folder is probably your original that somehow got lost. Loc.mod files are zipped version of lip files, sorta. So those are exactly what you want. If you don't have the disk or steam, then, unless I am mistaken, you'll have to do this by hand removing and adding the appropriate files.

Let's focus on fixing or attempting to fix the Lips issues, then we'll move on to whatever comes next. So make a copy of lips folder found on your desktop (the bigger one) and make a copy of the other (just in case) and replace the smaller with the larger.

Additionally, if you wouldn't mind let me know the number of files inside the larger lips folder. Then I can double check it with my game to see if you even have the right folder.

Also, we have a discord, which might make it a bit easier to help you out.> https://discordapp.com/channels/259507540503691267/259507540503691267

I have to think this is the easiest solution, and the one you'll also like the least...

Move your saves to a safe spot, uninstall the game, reinstall very carefully the game and all of the mods you know are compatible with TSLRCM, starting with that mod first.

Follow instructions. Read READme files. Make sure your game folder is not locked as Read-only.

Happy gaming!

I would agree with this if it were an option, but he noted that he is unable to re-install the game.

Alrighty, downloaded the discord app for future reference and double checked the number of files in the larger lips folder, which currently sits at 82. Backed up both of the lips folders and I'm about to replace the smaller one with the larger to see if that helps.

Yeah, I would 100% do this if I could, so I appreciate the advice. It looks like I really screwed up and at this point, I'm in damage control mode rather than just wiping the slate clean which is what I would prefer to do. If all else fails I might end up storing my saves and deleting everything else, paying another $10 to get it off of steam and then trying again.

Update: Switched the folders and that seems to have done the trick! I'm going to triple check and make sure that the other mods I have are compatible with RCM, and the next bit on the agenda is to figure out how to get my original pc body back using the KSE.

Glad to know it worked! Well done.

Now, you might want to begin a new character, because installing the newer version of TSLRCM after you've played the game will cause all kind of issues.

An example would be some key plot script that triggers differently with TSLRCM and was updated in their newest version, therefore, the game could get stuck at some important plot moment. Not to mention the game data relies on saved data to update the modules in a strange way, meaning that if you've gone to the area with TSLRCM 1.8.3 and then replaced TSLRCM1.8.3 with TSLRCM 1.8.5, the game will still remember the TSLRCM 1.8.3 version of the module (area).

Also, there's a thread under the TSLRCM section of the forums that lists many compatible mods and some advice on how to tweak certain mods to be compatible.
