wvsnl 3 Posted April 9, 2012 Hi everybody, well my PC is definitely not doing so well. Everytime when I am playing video games on it, it will play normal and then it will lag for a short period and then play as normal again. And this pattern keeps repeating itself. With lag I mean lower FPS. It doens't matter which video game I play or how low the settings are it will happen everytime. It has now even happened to Kotor, so it has crossed the line so to speak Anyway I was looking to get some advice from you guys. My pc is 6 years old so the years are beginning to count. I think the problems lies with the graphics card which is now almost 4 years old, anyways here are my specs: Computer ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Manufacturer: FUJITSU SIEMENS - Computer Model: P5GD1-FM - Computer Name: WOUTER-F60532A1 - System Type: x86 (32-bit) system Motherboard ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Manufacturer: Fujitsu Siemens - Model: P5GD1-FM - BIOS Manufacturer: American Megatrends Inc. - BIOS Model: BIOS Date: 01/10/05 18:01:32 Ver: 08.00.10, version 1004.001 - Connections: PCIEX_16 (In use), PCI_1 (Free), PCI_2 (In use), PCI_3 (Free) - Ports: USB1 (USB), USB2 (USB), USB3 (USB), USB4 (USB), USB5 (USB), USB6 (USB), USB7 (USB), USB8 (USB), COM 1 (Serial), Audio Mic In (Audio), Audio Line In (Audio), Audio Line Out1 (Audio), Audio Line Out2 (Audio), Audio Line Out3 (Audio), Audio Line Out4 (Audio), SPDIF_OUT1 (Audio), LAN (Network), FireWire 1 (FireWire), FireWire 2 (FireWire), SB_IDE (None), SB_SATA1 (None), SB_SATA2 (None), SB_SATA3 (None), SB_SATA4 (None), CD (Audio), FP_AUDIO (Audio), FLOPPY (None), CHA_FAN (None), CPU_FAN (None) Processor ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Model: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.20GHz (Dual Core) - Clock Speed: 3192 MHz - Socket & Cache(s): Socket 775 Memory ¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Size: 1.535 MB RAM - Type(s): 512 MB RAM (DDR-333 PC-2700 166 MHz, DIMM), 256 MB RAM (DDR-333 PC-2700 166 MHz, DIMM), 512 MB RAM (DDR-333 PC-2700 166 MHz, DIMM), 256 MB RAM (DDR-333 PC-2700 166 MHz, DIMM) Harddisk ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - File Format(s): NTFS (C:) - Size: 149,04 GB (149,04 GB (C:) ) - Free Space: 23,47 GB (23,47 GB (C:) ) Drives ¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Type(s): A: 3,5-inch diskettestation, C: Lokale vaste schijf, D: CD- or DVD-ROM drive, E: CD- or DVD-ROM drive, F: Verwisselbare schijf, G: Verwisselbare schijf, H: Verwisselbare schijf, I: Verwisselbare schijf, J: Verwisselbare schijf, K: CD- or DVD-ROM drive, L: CD- or DVD-ROM drive, M: CD- or DVD-ROM drive, N: CD- or DVD-ROM drive - Model(s): A: Unknown, C: WDC WD1600JD-55HBB0 IDE, D: HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B, E: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG, F: Unknown, G: Unknown, H: Unknown, I: Unknown, J: Unknown, K: SDUD S9E38XE SCSI CdRom Device, L: SDUD S9E38XE SCSI CdRom Device, M: SDUD S9E38XE SCSI CdRom Device, N: SDUD S9E38XE SCSI CdRom Device Sound Card ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Manufacturer: Microsoft - Model: Microsoft UAA-functiestuurprogramma voor High Definition Audio - Realtek 880 Graphics Card ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Model: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS - Video Processor: GeForce 8400 GS (0x06E4) - Memory Size: 512 MB VRAM - Driver: nv4_disp.dll, version 6.14.11.6921 Display ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Manufacturer: (Standaardbeeldschermtypen) - Model: Plug en Play-monitor - Screen Resolution: 1024x768 (Normal 4:3 XGA) - Color Depth: 32-bit - Refresh Rate: 60 Hz Mouse ¯¯¯¯¯ - Manufacturer: Microsoft - Model: HID-compliant muis - # of Buttons: 8 - Connection: USB Keyboard ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Model: USB-HID - Type: Uitgebreid (101 of 102 toetsen) - # of Function Keys: 12 Network Card ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Model(s): Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC (Ethernet 802.3), 1394-netwerkkaart (Ethernet 802.3) - Addresses: IP: 192.168.2.15, MAC: 00:11:D8:7B:D7:75, DHCP: 192.168.2.254 DirectX ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Version: 9.0c Operating System ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ - Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional - Version: 5.1.2600 - Service Pack: Service Pack 3 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Generated by Flitskikker InfoTool (Version 3.1.0.136) http://flitskikker.fl.funpic.org/software/infotool
Extreme110 4 Posted April 9, 2012 Dude, we've got essentially the same computer, except mine's a Dell, it has an older graphics card, more HDD space, less RAM, no network card (I use a USB connector) and a slightly better sound card. It's best that you save up and buy an entirely new PC. It's just going to be too much of a hassle to keep upgrading this one without eventually replacing everything. If you can build a PC, then do a custom one, otherwise do your research and find a cheap, yet high performing gaming package.
DeadMan 103 Posted April 9, 2012 Everytime when I am playing video games on it, it will play normal and then it will lag for a short period and then play as normal again. Such things usually happen when Windows swaps to HDD. Looks like your HDD have low write speed - this causes lag.
wvsnl 3 Posted April 9, 2012 Is there any way to increase that write speed, or am I out of options?
DeadMan 103 Posted April 10, 2012 Is there any way to increase that write speed, or am I out of options? The only way I know is to get new fast hard disk.
