Hello all,
I've been going back through my game library the past few days, and it crossed my mind to go back and play the KotOR series. I remembered that there were several restoration projects going on at one point a few years ago, so I thought maybe it was time for me to go back and play through all of the content I have missed out on. I'd also like to say thank you to all of the wonderful people that have kept the dream alive! You guys are great!
On to my dilemma and reason for posting here. As the name of this post suggests, I am attempting to run KotOR II on a Mac. More specifically, I am trying to run the 1.7 content mod; after creating a Windows XP virtual machine via the VirtualBox program, I was able to successfully install the game. Sadly, the game didn't like the graphics drivers that Sun built into VirtualBox, so it left me no choice but to copy all that over into OS X, where I have been able to run the game in a Wine wrapper. I then ran the TSLRCM file using a Wine program called PlayOnMac (similar to PlayOnLinux), and it supposedly installed without a hitch. That said, if I run the game, I see no evidence of the mod having installed. If I go into the game files, I can find the custom game launcher that should have replaced the default one, so I would assume that I definitely did something, but I cannot be completely sure. The game itself works absolutely fine, and in fact, I am really surprised by just how fast and smooth it looks compared to the Xbox version of the game. One thing I noticed was that Kreia mentioned the Ebon Hawk in my first conversation with her as soon as I went into the morgue and took the torch off the dead body. I thought I read something somewhere that suggested this was a change from the mod, but again, I'm new to this and I'm not so sure if that is a good indicator or not. Supposing the mod did install itself and just didn't change the launcher, are there any early signs that I can look for to find out if it worked or not?
Here is a link to how I got the game running on the Mac side of things: http://portingteam.com/files/file/7009-star-wars-knights-of-the-republic-2/page__st__30#commentsStart
It looks like they used the Xbox/old style for the game launcher here, as opposed to the ones that have the Game, Configure, Update, Register, etc. buttons on the start screen. Kinda strange isn't it?
I know this is a bit of an odd question, but if anyone has any advice or recommendations, I'd really appreciate it!
