I had this same problem when starting a new game (I had no saves to load so I don't know if this will fix your loading issue as well.) So I found on the steam forums a fix; you have to turn frame buffer effects off in graphics options-> advanced options. Apparently there can be conflicts when it switches between game and video. The above fixed mine, hopefully it will fix yours as well Equinox!
