I recommend this procedure:
Widescreen Patch
The Steam Version of KotOR is encrypted and will not work properly with the Widescreen Patcher without a crack. Use this one and replace in your game folder:https://deadlystream.com/files/file/1320-kotor-editable-executable
Apply the Universal Widescreen patch via the link below:
https://www.wsgf.org/article/universal-widescreen-uniws-patcher
Widescreen Patch - Install Steps
1. Run the Utility
2. Choose your game installation folder (not the override)
3. From the drop down menu, select Star Wars: KotOR (1024x768) and write in the boxes your resolution, then click Patch!Run swconfig.exe: set the resolution to the highest, refresh rate to 60 (or higher if you have that option), Texture pack to high, make sure none of the check-boxes are checked except hardware mouse and V-Sync and finally click apply.
Next, you need to edit your swkotor.ini. Scroll down to [Graphics Options] and change the width and height to match your monitor resolution. Ex: Width=2560 and Height=1440.
High Resolution Menus
https://deadlystream.com/files/file/1159-kotor-high-resolution-menus
Installation
1. Copy the gui files from one of the ratio folders that match your monitor resolution and drop all 81 items into your override folder.
2. Copy hires_patcher.bat, hires_patcher.exe, and hires_patcher.pl to your game directory folder (the one with the exe, not the override) and run hires_patcher.bat
3. Follow the instructions to patch your swkotor executable (As follows without parenthesis: Width, Height, No, swkotor.exe, and then your done)HD UI Menu Pack
https://deadlystream.com/files/file/1226-hd-ui-menu-packNOTE: This was taken from my KotOR Modding Guide on Steam, tweaked to only include the 3 major things: Widescreen Patch, High Resolution Menus, and the HD UI Menu Pack.
I hope this helps!
Hey. I followed your guide, and the game runs fullscreen, but menu seems to be in lower right of screen, not in middle where it should be. Attached is screenshot. Help appreciated :)

The Steam version of K1 is pretty much the same as the disc version (+patches), so the process is the same, the game is just in a different location by defauly.

B.t.w. for next time, you can copy your Saves (and Override if you like) to a flash drive or something, then place that back after reformatting/reinstalling.
Hey again. I tried using UniWS, as well as the High Resolution Menu Mod, and am unable to get game to run in 2560*1440 resolution. Here is what I am seeing when I launch game, minus the white area. Am not sure how to go about doing this, help greatly appreciated...

Hi guys. I am trying to get Kotor 1 to run with 2560*1440 resolution. I first patched the game EXE with UniWS, and then followed the instructions for the High Resolution Menus Mod. Here is what I am seeing when I launch game. I made screen capture with MS Paint, minus the white area of image. Anyone know what is going on, and how to fix? Help greatly appreciated

For mods, the restored content mod is very straight forward. The hak pad mod should be installed after it.
If you're using the Steam version of the game and those are the only 2 mods you're going to use, just turn on these mods via the Steam workshop, no involved installation needed. I believe the hak mod is on the Steam workshop.
If you're using a version not from Steam, install the restored mod first, It's been a while but I believe the installer is very straight forward. As for the other mod, I think you just have to copy the files from that into the override folder in the Kotor 2 main folder.
Thank you so much for the help and info! I was able to install both the TSLRCM and hak pad mods for Kotor 2. I have a side question: I was hoping I could play Kotor 1 as well on my laptop, but that is an older game as well, and I had to mod it a bit to get it to run. Thing is, I recently reformatted my laptop, and reinstalled Windows 11, therefore losing game and other data. I have the Steam version of Kotor 1, and am wondering if there is anything I can do to get it to run at 2560*1440 resolution on my laptop? I don't remember what mods I had for that game. Help greatly appreciated

Hi guys. I recently reinstalled Windows 11, and am about to install Kotor 2 again. I don't remember, but does Kotor 2 natively support 2560*1440 resolution? Also, how should I go about re-installing game and mods? The only mods I use are the Kotor 2 Restored Content Mod, and hak pad. Thoughts and help appreciated :)

Hi guys. My laptop has a native resolution of 2560*1440, and I am hoping I can play K1 in that resolution. I was going to follow this guide:
https://www.wsgf.org/article/star-wars-knights-old-republic
On that page, I need to download override files for HUD size correction, but my resolution is not listed for the download links. How should I proceed? Has anyone on here been able to get K1 to work on 2560*1440 res? Thoughts and help appreciated

I do have Steam Version purchased. On my current laptop, I dont see 2560*1440 as selectable resolution. On my Steam version, highest res is 1920*1080. I would be using the TSL RCM also.

Hi guys. I am getting a new laptop this week that has a native res of 2560x1440, does Kotor 2 support that resolution? If not, is there a way to get game to run at that resolution? Help appreciated :)

Hi guys. I was able to get game to run in 1920*1080 fullscreen, but I still have the "no movement combat bug". In the past, for Kotor 2, I used Nvidia Profile Inspector to limit FPS to 72 and that fixed the combat bug for that game. Now, for both Kotor 1 and 2, I use the Nvidia Control Panel to limit FPS. For Kotor 2, limiting game to 72 FPS worked, but can't say the same for Kotor 1. For Kotor 1, I tried 72 FPS, 60 FPS, even 144 FPS (Native Laptop Refresh Rate), and none of those worked. Any help greatly appreciated

Hi guys. My laptop has a 144hz screen, and I too am having the no movement combat bug. Is there a way around this or a fix? Help appreciated

I tried that, both in-game, as well as in Nvidia Inspector. I got game to work fullscreen with 1920*1080, but that was with refresh rate at 144hz (144 in .ini file) and still had movement bug. If I set it to 60hz (60 in .ini file), it puts game in small window. Not sure how to proceed or what I am doing wrong.

Hi guys. I have been trying to get Kotor 1 to work on my laptop. My laptop has a refresh rate of 144hz. I went to Widescreen Gaming Forums (WSGF), and tried following that with UniWS as well. Also, when I did try to play game, I keep getting the "movement bug" where I am unable to move Character after any battle. Has anyone on here been able to get game to work in higher res, preferably 1920*1080, and also avoid movement bug?
For the movement bug, I tried capping to 60fps with Nvidia Inspector, didn't work. I even tried capping to 72 like in Kotor 2. I also tried capping to 59. If I lower refresh rate in kotor ini to 60, it puts game in a small window, but I don't think it has the movement bug. Thing is, if I go fullscreen and put 144 as refresh rate in kotor ini, the bug is present. Not sure what else to do/try...
Any help appreciated

I just now commented on video. I have been trying to get game to be in widescreen, and also avoid the combat movement bug. My laptop has a 144hz display. I think the video said to select a resolution in the swconfig, but there is nothing to select. Also in-game, the resolution options window is empty. Anyone know a fix? Help greatly appreciated

If you want support for widescreen resolutions above 1280x1024, it's highly recommended that you follow the instructions presented in the following video. By using
UniWS, you also avoid many of the issues caused by FlawlessWidescreen, including savegame corruption:
Please ensure your desktop scaling is set to 100%--not higher, not lower--to ensure that the widescreen functionality displays properly in-game.
I did use UniWS. I was able to get game fullscreen with that, and also setting refresh rate in Kotor ini to 144. In fullscreen, the movement bug is present. If I lower refresh rate in Kotor ini to lets say 60, it makes game run in a small window.

Hi guys. I was able to get game to run in fullscreen (finally) using UniWS, but now I am experiencing the combat movement bug. I have used Nvidia Inspector and set frame limit to 72fps, like I did with Kotor 2, but no luck. I am playing on a laptop and it's refresh rate is 144hz or whatever. Is there anything I can do? Help appreciated

Hi guys. I am trying to get Steam version of Kotor 1 to run in 1920*1080 widescreen. I went to WSGF site and downloaded UniWS and required files. UniWS said patch was successful, but game still runs in a small window. In game options, custom 1920*1080 res does not show up as selectable. I even tried changing the "height" and "width" in the Kotor 1 ini file. How should I proceed? Any help greatly appreciated :)

Hi guys. I have been playing Kotor 2 for several years now, but each time I start a new game/save, I keep running into the same issue. Before I get my Equipment back from the TSF on Telos, it takes forever to kill the Assassin near my TSF Prison, and also the optional fight near the Cantina. Since I don't have any weapons, I have to rely on fists and force powers. Anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed? Thoughts and help greatly appreciated :)

Hi guys. I think I fixed it, but will test further to make sure. Anyway, here is what I did:
- Run Nvidia Inspector
- In NI, select profile for Kotor 2
- Set Frame Rate Limiter to 60FPS
- In game, toggle V-Sync to on
- Profit!
My laptop has a native res of 1920*1080 at 120hz refresh rate and display uses Nvidia G-Sync. So far, fix seems to be working!

Hi guys. I have an issue where I am unable to move after combat. I have movement keys set to arrow keys and toggling v-sync on/off in game settings does nothing. I read online that toggling v-sync to on should fix it, yet it does nothing for me. Anyone know what I can do? Help greatly appreciated
Note: I started a new game/save, and issue started happening. In previous save, v-sync was set to off.

Hi guys. I am trying to play Kotor 1 (Steam Version) on a Windows 10 laptop that has a native resolution of 1920*1080 and at 120hz refresh rate. When I launch game, it starts in a Window. Also, there are no selectable resolutions under graphics settings in game. Even SWConfig shows no selectable resolution. Anyone else experience this and know a fix? I have tried everything I can think of and even searched Google. Thoughts and help GREATLY appreciated

Hi guys. I have been trying to get Kotor 1 to run in fullscreen on my laptop. In game, I am unable to select any resolution under graphics settings and game runs in a window. My laptop has a refresh rate at 120hz and native resolution of 1920*1080. On Steam, I looked at this Discussion Thread (https://steamcommunity.com/app/32370/discussions/0/540741131005647980/) and someone got it to work by dropping refresh rate to 60hz. With Nvidia Control Panel, I was able to add an unsupported 60hz refresh rate, but am worried it could damage my display. Since I am using a laptop, I have no way of replacing display if it gets damaged. My question is, how can I tell if 60hz will damage my 120hz display or not? Thoughts and help greatly appreciated
Kotor 1 2560*1440 res?

Hey. I have Scaling set to 125%. Is there a way to set Scaling per game, like set it to 100% for Kotor 1, but 125% for everything else?
Edit: My laptop's primary graphics uses Nvidia. In the Nvidia Control Panel, I saw an option for Scaling, but not sure what to set it to.
