About this blog

Hi there. I was hoping someone could offer me some advice on how to fix a weird and problematic bug in KOTOR 1. In my modded copy of the game (containing only my Sleheyron mod), I am running into the highly unusual glitch that every time I re-enter the Eastern Dune Sea, the module resets. Meaning the Krayt Dragon respawns, Komad Fortuna respawns, and the ill-fated hunter sidekick of Komad respawns. When I approach the cave, I watch the other hunter get eaten every time.

The only thing not resetting is Komad's dialogue. Which means once the Krayt Dragon has been killed once, Komad only ever states that the beast is dead. This is despite the fact the Krayt is visibly in the cave- and approaching it will kill the player.

So the major issue that this bug is causing is that Bastila's father's holocron is therefore impossible to be obtained if the player has already found the Tatooine Star Map. As a temporary fix, I moved the spawn location of the holocron to outside the cave. This has seemed to generally work well, but since I've made this mod I really would rather not have a mostly-broken vanilla module in the release.

I've tried everything I can think of to get this mod at least to delete the Krayt Dragon if the Tatooine Star Map is found. But nothing, and I mean literally nothing, is having any effect (aside from the moved spawn location of the holocron).

  • Editing the OnEnter, and saving the new script to Override, does not affect the module.
  • Editing the dialogue with Komad or the hunter to run a script to delete the Krayt Dragon if the journal entry for the Tatooine Star Map hunt is surpassed does not do anything.
  • Adding a script to the OnClick and OnNotice of Dubacks in the Eastern Dune Sea to delete the Krayt Dragon also does nothing.

I'm really not sure what else there is to try. Here are a few other details:

  • There is no .mod made for this module; meaning I did in fact move the spawn location of the holocron in the .rim. At one point I had created a .mod as a means of troubleshooting the module not loading. This was deleted later, as there was no actual mod content in the module.
  • At one point early on, I spawned a Gizka in the Eastern Dune Sea as a mod test. I believe it was in the .rim version of the module, before I even knew what a .mod was... I ended up deleting the gizka. My best guess is that because I modded the .rim then, it permanently broke the module's functions... although I cannot figure out why that would happen.
  • The only content in the module that has any modded content are two .dlg files (both in Override only): One with Komad and one when approaching the banthas with fodder.

I am open to any suggestions. If anyone wants to try testing the module, I would recommend installing my Sleheyron mod in its entirety. I have to recommend installing the entire expansion, since I have absolutely no idea what content is causing the glitch. There isn't an Eastern Dune Sea .mod to install, which would have been my only guess.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!
