Pops/clicks in audio

I'm sure someone's noticed the many audio pops and clicks caused by playing the game using today's audio chips.

It's no big deal, but it's certainly annoying.

Is there a common fix I'm overlooking?

I'm talking about KOTOR, by the way, not The Sith Lords (which has a HQ sound mod I like quite a lot).
