Kotor 2 Crash Problem

I've been trying to play Kotor 2 again but i've had some issues. My computer runs Kotor 1 just fine but Kotor crashes every time I pass the character creation screen. I also cannot use the 1.0b patch because then the game just wont run at all.

 

Any help would be much appreciated!
