Three-Tiered Jedi Robes

Recommended Posts

Basically inspired by @ebmar Three-Tiered Dark Jedi Robes @N-DReW25 "N-DReW's Dark Jedi Robes" and do correct me if anybody's already attempted this.

My intentions are to use the brown, red, and blue Jedi robes as the texture basis for the Jedi, Knight, and Master robes respectively.

From there you'd have the different color variations under each (brown, red, blue). Nothing fancy, just a bit of color shifting to imitate the original robes where possible. Obviously it's going to vary a bit based on the hues of the base texture--the brown Knight robe is leaning more towards the tan side at the moment--but for those who actually like the vanilla robes I think the opportunity is here to provide another immersive twist (that maybe the game should have had all along, but that's where modding comes in anyway).

Let me know your thoughts! I'll update later in the week with my first trial run and see how it looks in practice.

Hello PirateofRohan!

I like your idea!

As far as I remember there are 9 jedi robes in the game (maybe plus Qel-Droma robe) and 3 sith robes.

As I understand, you want to make 3 slightly different recolours for each robe, right ? So there will be 3 tiers: 3 robes for Jedi, 3 for Knight and 3 for Master robes ?

Are you going to change only textures or stats too ?

I had some thoughts and even made some recolours with the original robe textures. Though they look different from vanilla robes, I can show them if you like.

@heyorange

That's the intention, yes--three different tiers/textures with their own versions of the brown/red/blue color schemes. Though I'm not above carrying the tiers over to the sith robes--if nothing else then just to match their item descriptions of having one grey and one dark blue robe per tier (except for Master, which is listed as grey and black).

Currently I have no plans to touch the Qel-Droma robes, as @constantinople33 already did an excellent job with their Lore-Friendly Qel-Droma Robes skin and anything I try would undoubtedly pale in comparison.

I hadn't considered stat changes but that would be easy enough to incorporate since I have to alter the uti files anyway to ensure the correct texture and icons are showing.

I am interested in anything you wish to share--I find modding like this is more rewarding when it's a collaborative effort!

Well. It took me some time to actually find these textures from my old harddrive. The thing is, I'm using JC's Supermodel Port for K1 in me Kotor1 game right now, to be exactly this one (P.S. actually I'm working on reskinning textures for this model):

That's why I can't show screens of the robes themselves, but I can share the textures. I'll send you private message with the attached .rar file. To see them in the game just rename them according to existing robes in the game and drop in the Override folder. If you decide to use them in your mod or you want to modify them you have my permisson. Just note me as original author of them if you're going to release your mod with them.

I like your jedi knight and jedi master robes reskins. They look great!

In my humble opinion, Black Dark Jedi Master Robe looks too Dark. Maybe because of the lightning in this particullar area.

As for Jedi robes, they look a little to simple. Maybe if the belt colour was different, or colour of the boots brown it would be better.

Anyway its just my opinion, I hope this won't offend you. Keep up the good work!

No offense taken--I was thinking along similar lines. I'm also on the fence about the blue Jedi Knight robe--it seems a bit bright in my opinion. On the other hand, that model just seems to like bright colors to begin with, plus I don't want to risk confusion with the Dark Jedi Knight's blue variant.

Anyway, as per your critiques:

Dark Jedi Master (Grey, left - Black, right for color comparison) - I went back and lightened it up again. My initial fear was that the black would look more grey, but that appears to have been unfounded.

Jedi Robe Variants - Trying just the robe this time--gives it a sense of simplicity without going completely overboard with the color variants. I left the wrist guards brown on the off chance it looked decent, but that doesn't seem to be the case imho.

I definitely like the result. It looks awesome)

That's great! I like this variant more than previous one. Though, brown wrist guards look a bit out of place here for my taste.

Just a suggestion: to use the collar and shoulderboards from brown robe for them. Or maybe instead paint them with more darker blue/red colour. What do you think ?

Hello, I like what you're doing with this mod here!  Though I have noticed a few inaccuracies and issues which I hope to point out.

First of all, Three-Tiered Dark Jedi Robes is technically a fashionable new take on a mod I made called "N-DReW's Dark Jedi Robes":

You might've noticed that the Dark Jedi Robes has a unique icon, the Dark Jedi Knight Robes has a unique icon and the Dark Jedi Master Robes has a unique robes despite all sharing the exact same texture as the Dark Jedi Robes.

"Dark Jedi Robes" is a cut item, it is the Dark Jedi variant of the brown "Jedi Robes" you first get on Dantooine. I've posted another mod which gives Dark Jedi Knight and Master robes the same icon as the Dark Jedi Robe:

What N-DReW's Dark Jedi Robe mod does is that it gives the Dark Jedi Knight and Dark Jedi Master robes a texture based on the icon they have in the vanilla game.

58b6fdd6f8769af60b401b5e97b38c81-swkotor

The reason why I am bringing this up with you is that you've done your robes back to front, you've put the Master Robe as the Knight Robe and the Knight Robe as the Master Robe.

I don't want you to not do the Dark Jedi Robes simply because me and ebmar did the exact same thing before you (And before me I believe Space Alex and Shem did the same concept as well in their own mods), I'm simply suggesting you should swap the textures around.

I am noticing something here, those are both Dark Jedi Knight textures... yet they look different on both NPCs.

Did you reskin the male texture and female texture separately? Because if you did I'd like to inform you that male and female Jedi Robe textures share the exact same texture. For example, if you made a clone of the female light grey robe texture and renamed it to the male robe texture it'd work just fine on a male NPC.

I hope to see more come out of this project, I am eager for updates! 👍

Gotcha. Thank you for bringing that to my attention! While admittedly Knight vs Master began as an error of ignorance, the bit that "troubles" me with swapping the textures is I worry that the Jedi Knight texture would then feel too visually distinct. As they sit now, swapped though they may be, there's a visual link going from Jedi to Knight, with Master standing apart as the most utilitarian of the bunch. In my mind (and perhaps only in my mind) it would be a shame to lose that--although from a lore standpoint I suppose one could make the opposite argument with little trouble.

Ah. If you're seeing what I think you're seeing, that is actually two separate Dark Jedi Knight textures sharing the same screenshot to save time. The notes in their uti files list a black and a blue variant for each Sith robe. While playing around with that (and debating how to distinguish Jedi and Sith blue beyond garishly bright/dark colours), I hit on the idea of just making them black and grey for the Sith instead--which has the added bonus of matching up with those Dark Jedi who desperately need to get paid by hunting you.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement--depending on how the my edits go, I may update with the latest looks some time this evening.

Alright here we are.

Jedi (Red) - altered it so that only the robe and wristguards are coloured from the initial brown base.

Jedi (Blue) - Same as above, also touched up the colouring to keep it from being too bright.

Jedi Knight (Blue) - I'm on the fence still, as it is looking too bright a blue to me. On the other hand, the other robes in this tier are coloured rather brightly, so maybe just chalk it up to the nature of the robe?

Jedi Knight (Brown/Tan) - Bled some of the colour out of the trousers, so it hopefully looks more natural now.

I like all of these! Brown/Tan looking a little too yellow/green to me, but I love this idea and it always bothers me in K1 that the robes all look the same across ranks. I like the two shades for Black.

Some nice variations on the standard Jedi Robe's you have there :) there was so much room for variation within the game's base items.

I look forward to seeing how it all turns out. ( also, when you are done I might request permission to port them over to KotOR2 at some point so feel free to drop me a message before-hand if that would be agreeable with you )

Alright I've played around with  the "brown" Jedi Knight robe a bit. This time the trousers are black to match the wrist guards and the robe's colouring is slightly more desaturated to avoid the yellow/green look it was having in motion/lighting. There's an unintended side effect of a slightly "worn" pattern on the robe, but it honestly looks kinda nice if I may say so myself.

Going to do a final test run tomorrow but I believe I've finalized the colors. My only reservation is still the brown Jedi Knight robes. Unfortunately the line between Jedi and fungi is a fine one to walk.
