PLEASE READ THROUGH THE MOD INFO ON THIS PAGE AND THE FAQ ARTICLE FOR MY KOTOR SAME-GENDER ROMANCE MODS BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS!

1. DESCRIPTION:

As much as I love KotOR II: TSL, I have always been disappointed by the lack of same-gender romance options with any of the party members. Granted, TSL never had any fully developed romance arc to begin with, but given KotOR 1 at least has Juhani as a lesbian romance option even though her romance has less content (and is much easier to miss due to bugs) compared to Bastila's or Carth's, the lack of same-gender romance options in TSL is disappointing, in my opinion.

My Visas Marr and Female Exile Romance as well as Atton Rand and Male Exile Romance mods had been made and released as part of my same-gender romance mod project for TSL, now I present to you the next and the biggest part of my project: Handmaiden Handmaiden and Female Exile - Disciple and Male Exile Romance mod!

This mod makes the Handmaiden a romance option for female Exiles, and the Disciple a romance option for male Exiles. Players do not need to worry about any possible pronouns mix-up either because this mod will make the Handmaiden refer to a female Exile by "she/her" and the Disciple refer to a male Exile by "he/him".

If a female Exile has much higher influence with Visas than the Handmaiden, the Handmaiden vs. Visas jealousy/rivalry cutscenes will be triggered (however, be warned that this will also make the Handmaiden refuse to speak to the player for the rest of the game, unless you installed my No Jealousy Lock in Handmaiden Dialogue mod). Similarly, if a male Exile has much higher influence with the Disciple than Atton, Atton vs. the Disciple jealousy/rivalry cutscenes will be triggered.

It is worth noting that this mod also enables the romantic subtext between a female Exile and Atris, due to the fact that said romantic subtext are only available if you recruit Handmaiden as a party member.

Please note that this mod is ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE ENGLISH LOCALIZATION OF TSL AND TSLRCM. I do not provide support for non-English localizations of TSL and TSLRCM.

2. IMPORTANT NOTE TO MAKE THIS MOD WORK:

In order for the Handmaiden/Disciple content from this mod to take effect, you must use a save before Handmaiden/Disciple joins your party.

In Handmaiden's case, you must load a save before leaving the secret Academy on Telos. In Disciple's case, you must load a save before meeting him in the Enclave Sublevel on Dantooine. There is NO other way to add Handmaiden/Disciple in your party if you have played past the point where Handmaiden/Disciple is supposed to join your party.

3. INSTALLATION:

***** Due to the fact that this mod will make considerable amount of changes to the game's content, please read my instructions carefully and check out the "MOD COMPATIBILITY" section below before installing this mod! *****

First and foremost, make sure you have The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM) installed since TSLRCM is REQUIRED for this mod to work.

!! ATTENTION!! STEAM USERS: If you play KotOR 2 on Steam, DO NOT USE THE STEAM WORKSHOP VERSION OF TSLRCM if you want to use this mod! Instead, use the installer (.exe) version of TSLRCM, which can be downloaded from Deadly Stream here.

I recommend reading this Deadly Stream post on why Steam Workshop is NOT recommended for modding KotOR 2.

After installing TSLRCM, extract the Hand_Disc_SGRomances.7z you downloaded to anywhere you like, as long as it is not within the KotOR 2 directory.

Before you install, make sure that your KotOR 2 main game directory and all subfolders are NOT set as read-only, otherwise you may get an error message that says along the lines of "[ERROR] Unhandled exception: Access violation at address...". Right-click your KotOR 2 folder and subfolders, go to Properties and uncheck the "Read-only".

Run Install.exe. You will notice that this mod provides two installation options. You may only choose ONE of these options:

  • Default Installation: This option will make the Handmaiden join a female Exile and the Disciple to join a male Exile automatically. Players will not need to do any extra actions for it to happen. However, this option does not allow players to recruit both the Handmaiden and the Disciple in a single playthough. WARNING: If you choose this installation option, male Exiles will not be able to recruit the Handmaiden. Similarly, female Exiles will not be able to recruit the Disciple.
  • PartySwap Compatible Installation: This option is for players who have installed DarthTyren's PartySwap mod, which allows players to recruit both the Handmaiden and the Disciple in a single playthrough regardless of the Exile's gender. Make sure you have installed PartySwap first BEFORE choosing this installation option!

Once you have chosen the installation option you want, and select your KotOR 2 game folder as your KotOR 2 directory path, click the “Install” button and let the installer do its job.

This mod also provides compatibility patches for players who also have installed any of the following mods:

Go to the “Compatibility Patches” folder from this mod, read the READ ME files within the subfolders and follow the instructions to make these mods work together with mine.

When you install this mod, two new folders named "backup" and “uninstall” will be created by the installer in the same folder as the installer. Do not delete the folders or any of the files within the folder if you are planning on uninstalling this mod.

The "Source" folder includes the source of the scripts used by this mod for modders' reference. Ignore the "Source" folder if you only want to install and play this mod.

4. UNINSTALLATION:

Open Install.exe and select your KotOR 2 directory where you installed this mod. From the “Tools” dropdown menu, select “Uninstall Mod / Restore Backup”, then confirm to uninstall the mod. You can also choose to delete the backup after uninstalling the mod.

Please note that if you have installed PartySwap and you want to uninstall it, you need to follow the instructions from the PartySwap mod.

5. KNOWN ISSUES:

None currently known. If you find any other bugs or problems, please let me know.

6. MOD COMPATIBILITY:

Other mods that modifies any of the following comtent will likely conflict with this mod:

  • disciple.dlg, Disciple's main dialogue file
  • kreia.dlg, Kreia's main dialogue file
  • mira.dlg, Mira's main dialogue file
  • Dialogue of the Rebuilt Jedi Enclave sequence
  • k_003ebo_enter.ncs and a_next_scene.ncs, script used for entering the Ebon Hawk and party member cutscenes on the Ebon Hawk

I have set up the installer to install this mod by patching the relevant dialogue files to improve compatibility with other content mods as much as possible, but it is still not guaranteed to be compatible with every other mods that modify the same files.

If you use any of the below mods, I have provided compatibility patches, as noted in the "INSTALLATION" section above:

This mod is not compatible with any other mod that involves putting the holorec.dlg file in the Override folder. If you want to use this mod, make sure you DO NOT have holorec.dlg in your Override folder, or Handmaiden will not be able to join your female Exile's party.

This mod is compatible with KOTOR 2 Community Patch.

If you want to use my Atton Rand and Male Exile Romance, install this mod first, then install Atton Rand and Male Exile Romance and the compatibility patch included in the Atton romance mod.

This mod is compatible with JC2's Train the Handmaiden.

If you want to use JediArchivist’s Mira Romance Mod, you must install my mod after Mira Romance mod.

This mod also makes the Visas romance scene trigger for female Exiles, while Disciple will replace Visas in said scene if you play a male Exile, so unless you want the Visas romance scene available for both male and female Exiles, if you install this mod, you will not need to install the “Visas Romance Scene” component of my Visas Marr and Female Exile Romance mod. This mod is compatible with the “Kreia’s Reference to Visas Romance” component of the Visas Marr and Female Exile Romance mod.

If you're uncertain if a mod is compatible with this mod or not, feel free to ask me.

7. PERMISSION:

You may modify this mod for personal use or show this mod in screenshots. However, do not release your mods containing assets from my mod without my permission.

You may use the k_003ebo_enter and a_next_scene scripts from this mod to make compatibility patches with your mod, but do not claim these modifications as your own.

I do not use nor support Steam Workshop, so I do not want any of my mods to be uploaded to Steam Workshop.

Yes! The Handmaiden suits being a lesbian a lot more honestly.

Now- what I'm wondering- if I install all of your romance mods- is there any conflicts and conversely how many straight romances are then available?

I totally agree.

My Handmaiden/Disciple romance mod has some minor conflicts with my Visas romance and Atton romance mods, but nothing that will cause game-breaking bugs.

My Handmaiden/Disciple romance mod and my Atton romance mod have a minor conflict concerning the script files that set the condition of the party members' cutscenes on the Ebon Hawk. My Handmaiden/Disciple romance mod has a compatibility patch for players who want to use both of those mods together.

Both my Visas romance and Handmaiden/Disciple romance mods modifies the Visas or Disciple conversation on the Ebon Hawk after Rebuilt Jedi Enclave sequence, though the difference is that my Visas romance mod makes the Visas romance scene available for both male and female Exiles, while my Handmaiden/Disciple romance mod makes the Visas romance scene available for female Exiles only, and the Disciple conversation available for male Exiles only.

As for how many straight romances are still available if you install all my romance mods, it depends. My Visas and Atton romance mods still allow male Exiles to romance Visas and female Exiles to romance Atton, while for my Handmaiden/Disciple romance mod, it depends on if you choose the default installtion option or PartySwap compatible installation option. If you choose the default installation option, male Exiles cannot recruit nor romance the Handmaiden, and female Exiles cannot recruit nor romance the Disciple. However, if you use PartySwap and choose the PartySwap compatible installation option, male Exiles can still romance the Handmaiden, and female Exiles can still romance the Disciple.

This, definitely

Only thing is - if playing male, will you now be unable to get the Visas after enclave scene? Or is a female exile going to get that now?

I've got one question - does PartySwap compatibility patch make the Ebon Hawk conversation after the Rebuilt Enclave scene involve Disciple obłym Dorn males or Visas only Dorn females?

I didn't expect this to be released this quickly!

Technically I had started working on this mod even before my Visas romance mod, as I already did some of the spliced VOs and modified DLG files used in this mod for my personal use. After making my Visas romance and Atton romance mods I decided to finally package those files into a Handmaiden/Disciple same gender romance mod and release it to the public.

Say if you have the Disciple/Handmaiden mod installed and you're playing as Female but don't have the the Visas romance installed- what happens with that scene after the Enclave when either the Disciple or Visas talk to you in Vanilla.

Visas will be the one who talks to the female Exile, so the Visas romance scene will be available for the female Exile.

Yes to both of these questions. If you play as a male Exile and still want the Visas romance scene, you'll need to install my Visas romance mod as well to overwrite that.

Yes, same with the default installation option.

So in addition to the Disciple/Handmaiden alteration- this also makes Visas gay too- and unavailable to Male players? Why?

I'll personally be keeping Atton straight, as I think the game would lose something without his comedic dialogue towards Male Exiles.

I love the idea of Handmaiden, especially in the almost fundamentalist environment she was raised in being Sapphic it just makes sense.

& not to be homophobic (Being a lesbian myself) The Disciple was always very camp to me.

But I really don't know about Visas but purely from a gameplay perspective I think the option should exist for Male STR8 players.

Too bad, because females will lose Disciple speaking with Carth about the attack. Isn't there a possibility for them to speak with the Exile together in PartySwap option? Disciple could speak his own sentences and then Visas will say those of her lines that Disciple doesn't say. It would really show that the Exile's apprentices are united and would remove the vanilla plot hole how Carth learned about the attack on Telos so quickly that he managed to get in time that TSLRCM fixed for females, PartySwap fixed for males, too, and you just restored it for females.

Lellukin just said that Visas, Disciple, Atton and the Handmaiden are for both genders. I guess I will rather stay in default PartySwap, because as much as Handmaiden could be bisexual, Visas feels pretty intimate with the Exile of both genders, but she is rather heterosexual and with jealous Atton conversations even without Atton & Male Exile Romance mod it just makes me feel like no matter which gender you are, everyone around you has got some sexual intentions. It would make more sense for me if Visas would remain uninterested in female Exile and it's just lesbian Handmaiden and for male Exile, Atton confesses his trust for the Exile and the redemption he managed to pursue with help from the Exile, but remove sexual feelings and rather leave the present form as a patch for Atton & Male Exile Romance Mod. And sorry for my strange language in previous post, it's my awesome auto-correct in my phone. It works only for Polish and it chooses sophisticated Polish words instead of the most popular English ones.

So in addition to the Disciple/Handmaiden alteration- this also makes Visas gay too- and unavailable to Male players? Why?

Because the primary objective of this mod is to make the Disciple a romance option for male Exiles in addition to making the Handmaiden a romance option for female Exiles, and I want to make every Disciple scene that was originally exclusive to female players in vanilla TSL available for male Exiles, which includes the post-Rebuilt Jedi Enclave Disciple conversation. The game files intend the post-Rebuilt Jedi Enclave conversation to be an either/or situation that either Visas or the Disciple talks to you and not both. Therefore, by making the Disciple conversation available for male Exiles, I have to make the Visas conversation and romance scene unavailable for male Exiles.

Too bad, because females will lose Disciple speaking with Carth about the attack. Isn't there a possibility for them to speak with the Exile together in PartySwap option? Disciple could speak his own sentences and then Visas will say those of her lines that Disciple doesn't say. I'm sorry, but I don't know if having both the Disciple and Visas speak to the Exile together in that scene can be done without causing bugs.

When I tried using PartySwap with a male Exile, after the post-Rebuilt Jedi Enclave Visas conversation I got a game breaking bug that made me stuck on the Ebon Hawk and prevented the game from progressing. I believe the bug was caused by PartySwap tried to load the scene where the Disciple talking to Carth after the Visas conversation. I encountered this issue as well when I tried to make the Disciple/Carth scene available after the Visas romance scene while I was working on my Visas romance mod. I can't find any way to work around the problem, which is why the Disciple/Carth scene won't be available as well if you use my Visas romance mod and you have recruited the Disciple.

What minor conflicts would these be?

The very post you were quoting had already explained:

Good news: danil-ch finally replied to my PM and gave me permission to make an Extended Enclave compatibility patch for this mod.

Even better news: My Extended Enclave compatibility patch works for both the "Default Installation" and "PartySwap Compatible Installation" options. I would recommend installing Extended Enclave AFTER my mod, regardless of which installation option you choose, THEN installing my Extended Enclave compatibility patch. More details and installation instructions have been included in the "Compatibility Patches" folder of my mod.

I hereby announce that my Handmaiden and Female Exile - Disciple and Male Exile Romances is officially updated to version 1.1 with an Extended Enclave compatibility patch.

EDIT: Now my mod is updated to version 1.1.1 because I just realized some potential issues with the endgame Handmaiden vs. Visas and Atton vs. Disciple dialogue and fixed it. Specifically, I extracted and edited the 903hand.dlg and 903atton.dlg files from 908MAL.mod and 909MAL.mod respectively instead of 903MAL.mod like in the previous versions.

I'm getting this error " [Error] Unhandled exception: Access violation at address 000000C4. Read of address 000000C4 (0)" when installing.

Here's my install progress:

-Windows 10

-Kotor 2 (from 10 year old cds, so not steam version)

-Patch 1.0b

-Universal widescreen patch

-TSLRCM 1.8.5 (could this be the problem?)

-Your mod

I also tried it with installing Extended Enclave first (which installs fine), but I get another unhandled exception when installing yours. Is your mod not compatible with TSLRCM 1.8.5 or is it something on my end?

If not , what version of TLSRCM are you running on? I'll just use that.

@Quauhtli

I modified the files from TSLRCM 1.8.5 for my mod, so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues with TSLRCM.

Try right-click your SWKOTOR2 folder or subfolders, go to Properties and uncheck the "Read-only", then install my mod again.

Thanks, that worked and it looks like it fully installed now. Thanks for the quick response!

Also, so Extended Enclave is also compatible with 1.8.5 then? Because I have not been able to find any info on it in that mod page or on reddit or other sites

Hey, I'd like to note that you've missed a line of dialogue from the Handmaiden- in Kreia's lesson about listening- in her thoughts she still uses Male Pronouns.

Hey, I just wanted to add that I've had some trouble installing this mod with the Steam Workshop version of TSLRCM 1.8.5, because Steam stores the Workshop files in a separate folder to the main KOTOR 2 directory (so, for example, 003EBO.mod is one of the files from TSLRCM that's modified by your mod, but it's not in the KOTOR 2 directory- it's in a separate Workshop folder). I have run the patch installer in both folders anyway, but I have had errors in both of them and I'm not sure if the installation occurred properly (if I run the installer in the main folder I get 12 errors because it can't find files which are in the workshop folder, and when I run it in the Workshop folder I get 5 errors because it can't find files that are in the main folder). Did the installation occur anyway, or should I try installing TSLRCM without the Workshop in order to use your mod properly?

I suggest you use TSLRCM without the workshop just to be safe.

It might work otherwise but being close to the end of the game having a game breaking bug that could have been avoided by using another installation method can be really frustrating.
