    Build a Calo

A Mod for Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic Author: N-DReW25 1.0.0 Release Date: 22.03.2024 Pre-Installation: Please install the K1 Community Patch FIRST before this mod! If you plan on using any of JCarter426's Cloaked Jedi Robe mods, please ensure that his mods are installed before Build a Calo. This mod is divided into two versions, the "Normal Versions" which uses the vanilla Calo Nord model and the "JC's Cloaked Robe Compatible version" which uses JC's Calo Nord hotfix model. If you plan on using the Cloaked Robes, install that mod before Build a Calo and use the "JC's Cloaked Robe Compatible version" of this mod, if you don't plan on using those mods then please use the "normal version" instead. Installation: Simply click on the INSTALL.exe and you'll be given two install options. "Calo Nord Head & Body" will allow you to modify Calo Nord's head & body post-Taris. "Calo Nord Body Only" will only allow you to modify Calo Nord's body post-Taris. This means the head texture you use on Taris will also appear post-Taris. Calo Nord's post-Taris appearance will now use the skin "N_CaloNord02.tga" in the Override and "N_CaloNordH02.tga" if you used "Calo Nord Head & Body". Once you've selected your desired option, click install then sit back and watch the TSLPatcher do its magic. If you do nothing after installing this mod, Calo Nord will use SpaceAlex's brown outfit post-Taris from the K1EP. You can install the "N_CaloNord02.tga" texture from the Optional Black Outfit folder to make Calo Nord's post-Taris outfit use Watcher07's black outfit (the same one recommended on the Kotor Mod Build website). You can download other Calo Nord textures & rename them to make them work with Build a Calo. For example, if you download "Quanon's Calo Nord Skin" you can install the "GameLook" option first and this will replace Calo's appearance on Taris. If you open "QSLook" and rename the following files, placing these renamed files in the Override will instead replace Calo's appearance post-Taris: N_CaloNord01.tga -------> N_CaloNord02.tga N_CaloNord01.txi -------> N_CaloNord02.txi N_CaloNordH01.tga -------> N_CaloNordH02.tga N_CaloNordH01.txi -------> N_CaloNordH02.txi This feature is intended to be customizable, instead of using Quanon's "GameLook" for Taris and "QSLook" post-Taris you can have it be reversed, or you could have Emperor Turnip's HD Calo Nord textures. Just remember to have the Taris skins set to 01 with the post-Taris skins set to 02 as shown above. And remember, N_CaloNordH02.tga will ONLY work with the "Calo Nord Head & Body" installation option. Description: Calo Nord is a bounty hunter in Kotor who is iconic for his colorful attire. Throughout the years, mods have sprung up which alter Calo Nord's appearance by changing the overall color scheme of his outfit or by changing his entire style, in the early to late 2000s these modded skins used the default 512x512 resolution whilst newer mods made in the late 2010s & beyond use higher texture resolutions to add more detail to the skins. 2024 is the year which saw the release of N-DReW25's take on the character with his "Build a Calo" mod. Breaking with the tradition of crafting a new skin to add to the collection of other Calo Nord skins which have come & gone, I've instead chosen to craft an elaborate little mod which uses other people's Calo Nord reskins in a way never before seen. The way "Build a Calo" works is that Calo Nord will appear on Taris with one set appearance, whilst after Taris he's wearing a different outfit. If you install this mod & boot up the game, Calo will wear his blue outfit on Taris whilst after Taris he'll wear a new brown outfit from the defunct K1 Enhancement Pack. If you choose to install the "Optional Black Outfit" AFTER installing Build a Calo, you'll have Calo use Watcher07's reskin (the same one from Snigaroo's Kotor Mod Build) after Taris. Now, if you look at the screenshots on the Build a Calo mod page, you'll see that it's possible to install "Quanon's Calo Nord Skin" found on Deadlystream with the "Gamelook" version appearing on Taris whilst the "QsLook" version appearing after Taris. Before Build a Calo, you'd have to pick either "Gamelook" or "QsLook"... it was one or the other, but with Build a Calo you can now have both. With this mod, you "Build" Calo Nord to your liking. Do you want to use both of Quanon's Calo Nord skins at once? Would you rather swap Quanon's Calo Nord skins so "QsLook" appears on Taris whilst "Gamelook" appears after Taris? Do you want to use Watcher07's black reskin on Taris whilst Calo uses the brown K1EP reskin after Taris? Will you install the "Calo Nord Head & Body" version of Build a Calo and use Quanon's skins to change both Calo's outfit & head? Or will you customise Calo Nord even further? Would you rather install "Calo Nord Body Only" version of Build a Calo & use Quanon's "Gamelook" version of Calo Nord's head on both Taris & after whilst his body uses Emperor Turnip's HD Calo Nord outfit texture on Taris and Quanon's "QsLook" texture after Taris? Or will new mods be published after Build a Calo? Maybe some new HD texutres for Calo Nord in the future may also be used alongside Build a Calo, maybe someone could make a "battle damaged" version of Calo Nord which can be used with this mod for his appearance after Taris. The possibilities are endless! Known Bugs: If there are bugs feel free to report them to me on Deadlystream. Incompatibilities: Incompatible with any mods that change Calo Nord's model & character files post-Taris. Please report any incompatibilities! Permissions: Do NOT claim credit for this mod and do not use assets from this mod without my permission. You are more then welcome to talor your Calo Nord reskins to be used alongside Build a Calo if you wish. Thanks to: SpaceAlex: For releasing his K1 Enhancement Project as a modder's resource & for making the Calo Nord reskin included in said mod! Watcher07: For making the Calo Nord Recolor mod! Quanon: Whilst I did not use your skin in my mod, your Calo Nord reskins inspired me to make this mod in the first place! JCarter426: For creating the Cloaked Robes mod & the hotfix for Calo Nord to make his character model work with the new supermodels of that mod. His hotfix for Calo Nord was included in Build a Calo for the sake of compatibility between our mods! Bioware: For such an amazing game! Fred Tetra: For Kotor Tool! Stoffee: For TSLPatcher! Everyone who downloads the mod! Legal: THIS MODIFICATION IS NOT SUPPORTED BY BIOWARE/OBSIDIAN ENTERTAINMENT, LUCASARTS, DISNEY OR ANY LICENSERS/SPONSORS OF THE MENTIONED COMPANIES. 3. Hi all, Ive been trying to troubleshoot modelling a lightsaber in kotor for a fair while now and I cant get the blade to be visible when in game. I have the model linked to all its parents and children in the correct order and the lightsaber itself appears in game, but the blade is invisible. I have tried linking and exporting with both the kotormax interface and the inbuilt 3dsmax interface to no avail. Needless to say im stumped. Ive attatched a screenshot of a standard lightsaber and my design (with blade problem & no texture) in-game. Thanks in advance. Using: 3dsmax 2019, kotormax v0.4.1, kotortool (most recent), MDLOps 1.0.0, kotor steam version
  4. Hi everyone, hope were all having a good day I'm super new to modding and modeling in kotor, let alone any game and im trying to make and import a custom lightsaber model into kotor 1. Ive followed a number of youtube tutorials but come up stuck. Ive made my model and saved it as an mdl file, put into kotor etc, then when I whip out the lightsaber it is invisible in game. Im using 3ds max to create a model and kotor tool + mdlops to convert it all to something kotor can read. The main info im going off is in (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPeUit0j5yY&ab_channel=TutorialTim). Please forgive me if im doing something blindly wrong, I have essentially no idea what i'm doing, Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. View File [K1] Song for the Cantina This mod change the background music [BGM] played inside Javyar's Cantina. -= BACKGROUND =- For me who playthrough most of Taris' side-quests, spending ~80% of the time in the cantina is inevitable -- reporting to Zax about the bounties, hunting credits from dueling, and maybe just to crashes on the sofa while enjoying the view of all the hot chicks inside the cantina is always a routine. But then at one moment I wanted to hear something new around the room, so I was thinking; why not make one? Influenced by a mod which change the cantina music to the classic piece from "A New Hope" and a reddit user; RomMitney, whom made some really cool cantina style one, this mod was made then. -= ABOUT THIS MOD =- This mod change the background music [BGM] played inside Javyar's Cantina to a custom one I made. At the time I was heavily-influenced with Lo-Sci-Fi stuffs -- something like world of Cyberpunk with lesser fidelity I wrote and created the song using FL Studio 12 PE. The song itself called "Tainted Love" With this installed you will have every cantina [module] in the game their own unique BGM Easter Egg: The song is included in "Lower City Movement #3", the third issues from a compilation of Lower City obscure artists which is released in 4001 BBY -- Included are two installation options; MP3 and WAV format that are needed depending on which version of the game. GOG/retail version should be good with the game's native WAV format -- however, there are also Steam and mobile-version of the game which--from what I recall--need it as an MP3. -- provided as well a user-friendly uninstaller for best compatibility purpose. -= KNOWN ISSUES =- N/A at the time it was tested -- let me know if you find some. -= FINAL REMARKS =- This mod work best with Sith Holocron's "Animated Cantina Sign for KotOR 1" installed, as the animated-broken-blipping-sign gives you that lively feeling inside the cantina so, I'd recommend you to use that mod in conjunction with this. There's always room for improvements; reviews, critiques, comments, suggestions, questions and feedbacks are much appreciated. PM me here, write them on my feed or leave any on the mod's page as you please. And thank you! for downloading, and using this mod. Hope you enjoy the mod as much as I do! -= INSTALLATION =- Run the installer, pick one of the available and suitable options then hit the [Install Mod ->] button! -= UNINSTALLATION =- Choose the UNINSTALL option in the installation menu Read the instructions for further required actions! -= COMPATIBILITY =- Will be compatible with mostly anything. Unless with mods that force-overrides tar_m03ae.MOD and/or ambientmusic.2DA, also coincidentally file-name conflicted -= REDISTRIBUTION =- I'd love to provide direct support to my work, which wouldn't be possible if they're scattered in the Unknown Regions -- so be considerate to not redistribute this mod or re-release it on any websites. However, you can use the music for your school and/or mod project or anything that is non-commercial, though be kindly to ask for permission first -- that way I know what's up, and if it's interesting enough I might offer to be involved, hahah. This mod replace the default voice-over used by the Elder Droids with the Legends rendition. # Background # It was one fine evening when I take a walk inside the Elder's Settlement. I wonder how them droids sounds like, and then... why do they sounded like T3? So I wanted to experience something else, then I remember back in the Ancient Ruins of Dantooine there was a similar droid there that has something different with it. Apparently it was speaking Rakatan's language that the PC did not recognized. I decided that I had to incorporate that with the droid then, hence the making of this mod. # About this Mod # This mod replace the default voice-over used by the Elder Droids with the Legends rendition. The sound was made using an inverted Rakatan's voice-over with added droid-like filters on top of it. By concept it gave an idea that the droids were speaking an epitome of language that the PC did not understand [in Bastila's voice], resulting in addition of changing the spoken line of the droids. It also changes the bubble-bark conversation to a cinematic one. For a distinctive look at what the mod does, here is the preview - # Final Remarks # There's always room for improvements; critiques, comments, suggestions, questions and feedbacks for the next update are very much appreciated. PM, write them on my feed or leave any on the mod's page as you please. And thank you! for downloading, and playing this mod. Hope you enjoy the mod as much as I do! Installation: run the installer and choose INSTALL option, then hit the [Install Mod ->] button! Uninstallation: Choose the UNINSTALL option in the installation menu Additionally you may want to remove eb_elderdrd_ANGM.wav from the streamwaves folder Compatibility: For maximum compatibility, install this mod at the latter stage of your mod's build Will not be compatible with any mods that hard-overwrite the Elder Settlement/unk_m42aa module Pay attention to the patcher's warning messages upon installing the mod. If it tells you that it found an instance of k_hdroid1_dialog.dlg and unk42_elddroidXYZ.utc in the Override folder, then there might be a compatibility issue indeed For this mod to be fully effective you should at least load a saved game before entering the Elder Settlement [unk_m42aa] module The mod is play-tested with the latest version of KotOR 1 Restoration/K1R and is compatible with it. At the other hand, it was only by far tested with K1:Community Patch/K1CP v1.7, though assets-wise, there's nothing to be conflicted with the 1.8 version Redistribution: do not redistribute this mod or re-release it on any websites. I'd love to provide direct support to my work, which wouldn't be possible if they're scattered in the Unknown Regions. If you are to re-use an assets to a project you will be releasing, you don't have to ask for permission - but your generous intention is very much welcome. I'd love to know what others are up too, particularly if my work are included. And then, make sure to give credits to BioWare & LucasArts with the release - as without them the enjoyment would be non-existent. A bit of appreciation to this lil' peasant work here is also a very warm welcome, welcome. Credits: The Almighty Force which gave me chance to finish the mod BioWare & LucasArts for developing one of the best RPG I've ever played DarthParametric for past-present knowledge which allows me to create mods and for all his outstanding creation that I am a fan of, also for the WAV header-converter stuff which makes the included custom VO went functional JCarter426 and Inyri Forge for all their awesome work that I look up to - I learned a lot from their mods and been practicing a lot using their method ROTNR for Creating Module Files in KotOR tutorial which opened the gate for me to packaging a custom MOD/module Fred Tetra for the amazing KotOR Tool The Audacity Team for Audacity Chrysocome and John Newbigin for dd stoffe for the magnificent TSL Patcher and Fair Strides for improving its features tk102 for K-GFF and DLGEditor Notepad++team for Notepad++ All the Tool Makers wasn't mentioned - can't make it without y'all! I have a question which - There is a custom module [B] which is copy-paste from vanilla [A], and the only difference is the skyboxes texture it uses [and that I assume no alternatives other than to make a custom module it based on]. I wanted the PC to warp to B from [C] -which is a custom module also- but upon arriving, the NPC placement is different from A and looks like it's having different state of boolean too. Can anyone help me with guessing what could be wrong or missing to make it work as expected? The procedure of warping should be something like this: A --> C --> B Much thanks for considering this.
  10. View File [K1] Legends - Elder Droid's Unique VO This mod replace the default voice-over used by the Elder Droids with the Legends rendition. 13. Greetings, fellow Jedi! Hope y'all have a nice day. May someone confirm on their end that having a custom [placeables] model with custom name which injected to a module crashes the game only upon exiting the game? Looks fine when loading between saved game. Custom [placeables] model with vanilla name injected to the module didn't crashes the game at all though. Many thanks for considering this, and may the Force be with you all! Update: I can confirm on my end that this happens - I decided to move the crashed [placeables] model to Override and having the vanilla named custom area model which referenced the crashed [placeables] model injected to each modules [that shares the area model] The game doesn't crash [upon exit]. So indeed - on my end; having a [custom placeables] model with custom name on a MOD/module file, crashes the game
  14. Greetings, fellow Jedi! Happy New Year, and hope y'all having a good time. I need an assistance to solve this problem I'm having with newly added items to the game. In my current playthrough I'm looking to have inyriforge's "The Real Vibroblade" installed. But instead of replacing the Vibroblades model and 2DA row like her default mod did; I intent to add a new row to the baseitems.2da, so the original model still available in the game and at the same time adds a new weapon to choose for. So far in my attempt, the weapon is functioning nicely and works as intended as seen below in the screenshot: But yes, the icon wasn't showed properly- and that's what I'm about to ask. Below is a glimpse of view to the item's setup inside the baseitems.2da and on its UTI: I have tried with changing the 'defaulticon' value to almost anything but still the icon wasn't showed so, I think I'm stuck and is looking forwards to any constructive feedback I could have here. I hope the information provided is enough for a troubleshooting, and many thanks for considering this! Edit: For additional information; the icon texture is labeled as iw_Vbldeshort_xxx, and they're in DDS format.
  15. Greetings, fellow Jedi! Hope y'all doing fine. I am here to ask for an assistance about: Is there any chance for custom music to be played at an exact cutscene in game? Edit: Not only cutscene to be exact; it will play along with the particular encounter and will stop soon as the encounter is done. And if it's possible; would ones mind explaining on how doing it? For an example; the tag of the music that would be playing is: mus_theme_legends Many thanks for considering this; and may the Force be with you!

This mod adds a head based on Kyle Katarn from the Jedi Knight series. The head itself is a heavily modified pmhc07 with a skin painted from scratch in a higher resolution. Installation: Press "Install Kyle Katarn.exe" and follow the instructions. Removal: Remove the relevant .mdl, mdx and .tga files and put back the .2da files stored in the backup folder _________________________________ I do not give permission for this mod to be reuploaded to other sites and/or sources without my knowledge.
  17. Hello! I'm new to the site and I'm new to modding, I've played kotor 1 and TSL for a few year's and I just got TSL on steam, I've been trying to make custom party member portrait's, I know you need to put them in the override folder but I'm not sure what size they need to be, I also don't know how to convert them to the .TGA format, help from experienced modder's and anyone who know's more about this stuff then me is welcome.
  18. Hey guys! I've got a bundle tutorial for you today. Although these two have nothing to do with each other, I wanted to bundle them together instead of just having two separate threads. Anyways, I'll be showing you two things for these tutorials: Creating a custom design with an armor plating for droids. Creating custom lightsabers that are also upgradeable. While everything is explained in these tutorials, I'll still try and put a little description for them here. For the first tutorial: In this video I'll be showing you how to put custom designs on droids via an armor plating, and appearance.2da. It's kind of hard for me to explain what exactly I mean, but have you ever wanted, say T3 to have a custom design when you equip a certain armor? Well, this will show you how. This applies to any droid, or well i guess any disguise. For the second tutorial: In this video I'm going to show you how to make custom Lightsabers for Kotor 1 and 2. Sorry if the tutorial kind of sucks at some points, I had to keep restarting certain parts because I messed up so much. Also, you don't have to listen to me about the whole "Don't use the same numbers that I use in my mod" I just say that so you can make yours compatible with mine. Anyways, hope this helps! Also, I follow the tutorial made by Achilles on how to create custom models for your lightsabers. I'll leave his text tutorial in case my video is too confusing (which it probably is). Achilles text tutorial: Resources that you will need to build your mod: • KotOR Tool – Used to locate and extract templates, models, and skins • GFF Editor – Program used to edit .uti (template) files. • Hex editor - used to modify .mdl (model) files. • Tpc2Tga.exe – Simple executable that will allow KT to automatically convert game images to convertible format • A file reference – used for identifying files in KT. I like to use http://www.goldensun-syndicate.net/kotor/codeFAQ.txt • Photoshop (optional) – used to modify game images such as saber color, robes, armor, etc. Files that you will need to extract using KT: *Note: xxx represents the model # Templates – Assign properties to the item(s). Use the file reference to determine what files you need. For instance g_w_sbrcrstl14 is the code for Blue Lightsaber Crystal. Knowing this information will help ensure that you extract the correct files. • g_w_sbrcrstlxx.uti <BIFs/templates.bif/g_w_sbrcrstxx.uti> • g_w_lghtsbrxx.uti <BIFs/templates.bif/g_w_lghtsbrxx.uti> Models – Used to render the image of your item in-game • w_lght_xxx.mdl <Bifs/items.bif/w_lght_xxx.mdl> • w_lght_xxx.mdx <Bifs/items.bif/w_lght_xxx.mdx> Images – used to skin the model in-game (ie they’re what make the blue lightsaber file appear as a blue lightsaber in your game) **Note: Rather than use the Extract button to save these files, you will double click them to open the Image Viewer window. Use the Write File button to extract the file to your save folder. ***Note: In KT open Tools<Options and set the program to automatically convert .tpc files to .tga format. Make sure that Tpc2tga.exe is in the same directory as KT for this to work. ****Note: If there are any “special instructions” in the Image Viewer window, you will need to copy them into a .txt file in your save folder. You will modify the format of this file later.
iw_sbrcrstl_xxx.tga <ERFs/texturepacks/swpc_tex_gui.erf/iw_sbrcrstl_xxx.tpc>
iw_lghtsbr_xxx.tga <ERFs/texturepacks/swpc_tex_gui.erf/iw_lghtsbr_xxx.tpc>-w_lsabre<color>01.tga <ERFs/swpc_tex_tpa.erf/w_lsabreturq01.tpc> Other Files
*Required* w_lsabre<color>01.txt – You should create this file in your save folder and copy the special instructions from w_lsabre<color>01.tpc into the body of the file. You will change this file later. *Optional* upcrsystals.2da <bifs/2da.bif/upcrystals> - This property table is used to make lightsabers upgradeable in-game. Although optional it is highly recommended that select this option. More details will be available later in this tutorial. How to build your lightsaber: Open GFF Editor and use File<Open to open g_w_sbrcrstlxx.uti. KT has it’s owned GFF Editor, but I’m used to using this one. Please note the following properties: • LocalizedName – this is the display name that the game uses when rendering your item in the gui (ie inventory screen). The # in STRREF box refers to the dialog.tlk file, but not to worry. Change this number to -1 and change Language to 0 and hit Enter. The box below should now be editable. Go ahead and enter a custom name for your crystal if you would like =) • ModelVariation - this number of the saber model. Referring back to our code resource, we see that the game already uses 01-19. You will need to pick a unique number between 20-99. *****Note: be sure that you do not use a number already taken by another mod that you plan on using. • Tag: change the number at the end of this name to the same number that you selected for ModelVariation • TemplateResRef: same steps as Tag
 • Save your file Open GFF Editor and use File<Open to open g_w_lghtsbrxx.uti • Follow the same process for LocalizedName, ModelVariation, Tag, and TemplateResRef as outlined above. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you create a custom name for your lightsaber. Not only does it help you identify it in your inventory, its fun! ##Note: It is very important that the unique number used for your crystal and the saber is the same (example 99) ####Note: This is also where you would modify the properties of your weapon, but that’s another tutorial. • Save your file Open your Hex editor and use File<Open to open w_lghtsbr_0XX.mdl. • BREATHE! • Use the Text Find function to locate the references to your w_lsabre<color>01 file. I usually look for “01” or the color (“blue, red, turq, etc) to ensure that I find it right away. • Very carefully change the 01 to 02 • There are 4 of these references. Find the other three and change them as well. ##Note: Double Bladed lightsabers will have 8 of these references. ###Note: changing only some of these references will result in a multi colored saber blade • Save your file Rename all of the files in your save folder, except w_lsaber<color>01.tga and w_lsaber<color>01.txt to reflect that model number that you selected. For example: • g_w_lghtsbrXX.uti => g_w_lghtsbr99.uti • g_w_sbrcrstlXX.uti => g_w_sbrcrstl99.uti • w_lghtsbr_0XX.mdl => w_lghtsbr_099.mdl • w_lghtsbr_0XX.mdx => w_lghtsbr_099.mdx • iw_sbrcrstl_XXX.tga => iw_sbrcrstl_099.tga • iw_lghtsbr_XXX.tga => iw_lghtsbr_099.tga Lastly, • Rename w_lsaber<color>01.tga to w_lsaber<color>02.tga (remember we changed the reference in the model using Hex editor) • Rename w_lsaber<color>01.txt to w_lsaber<color>02.txi (note that we changed the file extention here. You will receive an pop-up. Just click through it) All finished! Copy and paste all of these files into C:\Program Files\Lucas Arts\SWKotOR\Override, open your game, and enjoy =)
