  1. Greetings, fellow modders! As I sit at my computer editing various textures in Photoshop, I often discover some interesting techniques for upscaling the KotOR games' low resolution/compressed images, and I hope to share some of my experience here. Some of these techniques might also be accomplished using GIMP or any other image-editing software. Optionally, you may wish to extract the relevant model into a 3D package to preview your various changes. We will begin on T3-M4 to demonstrate the two most useful techniques: edge-redrawing and edge-smearing. Extraction/Setup Edge-Drawing Edge-Smearing Part II has been posted.
  2. In TSL, there is the Mandalorian shuttle that Mandalore uses to take you to Iziz. Does anyone know where I can find a HQ texture replacer for it because it is not looking too good?

  4. Hello, I have a problem with reading through the game the textures associated with characters Darth Bandon and his Sith Apprentices. The error is repeated during the game Brotherhood of Shadows, where Orion spirits have the same problem, mainly with their pants * _ *. I've tried a few modifications, and any duplicates the same problem. If anyone knows a good solution that I will be grateful. May the force be with us all

  7. This is a Tutorial I made back in the day for Lucas Forums. I have copied it here for new modders. This is how I maintain shadows in newly textured areas: Step 1: Open the file you want to work on (in this case P_BastilaBB01.tga). I usually save it right away as a Photoshop file, and rename it. Step 2: use the selection tools to outline the area you want to work on (see the dashed outline in the image above). Then create a new layer (for now it is called Layer 1 by default). Step 3: desaturate the new layer. This will make the layer appear as greyscale. Step 4: set layer 1’s Blend Mode to “Overlay”. This will make Layer 1 affect the layer directly below it. Now, the shadow areas will cause the layer below to become darker (aka “multiply”), and the highlight areas will cause the layer below to become lighter (aka “screen”). The closer to middle grey on this layer, the less the layer below is affected. Step 5: in order to increase the contrast, I usually use the Levels adjustment, so that I have a little more control. On the histogram in the middle, there are three sliders that control the Input Levels. By sliding the black one to the right, all the dark areas become darker. Sliding the white one to the left makes all the light areas whiter. When you slide the grey one to the left, more contrast. Slide it to the right, less contrast. Step 6: create any new texture you want on a new layer (in this case, a simple render clouds filter followed by the water paper filter). On its own, it looks fairly flat and lifeless. (I’ve also turned Layer 1 off for now.) Step 7: select the blank area of Layer 1. With this area selected, make Layer 2 active again. Then create a "Layer Mask". A layer mask controls layer transparency. Here you can see the layer mask as a little black & white picture next to the layer thumbnail. Basically, the white areas are 100% opaque (100% visible). The black areas are 0% opaque (0% visible). Any greys will be partially transparent. (Advanced: you can edit the mask by clicking on its thumbnail, and painting with white, or erasing with black.) Step 8: now that layer 1 is turned back on (renamed to Highlights & Shadows Layer) it will cause layer 2 (renamed to New Effect Layer) to have a little more three dimensionality instead of being relatively flat. Step 9: if the highlights and shadows seem too harsh or contrast, they can be readjusted using Levels again. Here, the bottom two sliders are used, and they change the Output Levels. As the black slider moves to the right, all the dark areas of the layer become more grey (lighter). Similarly, as the white slider moves to the left, all the white areas of the layer also become more grey (darker).
  8. File Name: Console M4-2K File Submitter: ndix UR File Submitted: 03 Jun 2016 File Category: Skins TSLRCM Compatible: Yes It's the console from M4-78. A high-res, animated take on the vanilla version. Includes an updated model for illuminated surfaces, non-mirrored screens, and restoration of two surfaces that were maybe originally intended to be screens but ended up as flat metallic surfaces. Also includes non-animated options. Knights of the Old Republic 2: TSL only. Click here to download this file
  9. File Name: Higher Quality Bastila File Submitter: Circa File Submitted: 22 Feb 2016 File Category: Skins K1R Compatible: Yes This is a fairly simple reskin of Bastila, to make her textures look a bit better quality. There are lots of great people that make amazing HD reskins of KOTOR models, but Bastila hasn't been done yet, so I figured I'd make a temporary skin for people to use until someone makes a better one. This isn't really "HD" in my opinion. It's not perfect, at all. Maybe I'll work on it more in the future. Credits: Bioware, Fred, etc etc etc. Installation: Put in the Override folder of your KOTOR install folder Click here to download this file
  10. Hi everyone! So as I guess you may be able to tell, I'm fairly new around here and the modding scene / community in general. I have however always wanted to do modding however, I've never had the equipment for it. But I have a computer now and thought "Why not?" However though as I have never created a mod before I have absolutely no idea how to do it and I know that I will have to start very basic, such as a texture mod or maybe a skin mod even. So I was wondering if anyone could help me out on how to do it, what programs would be needed and so forth. So if anyone did have any help that they could give, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
  11. I have an idea for reskins for the KotOR Games: What if people started including downscaled versions of their textures that would show when texture quality is adjusted in game? Would it be as simple as renaming .tga files to .tpa, .tpb, and .tpc files? This could be useful to ensure people with lower end computers could enjoy retextures with consistent texture resolution and without lag. Example: I have to turn down my graphics options down in the Jekk'Jekk' Tarr because the gas effects cause major lag. But, if I have a reskin for HK-47, he will look hi-rez compared to the rest of the scene and it might look weird. But if downscales were included, custom skins could blend in with the game for those with low-end hardware. I don't know if this will catch on, and I might just be super nitpicky, but it might be worth thinking about. Maybe super HD retextures could use this to provide regular HD and near HD options as well?
  12. So, I'm not really knowledgeable enough to tell you everything about TXI's, but I (THINK) I know enough to tell you guys about the basics of TXI files. I hope this is actually useful haha. My tutorials are ehh, so I hope this works haha.
  13. File Name: My Realistic Improved Effect Retexture Mod File Submitter: Malkior File Submitted: 20 Feb 2015 File Category: Mods TSLRCM Compatible: Yes This mod is a retexture of a majority of the effects for both Kotor 1 and Kotor 2. It basically started when I changed the spark texture, and then just kept on going. The mod assets are pretty simple to use, you just pick which texture you want to add to your game, and put them into your Override folder. The lightning has an alternate file in case you are interested in force lightning more akin to the movies (where it has no conjure animation) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pasted from Readme: {..) Description: This is a retexture of all of the effects in both Kotor games. It's simple in design, but has a huge impact on the look and feel of gameplay. Included are changes to the Sparks thrown when weapons impact enemies or walls, the lightning and drain effects, the fireball and ion explosion textures, the rain and snow textures in K2, the shape and size of the explosion particles, and an alternative texture to the mine detection overlay which makes them less like a bright red ball. {..>To Install: Drop all applicable files into the Override Folder. If you don't currently have an override folder, then you'll have to create one. I have separated the textures into corresponding folders for easier choice of what you would like to install The files are also separated by game, since Kotor 2 has rain and snow, while Kotor 1 does not. {..<To Uninstall, either remove or delete the files contained in this download from your Override folder. {..<Compatibility: This mod uses a few model .mdl and .mdx files in order to fully change the spark retexture. If you have any of them already in your override, they may conflict. {..>Possible Future Changes or Additions: I am considering changing the explosion animation file and if possible, the very structure of explosions. However, that will probably be a bit later after I have read more into the effects files. {..<Credits: Stevo and Rece for testing my Spark retexture to ensure compatibility, TriggerGod for his permission to use his lightning texture as a base Adobe for their Photoshop, Lucasarts as both Bioware and Obsidian for making the Kotor games, The very special community on DeadlyStream for their constant feedback and assistance, And lastly, George Lucas, for creating the Star Wars movies which has since spawned its ever expanding universe... 14. File Name: Kotor 1 Clothing Texture Enhancement File Submitter: Rece File Submitted: 16 Mar 2015 File Category: Skins Kotor Retextured Clothing I'm very proud to announce that Malkior, and I have teamed up to make this mod. Basically what this mod will do is replace all of the boring normal clothing/armor/robes from Kotor 1 and replace them with cooler textures, new stats for them, and other things. Just a heads up, some armors might look a little goofy, but I wanted to replace the boring stuff from the vanilla game I edited all of the textures, editing uti’s and collaborated with community members about certain things. Malkior extracted several files (robe files), edited the robes uti’s, and guided me through this very interesting first project (for me). This is my first mod, and I did this all on a Mac. See, Mac players can mod too I would like to thank those of you who suggested several textures, stats, and other things to help me out through this process. I’d like to thank forgetcanon for helping me through the process of getting Kotor Tool to work on my Mac. I’d also like to thank Malkior for guiding/helping me through my first mod, and not backing off even though I rushed him with the robes on my last day of editing (sorry). Finally, I’d like to thank Fair Strides for everything that he has done for me. Even though I’ve only known him for about a month, he’s helped me more than anyone else has with gaming. All of the armors and clothing replace the core games files. I adjusted the stats of every item (Except for clothing). I made it so that people would want to use the lighter armor, so be aware of the heavy armor. And by the way, there’s one armor that I purposefully made super over powered. It costs 100,000 credits, so be ready to spend some money. The codes for all of the armors are the same as the vanilla codes, so look them up. I didn’t replace the games core game robes. I placed them randomly through the game. Installation: Unzip all of the separate 7z files, and then place all of the files into the override. I really hope you guys enjoy this mod, be sure to make a review so that I can improve on anything! Click here to download this file
  15. Hey there everyone, in this tutorial I will be showing you how to make animated textures. I only went into one basic tutorial, because to do a million different ones would take forever. Anyways, if you need help with any animated texture, be sure to ask me as I can definitely (hopefully) help you out!!!
  16. TSL Clothing Texture Enhancement View File First of all: THIS IS TSLRCM/M4-78 COMPATIBLE (That's great news of course) Be sure to download every single file in the downloads! You don't want to miss out on all of the files! Hello there everyone! Guess what? I have another mod, third one this week. Now, then again these took a long time to do. Except since my internet was down for 4-5 days this week, I had a lot of time to work on this mod. What this mod does is replace the vanilla armors with new, HQ textures. This mod also (just like my K1 mod) replaces the stats to make you want to use the lighter armors. All of the armors and clothing replace the core games files. I adjusted the stats of every item (Except for clothing). I made it so that people would want to use the lighter armor, so be aware of the heavy armor. I'm really proud to say that I'm starting to work on more projects along with this one. The fact that I'm making these on a Mac make me want to keep making them, to "prove" to people that you can still mod on a Mac haha. The codes for all of the armors are the same as the vanilla codes, so look them up. I didn’t replace the games core game robes. I placed them randomly through the game. The codes for the robes (Although I'd prefer that you find them in their places inside of the game, are as follows: giveitem a_robe_50 (through) 60 Installation: Unzip all of the separate 7z files, and then place all of the files into the override. I really hope you guys enjoy this mod, be sure to make a review so that I can improve on anything! Submitter Rece Submitted 03/20/2015 Category Skins TSLRCM Compatible No
  17. File Name: Scoundrel Trousers File Submitter: darkbirdie File Submitted: 07 Apr 2015 File Category: Mods It is a truth universally yadda yadda: the lady Scoundrel's starting gear looks uncomfortable. Put bluntly, F!Scoundrel has a stupendous wedgie. Her butt crack is alarmingly defined through her leggings AND underwear--which should not be happening unless those leggings are, like, industrial-vacuum-sealed. Which would be painful. And impractical. And also painful. Overall, not conducive to running around an exploding starship while fighting Sith troopers. So I fixed it. I gave the female Scoundrel basic clothing a bit of a tune-up, making the butt crack less egregious and tweaking the texture to match. May these new and improved trousers bear your Scoundrels to a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing victory! Effusive burbling gratitude to forgetcanon, for extracting those pesky .mdl and .mdx files and for being a source of endless support and patience during my first foray into modding. 18. What do u think of this version [iGNORE GUN TEXTURE]... Do you think its...Yay...Nay...Noway
  19. I've been doing some random retexturing, mostly for myself as I get practice. First thing I've been doing is increase all textures to 1200 X 1200. Most re-works I've downloaded ended up being 512 X 512. So...what is the max resolution recommended? My 1200 X 1200 PC looks pretty awesome... Just wondering if it causes issues moving forward...
  20. This is where I learned how to do it: http://deadlystream.com/forum/topic/1626-transparent-character-issues-look-here/?hl=transparent Anyways, in this video I review the 2012 texture improvement mods for Kotor 1 by XediiXarwarz. But the main reason why I made this post is because some people aren't good at following picture and text instructions. So I made a video of how to do it step by step. Skip to 3:00 if you want to know how to fix the issue:
  21. So what is it? NFX - FX Texture Overhaul for TSL is my texture overhaul of all the effects in Kotor 2. This applies to effects such as muzzle flashes, lens flares, snowflakes, fire/smoke fx, explosions, etc. I will continue to update this thread with my progress with the project and identifying textures. Below is an example of a high resolution remade muzzle as well as flares. The result is reduced blur, improved detail. I am kinda cheesed that there were only a couple people who took a hit at the FX textures, and they were simply upscaled. Therefore I would like to finish this re-make of all the FX! The goal is to keep the vanilla feel, without modifying too many tones or colors, unless necessary. If you would like to collaborate or help out, please add me on skype - alinademelectro Screenshots below (bare in mind when I uploaded these I forgot about the alpha channels, future updates will look better, all alpha channels will be re-done) Also, anybody willing to shed some light on the description of the textures from FX and what they do in-game would be great, since the naming is strange, I would gladly appreciate it! Textures I have extracted the originals using KotorTool, under swpc_tex_tpa.erf "F" It's a bit tough because there's a lot of trial and error for me to discover which exact texture I'm editing in-game. Anyways, it's still very early but I wanted to let you guys know what I'm working on! Cheers! Project Updates 10/29/14 - Creating 2 versions, UltraHD (1K/2K textures), and a standard HD (1K/512) - No ETA thus far Identified Textures In-Game ~50%

  23. File Name: Holopanels File Submitter: InSidious File Submitted: 31 Mar 2013 File Category: Skins This mod replaces the standard, large computer panels with 'holographic' versions, inspired by the Mass Effect games. The textures are slightly animated, to create a 'static' effect. This mod does not affect the smaller computer panels, wall-mounted computer panels or the Rakatan computer model. Installation ------------ Put the two .tga files and two .txi files into your Override folder. Uninstallation -------------- Take them out again. Permissions ----------- This mod is to be distributed as-is without alteration, unless by permission of the mod author. This mod is not to be distributed for profit, either. Use it how you like, but if you're going to post it up somewhere, or make a derivate mod, or use it in another mod, you must ask me first. Thanks to: ---------- Fred Tetra for the truly awesome KotOR tool and his nwnsscomp conversion; Holowan in general for being helpful, friendly and all the rest of the good stuff it is ; KotORFiles, for being simply the best website in the history of the internet...Propaganda? What's that? ; Lucasarts and Bioware for KotOR, and Obsidian, too, for TSL, without which, I couldn't have made this . Click here to download this file
