  1. I can't sleep, so:

What if?... My prediction/wishlist for the rest of Star Wars: Rebels Season 2 (Which I'm completely making up)

Alright, so Ahsoka states in this trailer that to defeat their enemy, Ezra and crew will have to get to know the way they think. To Ezra & Kanan (light Jedi) and Ahsoka (light/grey Jedi) this would mean that they'd have to learn about the dark side of the force. Of course, they can't just pick the next intergalactic bus to Vader's Star Destroyer to ask him about the Dark Side of the Force, as that would mean their certain doom. Instead of this, they turn to their only other option: history. Through some way (either the teachings of Ahsoka and lessons she learned in the gap between TCW and Rebels or some other unknown intel) they learn about the history of the conflicts between Jedi and Sith and with it the location of an ancient Sith academy somewhere in the Outer Rims where there are sure to be holocrons containing knowledge of the dark side.

The Jedi Trio, being Ahsoka, Kanan and Ezra, begin their search and are followed by Darth Vader and his inquisitors because he sure isn't going to let the loose ends that are Ahsoka and her pupils out of his eye. After a search through several systems they finally find the right planet and set foot on the planet we all know so well: Malachor V, location of the Great Scourge and the Sith Academy. They find the Academy and Ezra touches a pillar, which prompts the academy to awaken and open. Unbeknownst to them the inquisitors, who are scouting ahead, land on the planet and move to the entrance. There they find the trio about to enter the Academy and a fight ensues. After a lightsaber battle, the trio is able to enter the Academy, and close the door behind them. The trio is trapped inside and the inquisitors have to wait for Darth Vader to land. While they receive their master the trio is able to find a room in which they meditate on the nature of the force, maybe Ahsoka can explain her neutral/gray views. As soon as Vader and his companions enter the Academy the spirits of the Jedi who fell (who apparently all wore the same white uniform in the war) at the Scourge of Malachor arise and start attacking the evil they died fighting, Vader sets his inquisitors on them and continues to explore the temple by himself, alone. The trio flees but lose each other because of all the commotion, from now on they will have to find their own way through the temple.

So now we have the three main force-sensitive characters in Rebels and a frikkin' Sith Lord on themselves in an ancient Sith Academy. I think it would be cool if they all take something different away from the experience. Perhaps they all learn something about their respective side (Kanan: light, Ahsoka: grey, Ezra: dark) After exploring for a while Kanan has a vision of an ancient Jedi (a certain general maybe?) which takes place in an ancient jedi training room. He explains to Kanan the history of the Jedi and the way of the light side. Besides this he states that he can feel the pull the dark side has on Kanan's apprentice and warns him. After this warning he summons two other jedi and throws Kanan an extra (red?) lightsaber, the four of them spar with the goal of training Kanan and letting him prove his worth as a jedi.

Meanwhile Ahsoka is on her own exploring the temple as well. She comes to a meditation room and falls to her knees when she suddenly hears the voice of someone she hasn't heard of in a long time: Anakin Skywalker, her former master. This can either be the Sith Academy playing with her mind, or the thoughts of the real Darth Vader reaching her as he's exploring the temple in solitude as well. She contemplates the differences between herself and her master and the dark and light side and continues her journey to the center of the Academy, where the Holocrons lie.

At the same time Ezra is on himself exploring another side of the temple, and he comes to a place where he finds a lightsaber half buried in the sand. He switches it on and it turns out to be an ancient lightsaber last used during Old Republic, so the design is ancient. Whose lightsaber it is is anyone's guess. It could be Darth Revan's, the Exile's, random Joe Schmoe's etc. If you really want to have some fun you could say that this is the lightsaber that Kylo Ren will base his lightsaber design on. Moving along, Ezra feels the pull of something powerful more and more, after following it he comes to a giant chamber containing holocrons filled with ancient Sith knowledge, the reason they came to the planet in the first place. Just as he moves to pick up one of the holocrons he hears a voice behind him and turns around to see a cloaked figure in the room, the one Sith lord that the Star Wars saga kind of forgot: Darth Maul. After the ending of the Clone Wars, Maul went on the run to the Academy he learned about in his teachings from Palpetine: the ancient Sith academy on Malachor. He recognizes a need for knowledge of the dark side in Ezra and he offers to teach him about it, as he has been studying them for more than a decade. This is actually a pretty brilliant move of the makers of the series (if they do this, that is) because it accomplishes two things:
    - It fixes the loose threads left hanging after the cancellation of TCW containing the resurrection of Maul with no catharsis in the end.

    - It gives Ezra a teacher who knows a lot about the dark side but has no stake in turning him to Vader or the Empire.

Kanan, Ahsoka, Vader and the Inquisitors arrive at the central hall as well and from there on the script contains a lot of "They fight." (To quote George Lucas in the making of Ep. III).

The season ends with Ezra being Maul's new apprentice and on his way to the dark side, Vader recognizing the danger of another Sith Lord opponent, Ahsoka and Kanan being on a quest to save Ezra and redeem him. Ahsoka already saw her master turning and knows that it is a one-way street. Kanan doesn't want to see his teachings fail his student, mirroring how Obi-Wan felt his teachings failed Anakin.

And on that note we begin the excruciating wait to Season 3.

  2. The real issue of bringing in Legends material is which material exactly. It's not as if there's a great deal of consensus on which bits of the EU were good and bad...

Well, TOR was always in a state of limbo, with Kotor I and II being in a state of limbo by extension. They can just pick and choose the good things.

Heck, if they only use certain characters and locations they won't even have to go in detail as it has been millennia since then, they wouldn't even have to refer to them by name.

    For example:

Darth Revan: he was a great jedi war hero who fought both on the light and dark side of the force

Malachor: Here was an ancient battle between mandalorians (seen in the Clone Wars already) and jedi, a lot of people died.

Exile: a general in the wars

Or they could be a vision.

Yeah, that's what I meant by the jedi who died at Malachor. A vision of them. Because they lived and died thousands of years ago.

I'm more curious as to why a Jedi Council member (Colema Kcaj) is still unaccounted for. Seems like an important person to lose track of, especially since we know jack about him.

I'm sorry, but who?! Wookieepedia has almost no info about him?

  3. (can we not discuss whether we liked TFA or not in this thread though, because then the same thing that happened there will happen here >_<)

You can say that again ;)

Well with Rakata Prime being canon now, those ships looking mighty like hammerheads, it looks like they are prepping for that. Tieing Revan into the main canon would be fantastic in my opinion, but also for the franchise because Revan is an immensely popular character.

And they can absolutely do a selective canon here, by virtue rendering the horrific TOR non-canon

Don't know if I'd call it fantastic as I wouldn't know what they'd do with him/her, but it'd be cool in a way. We also see Ezra getting a green crossguarded saber, similar to Kylo Ren's. We know Ren's lightsaber is based on an ancient design reminiscent of the lightsabers used by the jedi in the Great Scourge of Malachor (hint TSL hint). I think it's a safe guess that the lightsaber Ezra is holding in the trailer is an ancient saber from the Old Republic, that, or he constructed another one but why would he do that?

Anyone have any idea who all those faceless masked jedi are in the white clothing? My guess is they are either an order of grey jedi to which Ahsoka belongs to OR (tieing in with the green Old Republic lightsaber we see in the trailer) they are some of the jedi who died at the destruction of Malachor.

Now that I think of it, this would be a fun idea. I'm going to ponder on it some more and then I'll post a what if?/Prediction of the next half of this season.

  4. "There's always a bit of truth in Legends"

As in "Star Wars Legends" aka the previous EU that went into the bin?

I'm now seriously considering that they'll bring parts of KotOR into the current canon! Not everything, mind you, but I can see the character Darth Revan being referred to or something.

    A man can dream...

Also spotted Maul at 2:22, maybe he'll turn Ezra to the dark side?

  5. he intentionally copied ANH plot points... what more is their to say? That JJ lacks creativity??

Yes, so you've said, but "reusing" a plot point (punctation marks because it's in an entirely different context, with different characters and in a different place in the timing of the movie) is not "copying a whole story", as you claim.

You're abstracting both stories to the point they look like each other, but the thing is, you can do that with any story in the saga.

Using your logic I could claim both TFA and ANH are filthy unoriginal rip-offs because they both utilize the hero's journey story structure by Joseph Campbell. It's ridiculous.

    the proofs in the pudding

So you've said a couple of times in this thread, but repeating it won't add any value to your argument.

  6.

hes upset because JJ admitted TFA was ANH rip off after he'd spent weeks arguing it wasn't... the proofs in the pudding.

your article still says he intentionally copied ANH lol...

I don't think anyone ever argued that TFA didn't use a lot of elements from the original trilogy. I believe consensus is that he uses plotpoints but in new ways and with new characters. In that article JJ also never states that he copied ANH piece for piece but that he wanted to make a movie that felt familiar to introduce new characters before they went on to other subjects, which we'll see in the next movies.

    You cant argue the facts

This is a bit dramatic, don't you think? As I explained above your interpretation of what Abrams is not exactly what he said. You either jump to conclusions too quickly or you don't explain why you came to the conclusion you are at right now. Don't do the first and try to do the latter.

  7. someone told me that if I uninstalled the restored content mod I would have to uninstall the game (TSL) and reinstall it befor I install the mod agin but I do not know what a game (TSL) is or how to install it can someone please help me out?

Uhm... are we sure this isn't a parody or something?

TSL is the game KotOR 2 The Sith Lords, you know, the game for which the mod TSLRCM was made?

  8. yes, lets get back to discussing all of the EU content JJ ripped of to make his rehash of ANH

Now this is just petty. It's fine if you don't like it but don't bash the others who do. Dickmove to be honest.

    Speaking of ripping of:

Two siblings of which one goes dark and evil

    Fatherless birth

Powerful object that helps trump all opposition

I now of course expect you to be angry of the fact that nothing is original in Star Wars and they all ripped off the Bible

    /s

  9. KOTOR1 used the SF from the start though (Republic is falling, Sith have unlimited resources, how did this happen, all is lost if nothing changes, FIX IT).

Compare that to "LOL, Superweapon" in TFA.

Also KOTOR was fine since it was, well, the first...

KotOR wasn't the first to reuse the "Superweapon" idea in the EU and it certainly won't be the last. I don't see why KotOR or ROTJ get a pass for this.

@ 1Leonard: Okay, without reading anything, tell us why the Republic and Resistance are seperate. How did the First Order rise to power. How did a Sith Lord exist besides Sideous and Vader. What exactly transpired that lead to the victory of VI going back to the galaxy situation of IV?

This kind of scrutiny can be applied to all of the Star Wars movies.

What exactly is the trade federation and how does this work in the context of the galactic republic?

Is it known that the droid army is their's and if so, why aren't they just expelled?

How does Padme's royalty work exactly? She can give up being a queen to become a senator?

Why did Obi-Wan Kenobi hide by only changing his first name?

Why did the building of the first Death Star take 18 years when the second could be pumped out in just a couple?

How is the Force referred to as an ancient religion when there were lots of jedi running around up to 20 years before IV?

However, ask yourself if knowing the answers to these questions would have an influence on the plot. I don't see how they would. Sure it's nice to know that trivia, but it can also bog the movie down a lot. The prequels had a habit of telling you what happens instead of showing you or letting you experience it for yourself.

Besides, this is the first movie of a trilogy, it's not a self-contained movie like the original Star Wars was. naturally it raises questions that'll only be answered in the coming movies.

And yes, Midichlorian are still stupid as idea. And to finish it off, sadly, TOR is still cannon even when KOTOR1 and KOTOR2 are not. So very sad.

Is this relevant to anything I said? No Idea, honestly.

TOR is not canon, it's in a status of canon limbo which is a fancy way of EA to state that they don't want to say that it's non-canon because they're afraid of losing subscribers. As soon as it's discontinued they'll probably state that it's non-canon.

  10.  a copy and paste of EP. 4 plot

There were similarities, yes. Perhaps a bit too much for your taste, that's fine. But that's not something which is new to Star Wars. If you subscribe to the Star Wars Ring Theory you'll see that the prequels for example have reused plot details, plot points, and scenes from the OT, sometimes up to a fault. Besides, you can't say VII is a carbon copy of IV, there are still a lot of differences. If you look at the characters for example, they are very different to the universe (humanized stormtroopers, bad guy is an unsure and starstruck youth, finn is a traitor to his own faction and teachings) and fulfill a different role in the movie. Some recycled plot points don't immediately mean it's bad.

I mean, KotOR I reuses a lot of plot points and character traits from the original trilogy as well (giant superweapon capable of destroying the universe, tall bad guy with a breathing problem, council with a yoda figure, fastest ship in the galaxy, scoundrel with a wookiee friend, pc makes a journey akin to Luke's, but with a twist etc.) , doesn't mean it's bad.

, the movie does not stand on its on (to fully understand everything that has happened, you need to read other material).

why do you keep saying this? The movie did fully stand on its own, I haven't read any other material and I understood it perfectly well. Maybe you didn't understand it, but don't try to present that as fact. Please don't speak for everyone.

much like the prequal haters who try and claim they are the worst films in history when it is not

Again, you keep saying this, and it's just not true. People claim the prequels are bad not because of their ideas, but because of their execution. They are just badly made movies and I have given several examples of why they are throughout this thread.

  11. That's why I used the word 'relatively'. Of course there were mistakes, flaws, things that were downright laughable. Nevertheless, chucking the baby out with the bathwater was IMO a mistake because whilst all of the EU content is still there to draw upon as you say

Can see where you're coming from but good and bad are kind of subjective in this case. Who should have made the decision on what to keep and what to throw away?

in practice however, I doubt that they will use much of it.

People in this thread have been getting mad because TFA reused some plot points found in the EU (Han and Leia having a kid who goes dark) :)

It's already happening, it'll probably happen again.

I think that people will always find a way to reincorporate good ideas.

  12. You read into my post whatever you like, all I can say is that I haven't even the faintest whiff of anger at the current predicament, more like disappointment. FYI I don't need your 'credit', don't patronise me, this was the holier than thou (arrogant) attitude that HH referred to earlier.

If I'm honest you're both kind of being dickish to each other. everyone is

I'm expressing my disappointment at the current situation. Is my rhetoric colourful? Yes of course, it is a reflection of what I feel is a mistake for the SW franchise. My issue with the EU being (decanonised?) is that whilst of course it is still enjoyable, it no longer fits into a relatively cohesive whole which other writers could draw upon. In its current state, it is little better than fan-fiction.

Honestly, that cohesive whole was a pretty messy place in practice. Sure you had some diamonds, but most of it was mediocre, which was probably why Disney just cut it all out to replace it with something that's a little better. I expect the "new" EU to still be cohesive, there has been no clue to suggest otherwise. It's not like new writers can't draw upon the new stuff. Heck, they can even draw upon the old, not literally referring to the characters but they can revisit and expand upon their ideas and themes.

  13.

Rehash: reuse (of old ideas or material) without significant change or improvement. A worthy premise of my description of CLONE! No no no, the EU does not only refer to what is after ROTJ, but everything outside the movies, tv-shows etc. If what they did was merely dispose of the EU following ROTJ then that would have been upsetting, but far more manageable than what they have perpetrated upon SW fans now. They have removed all EU! So all the great Old Republic stories too, even though they're not likely to touch that era again. All I can say is that they better make damn good movies to justify this devastation and so far, I have been disappointed. No you didn't say all SW fans, but you didn't need to because you didn't (until now) make the distinction. You implied most SW fans were like the way you described all the way until now.

You're acting as if Disney personally invaded your house, removed all your EU comics and stories, piled them up and burned them. The old EU isn't removed, it's just not canon anymore. The good will still be enjoyed. The (very) bad will still be laughed at.

"You SW-fans are a disgrace. If you don't like this movie I hate you!"

I highly doubt anyone said that.

  14. It's cool guys. Honestly I will reserve judgement for when I actually see this "sequel" (I know, a bit shocking to be on a spoiler thread..) I hear great things from some people about the quality, and if the movie can stand on its own, then I applaud that.

However, I am going to be honest with you guys, at this point prior to watching this, as a direct sequel, I think this movie honestly shouldn't exist in my opinion.

If it reuses the plot of the first breakout Star Wars film but has to hold onto what made the films so popular, (lightsabers, X-Wings, certain doom by galaxy killing weapon), then all of those are to its detraction. (Lest we forget what happened to the Terminator storyline..)

I would much prefer a "spiritual successor" to Star Wars, where everything from the theme to the characters are drastically different, yet it takes key events from the previous films and gives them a new or fresh prespective.

However, my opinion is simply my expectations for my idea of an appropriate film. It would be far more reasonable, as far as I'm concerned that others don't assume just because people disagree with decisions of the movie that automatically they are blinded by nostalgia.

Honestly, I think this movie could stand on it's own.

There are a couple of throwbacks for nostalgia's sake, but the characters are new and very interesting, I think.

I don't really see how including a lightsaber in Star Wars (Who'd have thunk it) would be to its detraction?

And here I thought this would be a fun and engaging conversation about plot theories and where people think the rest of the trilogy is headed...

We're all Star Wars fans, it's why we can't have nice things ;)
