SITH BASE Complete Overhaul (Taris & Manaan) 3.1

About This File

This is the next part of an ongoing series.

The purpose of this mod is to bring the much more up-to-date design choices from SWTOR to Kotor. All textures have been made from scratch.

The Overhaul also contains sophisticated Mass Effect 3 orientated high Quality animations.

Update 3.0 out now! Safe to upgrade from 1.0 - and for those who downloaded 1.0 i highly recommend to get 3.0 since the difference is huge.

This is a huge one - to catch the flair of SWTOR all animations have been redone from scratch again - the floor now contains cubemap based reflections & scratches.

Further a new kolto animation & a HQ metalic tech texture have been implemented.

Installation:

Download the file, extract its contents with an archive extraction tool such as 7zip or WinRAR, then move the contents to your game's override directory

Compatibility:

This mod uses cubemaps, so there could be minor incompatibilites with mods that uses custom cubemaps too. ( but i actually dont know any mod that does that)

Just to be on the safe side, i recommend to install my mod last.

Beside that it should be compatible with everything that doesnt retexture the Sith Bases either at Taris or Manaan.

Credits:

I want to thank Darth Sapiens for his wonderful Cubemap-Ressource pack, which enabled me to do a lot of things that would otherwise been not possible.

I also want to thank Xarwarz for using the hex edited mdl & mdx files from his Overhaul. That allowed me more variety on my panel retextures.

Does this retexture the leviathan as well

I just checked and it does retexture most of the Leviathan, except for a few things:

The doors and a texture above the doors are the only missing textures I could find in a quick running around of the levels.

I warped to lev_m40ad and I'm not sure if there's an exterior of the Leviathan you walk to in a space suit (like on Peragus in KOTOR 2) I haven't been able to go outside of lev_m40ad due to the fact that I warped there, so I don't even know if you can exit to an exterior. I played through the game many times but I can't remember. (it keeps saying that I require a spacesuit)  So I don't know if there are any missing textures there.

Then there are a few textures that are shared between planets/levels that are also vanilla.

Does anyone know what .tga or .txi files are used for the Force Cage effects? It's the one thing I'd like to have in KOTOR II to replace that ugly, over-bright vanilla effect.

The animations and other little details are amazing, the dark illumination is nice but for my taste the general result is a little too much dark grey. Anyway is a great work.

It's annoying that there isn't easy directions to install included with the MOD. It has cost to me some time understand how install correctly, moreover with a third program needed that people, like myself, do not use and do not know how it works, so I had to risk a little bit (btw, the video of the included link is useless, above all if english is not native language).

I think it can still be helpful so I'll describe how I got it (of course, first of all, you have to download and install XnView if you don't have it):
1- Unzip all 9 parts of the downloaded MOD in their own folder.
2- Copy/Paste (or drag and drop) all the unzipped files from folder 1 and 2 to your KotOR\Override folder.
3- (for simplify) put together all the unzipped files of the folders 3 to 9 in a same folder (obviously, neither folder 1 nor folder 2).
4- Start XnView, the leftmost button is the Browser with wich you have to search the folder where you have placed together the unzipped files of folders 3 to 9. Open the folder and you must see ALL the files placed in the main part of the screen. Select ALL the files (dragging the mouse, Caps+End... anyhow ALL must stay selected).

5- Right click with the mouse on the files (be sure ALL the files are selected) and in the options shown choose and click the market with the hot key "Ctrl+U".

6- In the new window that appears you must indicate the path of your own KotOR\Override folder, the correct format of the files (TGA) and choose "Replace".
7- Click "Go" button, wait a little and you're ready.

Enjoy the MOD

I've followed step by step your tutorial  mod. When i enter to the sith base,  it hasn't walls and floor. Maybe, do you know the main reaseon?

I have one thing different to your tutorial: My XnView is a MP version not a classic version. I thing it's not important, but maybe yes.

After all if you don't know why it's happen, how can I uninstall the mod? The only way is recover by "override" folder backup? Can I elimiate every file manually?

Thanks for all

(gràcies per tot si ho llegeixes).

Hi Guille

I don't know what can be the reason. Have you other MODs installed that could affect the graphics? After Googleing a bit I don't think is due to the different versions of XnView. It looks like some files are missing or not well installed. Some error downloading the nine parts or unzipping them? Are you sure that all the files stayed selected while working with XnView? Have you tried to install it again?

I did not get to try to uninstall it never but as this MOD is based in add new files and (I assume) overwrite others I think there is no an easy manner to uninstall it. Yes, you could erase one by one all the new files of the Override folder belonging to the MOD but if the MOD has overwritten any you should have backups of the overwriten ones. Aside, using this line of action (erasing files to uninstall) I had a bad experience with another MOD that let me the Hawk with the aspect of a Gold Ingot... Best of all is if you have a backup of the entire Override folder.

I'm sorry for cannot be more helpfull.

mmm...

I don't see in this page so must be in other page of other MOD of the same author that indicates using XnView because, if you do not, can appear some graphic glitch or is not shown correctly due the files are not "converted".

I'd suggest make a backup of the Override folder and install it again to see what happens.

Anyway, glad to read that, at least, now you see where you step...

(Quan vaig instal.lar XnView vaig veure que tenia l'opció de posar-lo en Català. I no sovinteja ;). No vaig ser conscient de les captures fins que vaig publicar el post :w00t:)

PS: You're welcome :)

Great job on retexturing the game but it gets annoying if you have to convert the file yourself as a user.

As a modder, you can make it easier for other users by converting the TGAs from your side and make it available for others who doesn't have the knowledge in modding games. It is technically the same installing method as you do it yourself by converting the files from the user side just an extra step for users.

It'll be just 1 less steps for users if you help others by helping yourself to convert the files beforehand.

I'm not sure it the site allow this but you can put a single link to your download page where your mods are compiled together especially big files into a single zip. This way it is less confusing to follow instructions.

Note to anyone who's using the Steam version of the game: skip the XnView part and just put everything from both folders into your Override folder. Whatever XnView is needed for is already pre-done to the game's graphics in the Steam version. If you're not using the Steam version, this doesn't apply to you.

Looks amazing, my only criticism would be to change the colors for the "Sith base" on Taris. As it's known that it was a Republic Base that was taken over by the sith when they conquered the planet. So it would be really cool it's possible to recolor the taris base to have some republic (ish) colors at least partially.
