THE UPDATE IS FOR STEAM USERS, PLAYING THE ASPYR VERSION IN 2K.

Title: Widescreen UI Fix for Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords

--------------------------------------------------

Special Thanks to the following individuals:

Alien - For the original version of the 16x9 mod, without which none of this would have happened.
tk102 - Since GFFEditor broke stuff and KGFF saved the day, teekay deserves some recognition for his awesome (TSL-friendly) tool.

As you can see, Alien's work is remarkable. Unfortunately, v.1 has some issues with the Actions UI in the lower left (mines and force form are borked, and the action description hovers over the menus rather than displaying above, making the arrows a pain to use).

After some digging around, I was able to fix these issues and am releasing the fix with Alien's permission.

What's New in Version 4.1   See changelog

Released

  • v4.1
  • Readded v3 as an download option for GOG users

  • v4.0
  • Support for 2k
  • Mostly left the main UI alone except to fix a bug with action bar description
  • Most of the extent of the new mod can be seen in the menus, where UI elements have been resized for consistency or to resolve skewing caused by upscaling from 800x600.

  • -New in 3.0
  • * For 1920x1080: The UI has been been completely re-written. Alien's original version with all fixes up to 2.02 is included in this download. Players with 16x9 should install either 3.0 or 2.02, but not both.
  • * For 1680x1050: Gameplay buttons have been consolidated (I really liked how this turned out in the new 16x9 version and applied the changes here as well). A bugfix has also been applied that resizes and relocates the level-up and debilitated decals for Char1 party member avatar.

  • -Fixes in v2.02
  • * Fixed issue where Item Lost indicator was placed in the same location as the Alignment Shift indicator. This fix is only recommended if you are using the 16x10 version of the mod.

  • -Fixes in v2.01
  • *Fixed issue where down arrow for the personal shield action button was placed in the same location as the up arrow. This fix is only recommended if you are using the 16x10 version of the mod.

  • -Fixes in v2.0
  • * Support for 16x10 resolution (optimized for 1680x1050)
  • * "bark bubble" will now appear when mini-map is disabled (both 16x9 and 16X10).

  • -Fixes in v1.54
  • * Resized NPC name and health bars to correct 16x9 dimensions.
  • * Resized all minimap elements to correct 16x9 dimensions.
  • * Applied all 1.1 and 1.4 fixes to "clean" download of Alien's original .gui file in order to resolve character portrait issue introduced in v.1.4 (caused by me monkeying around, trying to make it pretty for 16x10)

  • -Fixes in v1.4
  • * Bug that inaccurately displayed enemy health has been fixed.
  • * Buff decal for 3rd party member's avatar was set to the incorrect height and would not display
  • * Nav arrows for passive Jedi powers were not set to the same height as all other Action Buttons.

It would seem that this mod is now obsolete. The recent re-release of TSL for Mac, Linux, and Steam users includes native widescreen support, complete with a properly scaling UI.

I don't have the Steam version or a 16x9 monitor. Several people tested this before it was released and out of 39k downloads, no one has reported a problem. Please PM screen shots and details if you would like a response. In the meantime, I'm contacting the admins to have the "broken" flag removed.

Since I can't edit:

BTW, don't forget that the steam version now has native widescreen support. So if you're trying to play with a new version of the game, you're trying to apply widescreen settings to a game that already has widescreen settings....which might make it "look really weird".

Not sure why this was reported broken; the file downloads just fine. I've contacted the moderators to have the flag removed.

Link is broken at least for me, I can download anything from the site with no issue but this one doesn't seem to work : the file is 0kb, and I'm unable to open it. Since I have the original 4CD version, it is the onlt way for me to have the game on widescreen. I hope you will fix this soon. Thanks. :)

Is anyone else getting lots of options saying either 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x1024? It doesn't allow me to go beyond 1280x1024 and my computer is most definitely 1920x1080. Any solution(s)?

Hey Achilles, I'm now updating my game from v3.0 of this mod to v4.0 (I'm using the GOG version), and I notice that the new version no longer contains the 'pause_p.gui' and 'barkbubble_p.gui' files from 3.0.

Should i delete the 'pause_p.gui' and 'barkbubble_p.gui' files from my install, if I'm updating to v4.0?

I can't speak for the GOG version but the Steam version has a pretty clean UI that makes most of the work in my previous versions obsolete. Barkbubble and pause look fine in the vanilla game and are therefore untouched in v4.

v4 mostly exists to clean up the one description hover that was missed in the Steam version and to address the other menus that the Aspyr either missed or didn't think worth their time.

All that aside; it shouldn't hurt anything to leave them in if you like them :)

Hi Achilles, So i've done a fresh install of TSL to test out v3.0 and v4.0 separately, with Clonegizka’s “Improved Widescreen Experience 1.0.0” mod (https://deadlystream.com/files/file/839-improved-widescreen-experience/) installed before, so your mod overwrites any of their files when needed (as they recommend on their mod page).

Unfortunately, it looks as though v3.0 is better for GOG players, as the v4.0 files stretch out the HUD. Unlike the Steam version, the GOG version didn’t get the Aspyr widescreen support update, so I'm guessing this has something to do with the issue seen below. GOG Players are patching widescreen support in manually (I’m using the "UniWS" software, to enable widescreen support for the GOG version).

Here is the HUD and Menu, running with v3.0 of your mod on the GOG game. with the older v3.0 installed, the HUD and UI are scaled correctly for widescreen:

Are here is v4.0. Unfortunately on the GOG version, both the HUD and eqippped items in the menu are stretched out:

I’ve also attempted to first install Clonegizka’s “Improved Widescreen Experience 1.0.0”, then the v3.0 files of this mod, then finally the v4.0 files. But unfortunately that has the same stretching effect seen above. So v3.0 appears to be working for GOG, not v4.0. I'm guessing this is because v4.0 is built around the Aspyr widescreen support update for TSL that is only on Steam.

Would it be possible to have a separate option for GOG players to download the v3.0 files, especially as Alien's original mod has now also been removed (the original download link has been deleted from the Steam discussion page)? I have the v3.0 files backed up for the time being, but it would be great if it was also an option on your page to download the v3.0 files as well!

Thank you!

Yeah, @BarnzyBobble were right about the GOG's stretching. And if there's one specific file be consider to restore is mipc28x6.gui. I replaced the v4.0's one with the former/v3.0[?], and it's back to how it should. Though, I left the equip screen [and rest of others except the said one earlier] that changed by the latter version because it works for me. The "zoomed-in" UI for the item's icon shown bit more details - granted, it noticeably stretched.

Nevertheless, much thanks for the improvement this mod brings. Can't imagine myself for not using this.

Editjust noticed that there are gaps that should connect the UI with the frame using v4.0 [for GOG users]. So a rollback option would be much appreciated here.

Edit2disregard. There's an option to download the earlier version just above the Changelog section. Pardon my peon-incompetency, hahah.

Edit3: apparently a rollback to v3.0 doesn't help much if v4.0 had already installed. What [GOG] users need to do is to DL clonegizka's mod [as attached a post earlier] and then overwrite changes made by this version.

Good to know. I'll put 3.0 back up for GOG users.

Thanks for the heads up

@ebmar: yes, almost everything the player sees when they aren't in a menu is mipc28x6. Since the Aspyr release fixes the gui stretching in the steam version, there wasn't anything to do there in v4 besides fix that one hover description element. Overriding the 3.0 version will basically just give the player the vanilla GUI.

Thank you!  This makes widescreen not suck.  I have a 16:10 aspect ratio lcd panel, and this looks good enough (even though it's meant for 16:9).  I'm using the GoG version.

I wanted to be absolutely sure that I am installing this correctly, so here is what I did. I have the Steam version of Kotor 2 installed.

I installed this mod first: Improved Widescreen Experience - Mods - Deadly Stream

Then, I downloaded the Steam version of this mod, made a backup of equip_p.gui, deleted the equip_p.gui file in the override folder, and then moved the files from the mod folder over to the override folder. Did I install this correctly?
