JC's Player Soundset Restoration for K2 1.0

About This File

Summary

In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the player, like all party members, would occasionally say things during combat and when performing other actions.
In the second game, however, the player is mute.

This mod restores the player soundset for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords.

The critical files needed for the original player soundset to function were actually always there, but they were in various states of disuse. This mod fixes them up and restores the player's voice. There are different soundsets for male and female players and they are the same ones as in the first game.

Installation

  1. Run Player_Soundset_Restoration.exe.

Uninstallation

  1. Remove the installed files.

Compatibility

This mod must be installed before any mods that patch soundset.2da. This mod does not use TSLPatcher to patch soundset.2da; it uses a hard 2DA install because the exact line numbers are necessary for the player soundset to work. It feels dirty, but I have to do it.

Guys, does this mod work with TSLRCM 1.8.5? The readme says to install it first, because of the hard soundset.2da install, but from what I know TSLRCM does hard file overwrites upon installation. Has anyone tried the two together?

The readme doesn't say to install before TSLRCM. It shouldn't make a difference in this case, but generally TSLRCM should be installed before other mods. They are compatible.

I've gotten mixed reports about that. I can't make any promises, but I do intend to look into the audio formats further.

Jesus, i am idiot. It seems that the problem is not in the aspyr version, I install VO after m4-78 and soundset.2da has not changed.😐 So, VO not compatible with m4-78ep?

The female player soundset lacks those barks. I'm not sure why, but it's an issue with the original K1 soundset.

Slightly clearer instructions would be welcome, but great stuff overall.

It doesn't work if installed BEFORE M4-78. That one overrides it.

I tried with M4-78 and they don't work together.

which strings did you add?

Nevermind, this should be enough of a compatibility patch.

I wasn't aware of the issue with M4-78. I'm assuming M4-78 adds a few soundsets and doesn't patch them for whatever reason. But it can't be using the two needed for the player character or everybody would've noticed that long ago, so the problem should be avoidable. I'll take a look when I get a chance.

Was there ever a definitive solution to this not working with the steam version? I don't have m478 (Browsing the other comments that might be one issue?)

I don't believe it was ever confirmed that there is a problem with the Steam version. I don't have the game on Steam, but Aspyr recently made their 1.0b update available on GOG.com as well, and I noticed no issues testing there.

Where would I put the files and how? Because I think I've tried all I can think of and can't get it.

You shouldn't put them anywhere. TSLPatcher installs the files to the correct location when run.

You know what, I think I was so caught up on trying to download other mods that I didn't really pay that much attention to it. But as of today, I came back to it and downloaded it correctly. Kept skipping over the extract button lmao.
