K1 Better Twi'lek Male Heads 1.3.2

About This File

This mod intends to address key issues with male Twi'lek heads in KOTOR I, most notably the addition of ear geometry.

Both the ear meshes and textures included in this mod are modified ports from SWTOR, which improve ear shape and texture quality. Additional improvements include better smoothing groups, non-clipping teeth and eyelids, and recolored tongues.

There are two options for installation. Option A models feature "slim" necks, while Option B models retain unaltered "blubber" necks. I highly recommend the first option as it fixes clipping with heavy armor collars, but feel free to choose the second if you prefer that look. There are no other differences between the two.

Given the frequency of Twi'lek NPCs, this mod is a nice visual improvement, and the addition of ear meshes keeps consistency with other head models in the game.

There's also a KOTOR II version available here.

Installation & Uninstallation

To install this mod, drag the files from either the Option A folder or Option B folder to the Override folder located in your game's directory. Then, drag files from the Textures folder to the Override folder as well. If you're updating from an older version, make sure to delete any TGA and TXI files of the same names beforehand.

Only place the twilek_m05 files in your Override folder if you have the KOTOR 1 Community Patch installed. Otherwise, they won't do anything.

To uninstall this mod, delete the files from your game's Override folder. There's a list of files included in the download's readme.txt for reference.

Compatibility & Known Issues

This mod will not be compatible with any retextures for Twi'lek male heads.

This mod is compatible with both the K1 Community Patch and K1 NPC Overhaul Mod. Either or both of those must be installed prior to installing this.

This mod is incorporated into N-DReW's K1 Gameplay Improvement DEM, so separate installation is unnecessary.

Nice change. I would also recommend thinning down the lard neck the males have. As is, they constantly clip through the collars of Heavy and Medium armors.

Thanks! I'm planning on expanding this to an overhaul so I appreciate the suggestion.

just checked it on various NPCs, looks good but when you engage a conversation (close view) with the closer camera sometimes the ears look too cut, i mean too straight marked. What i say is that maybe adding few more polygons, nodes or however it is called in the model should help to smooth the model for the closer views (to have a more rounded ear I mean).

A minor issue of course, been myself as annoying and "sick" for details as I am.  ;)

great work cheers

Hi, Mod's Author!

I have been using two version of this mod, and there're definitely an improvement for the ears. But I noticed one thing that is lacked off and makes it inferior to vanilla model particularly for that one specific area, which is a smoothing group issue [I think] around the edge of the mouth. The vanilla model did not have the issue which at some angle - especially when the lighting gets to the spot - the mangled texture of your model is noticeably seen. Many thanks for considering this, and looking forwards to a positive return.

@ebmar I'd actually just noticed that (plus some other differences) when taking comparison shots. I'll work on restoring the original smoothing in those areas.

Hello! Thanks for the awesome mod!

I'm currently running into an issue anytime I see a twilek in-game where a popup shows up behind the game that says "Invalid bumpmap: Twilek_M01b7=.tga"

Sometimes instead of 7= it will have weird symbols.

Edit: This seems to have been caused by .txi files from ebmar's txi pack overriding the built-in info in your .tpc files. After removing the offending .txis, I haven't seen this issue.

Conflicting with canon here, but would you consider including an alternate option that replicates the female cone-shaped ear geometry in the future? Mainly for consistency reasons.
