About This File

Changes Juhani's appearance to a more pleasant looking Cathar woman in game, based on official Star Wars graphic novel visual concepts/references.

Released: 12 March 2015
Author: Cerez

Description:

Based on official, Star Wars Expanded Universe visual references, this mod completely changes Juhani's hostile default appearance in the game to a more-broadly-accepted-canon-like, unique, young Cathar woman players can find more relatable, to compliment her story arc. A number of years were spent detail refining this mod to make it feel like it was always meant to be a part of the original game.

Instructions:

Place all the files in the Files folder into your game's Override folder.

To make best use of this mod, I recommend also copying the files in the Extra folder to Override, because they serve to fix some debilitating bugs in Juhani's quest, and restore some of her removed dialogue from the original game -- therefore completing her involvement in the game's story.

This mod is built on Shem's "Juhani - Total Makeover" mod, which used Mjpb3's head skin as a base, and its head model was exported/made by Kha. In addition, I've had generous help from DarkLordXana, who was kind to help me give Kha's head model Cathar features (sharp teeth, flatter nose), and to whom I am forever grateful for their support.

Model (Export): Kha
Skin: Mjpb3
Juhani Mod and Cathar Reskin: Shem
Cathar Model Tweaks: DarkLordXana
New Cathar Reskin and Icon: Cerez

Bug Fixes: Darth333, RPGClassics, Kexikus
Dialogue Restoration: KotOR1 Restoration (K1R) Team

I understand, that it took you long to actually make this. But, I just don't see the resemblance between the comic image you present and the textured model in-game. If it's the screenshot that doesn't do it justice, then I suggest you make other screenshots. Because, it doesn't feel all that right, what with the comic book adaptation having MUCH paler skin, white hair, and much better defined nose and lip markings it's hard to tell that she isn't just another human, honestly.

Well, humans don't have a cat's flattened nose ridge and nose, sharp teeth,  human-cat eyes, striped fur covering their bodies, and pointy, cat ears -- but if that's how you see it, fine with me.

I used the comic reference image as a visual design guideline, not a direct reference. The Cathar character depicted there is Sylvar, not Juhani. I have also consulted Wookiepedia on the history and genetics (depictions) of the Cathar species in the EU/Legends comics/stories. I have taken some liberty with her hair colour (dark brown as opposed to yellow-brown), and had KOTOR's design limitations to deal with when it comes to the angle of her ears (because of the game's headwear items), and the absence of a tail (although Cathars don't have tails in all depictions).

If I may give constructive criticisism in return, I recommend you actually try out a skin/model in-game before you criticise it.

In any case, this is a lot closer to the original reference material than the Juhani model/skin that ships with KOTOR, and I'm personally (very much) fond of it.

Take it or leave it, or even build upon it, your choice. You're welcome.

1. Your screenshot is the human player character with Cathar lips, eyes (not even as obviously as those on the vanilla Juhani), and schnoz, so A, there's no "striped fur covering [her body], and pointy, cat ears" in sight and B. it's therefore a rubbish advertisement for a supposed "improved Juhani". The whole point of providing screenshots is to let people see what a mod does before they go to the trouble of installing it (and then having to uninstall if they don't like it).

2. About that whole "fur covering their bodies" thing... that's kinda the biggest problem with Juhani's vanilla appearance. Cathar are supposed to be covered in fur, but Juhani's vanilla appearance looks like bare skin with slightly-fuzzy stripes. It's so blatantly bad that Hasbro actually attempted a pathetic "no-prize" answer of claiming there was a "Juhani subspecies" instead of admitting that Bioware royally screwed up. Her vanilla appearance already has the nose, the teeth, the eyes, and the ears. The one thing it really needs added is the fur. Does your mod deliver on that?
