About This File

Summary

This is a collection of various things that I found annoying enough to alter. I collect things that I don't think warrant their own mods into a single mod, to be released to the general public when it becomes more substantial.

Contents

I've divided this mod into five categories: Straight Fixes, Bug Fixes, Resolution Fixes, Aesthetic Improvements, and Things What Bother Me Fixes.

Straight Fixes are fixes for issues I think are genuine errors or mistakes or oversights or what have you. There's a problem, here's a fix for it. No artistic license is involved.

Bug Fixes really fall under straight fixes but I've separated them into their own category because they're more severe and there's absolutely no reason not to have them. They fix bugs that could potentially break your game. What I've included are either well known and easy for me to do a quick fix or came to my attention directly. There are lots of other bugs this mod doesn't fix, so I strongly suggest that you seek out a more extensive bug-fixing mod.

Resolution Fixes are all textures from the game for which there were identical, higher resolution textures somewhere else in the game files. So I've swapped the lower resolution ones for the higher resolution ones. I've separated these from the straight fixes because a) I didn't make any of the content here - it's all extracted from the game, and b) they don't actually fix "problems" per se - it's just an increase in resolution. It looks the same, with slightly more pixels.

Aesthetic Improvements are my attempts to improve the visual quality in certain areas. I've tried to maintain the original aesthetic of the game while improving the quality. But the nature of the improvements necessitates new content created by me. You might not like my work, or you might use a different mod that touches on these areas, or whatever, so I've isolated these from the other fixes.

Things What Bother Me Fixes fix things what bother me. They might not bother you but they bother me, so I've isolated those as well.

Hey, I wanted to check with you about some of these fixes since some appear to have been released as individual mods by different people, and I wanted to avoid installing the same fix twice and potentially breaking something.

First, the crystal fix aims to correct the same thing as this fix. Does it do it in the same manner? Is there any difference?

The Xor fix has been covered here and here. Does this make this change automatically then?

The Manaan security camera has also been covered here. The description of that mod doesn't specify how it fixes it, though, like yours does.

As a side note, I have no way of knowing what some of the other fixes do or look like without any screenshot for comparison. This results in having to decide whether to trust in the fix and install it blindly or opt for passing on it. These fixes include the Sith Fighter lasers, the stunt module fixes, the commoner clothing fixes and the Sith soldier corpse, among others.

Not from this mod, but I figured you'd like to address this here for convenience. If not, let me know and I'll place it where it should be or just PM you, I guess. The previous mod I talked about earlier also addresses the swapped soundsets you mentioned in your Korriban changelog 1.1. Is it the same fix?

Thanks in advance.

My fixes were done in isolation over the period of a few years so yeah there's overlap with some other mods.

All the fixes you linked to are included in the KOTOR 1 Community Patch though, and I would recommend trying that before any other bug fixes. I probably should make a separate download that doesn't include the stuff already included in that, though... if I could remember what is included...

The fixes are kept in separate folders and the readme details exactly what files affect what so you don't have to install everything. With the exception of the crystal icon fixes, you can also easily uninstall everything if you change your mind.

You make a good point about the screenshots, though. Some of the stuff you mentioned is pictured but I guess I didn't do a before & after. For some it would turn into a spot the difference game, and for others the original is so obviously wrong that I didn't see the point of it and was lazy.

That's the thing. I can't tell what's included in the patch (the one for K1 at least), and I prefer selecting the fixes one by one rather than having a load of mandatory mods that are all applied at once through the installer, when I know for a fact that some of the fixes included in the Community Patch for TSL aren't really fixes. More like improvements and retexture mods that I don't fully agree with.

I'm sure your fixes will do the job just fine, at any rate. I'll still have to leave some of them out for now though, since I have no idea what they do.

Hey JC, these fixes are crucial. I'm curious, though, how did you upscale the textures (such as for Bastila's default clothing and Revan's robes)? I might want to do something like it in the future.

I didn't upscale those. There was a higher resolution texture for the Revan robes elsewhere in the game files. For Bastila's clothing, only the missing shader data was added, and the texture wasn't changed at all.

I would recommend waifu2x for upscaling, though. I've used that in other mods before. The grain remover makes it lose some of the detail, so I often add my own texture overlay to get it back. There might be better GAN-powered solutions that have come out more recently, but I've yet to look into them.

I want to say the Sith fighter lasers were the right color in the Xbox version but I forget. It's been a long time since I played that, because my Xbox copy has a bad spot that screws up traveling between South and North sides of the Upper City on Taris.
