This mod presents you an overhauled version of Selven; a human high-profile assassin who became infamous for her extermination of the Ulgo family on Taris and tons of other assassination attempts.

 # Background #

"Now you'll see why I'm the most dangerous assassin on Taris".

Spoiler-alert!:

Spoiler

A line that will make most KotORians be like "Really? Hmm... let's see what you've got then, Selven!"- and less than 20 seconds later, feels like nothing is really happening then #truestory.

Bugged with the fact that Selven could possibly be beaten in less than 20 seconds with under-leveled PC and companions, along with her looks that just too ordinary point to the fact that she was a high-profile assassin who became infamous for extermination of the Ulgo family on Taris and tons of other assassination attempts; the project was started then.

# About this Mod #

  • Changes to both the head and body texture so now Selven is more Selven. [Updated in 1.3]
  • Selven's much harder to fight. She was now designed to be encountered with high level PCs; more likely with Bastila in the party. [Updated in 1.3]
  • Some tweaks to the voice to fit her new personality.
  • Selven got a new pair of blaster and blade. They were described as SS-SL7 Rapid Blaster and DM-SL7 Vibroblade. [Updated in 1.3]
  • Some new stuffs in her inventory also; which some are proven to be valuable loots- if, she has been defeated. [Updated in 1.3 - 'Selven's "Vanilla" Difficulty and Inventory' patch included]

# Final Remarks #

Critiques, comments, suggestions, questions and any feedbacks for the next update are very much appreciated- PM me at deadlystream.com [ebmar] or just write a public message on my feed. And thank you! for downloading, and playing this mod.

Hope you enjoy the mod as much as I do!

Installation: Run the installer [TSLPatcher.exe]. [Updated in 1.3]

Uninstallation: Remove tar03_selven031.utc from the 'Override' folder. As to uninstall only the new voices, you can overwrite them again by choosing the option "Optional: Selven's Vanilla Voices" from the installer directory. [Updated in 1.3]

Compatibility: Will not compatible with T7nowhere's "Weapons of the Old Republic" and any other mods that changes the value nor conflicted with tar03_selven031.utc. If you want to ensure this mod to work properly, install this mod after T7's "WotOR" and/or all other mods has. This mod is 100% compatible with Sithspecter's "High Quality Blasters" and DeadMan's "[K1] Vibrosword Replacement Pack", as the textures and models inside this mod are using different variations from the said mods. [Updated in 1.3]

RedistributionDo not redistribute this mod or re-release it on any website at all. If you're planning to re-use the assets from this mod- please, ask me for permission first. Most likely it will be granted. More importantly, give credits to Sithspecter and DeadMan, as SS provides us the blaster's resource and DM actually asking on his mod's page to only give him credits for using the blade's assets. And if you're planning to re-use the blade assets to a mod that you're going to release on Steam Workshop, it seems a permission would not be granted; referring to DM's wishes on the mod's page. While for others, a bit of credits to my name is always a welcome, welcome.  [Updated in 1.3]

Credits: [Updated in 1.3]

  • DarthParametric for literally everything. This mod would not be possible without DP's hands-on approach. And with later development of this mod, I've been using DP's "addheader.bat" to re-compressed the .WAV files which tools have been proven very useful.
  • Sithspecter for "High Quality Blasters: Modder's Resource".
  • DeadMan for "[K1] Vibrosword Replacement Pack".
  • A Future Pilot for the assistance with new entries of the blaster and the blade. If you find the new descriptions are somewhat interesting, they are AFP's work there.
  • N-DReW25 and JustABitAgroed for their input to the updated .utc's inventory and some advices regarding to the attribution of both the blaster and the blade.
  • Salk for the input to include the optional 'Selven's "Vanilla" Difficulty and Inventory' patch.
  • Sith Holocron, UnusualCharacters and CarthOnasty for advices and discussions which having great influence on the creative process of this mod.
  • BioWare & LucasArts for the 'Game of the 21st Century'.
  • All streamers on DeadlyStream which indirectly involved on this project that I couldn't possibly mentioned one by one.
  • All modders either active or inactive.
  • bead-v and ndix UR for the MDLedit.
  • Fred Tetra for the KotOR Tool.
  • stoffe and Fair Strides for the TSLPatcher setup.
  • DeadlyStream for a place to hangout and to discuss.

Nice to see you finally complete this! Downloading it right away. Say, what is in Selven's inventory? I'm asking because I already killed the vanilla Selven in my latest play-through of KOTOR and I want to test this mod to see what she drops. BTW, does she drop any armor, gauntlets, shields, belts, or headpieces?

  • Thanks 1

Some new stuffs, and some old canon stuffs she'd supposed to carry- just like Wiki says:

Nice. Now I know what she drops so I can test this out properly. Shame you don't get her armor, but that would break the game.

Appreciate the input! Yes, the unlooted armor was intended but, it could actually happen to be looted in the future updates. We'll see. And if you don't mind me asking; could I have your input about the attribution specifically to the stats both the blaster and the sword? If you actually have the time then for sure. I want to know if they're balanced or no after this overhaul. Many thanks!

By the way, I'm using your mod with the Kain's NPC Overhaul Mod. Wish that was compatible with K1 Restoration. Oh and I have to thank Deadman, Darth Paramertic, and SithSpecter for this, too. Say, have you looked at the Modder's Resource I uploaded, it's SpaceAlex's unfinished K1 Enhancement Pack.

Nice to hear that! I am certain this mod would be compatible with mostly anything, including KP's "[KotOR] NPC Overhaul Mod" and ZM90's "KotOR 1 Restoration"; as this mod uses unique headers for textures, models, .utis and custom rows on .2das. The exception would be any other mods that potentially conflicted with "tar03_selven031.utc", or maybe any mods that "unfortunately" uses the same values for the models.

Hey ebmar, just played the update. Glad to see that the weapons are basically perfectly balanced now. I would however up the difficulty on Selven's fight. Or at least tweak it slightly. I was just able to beat her after a few tries with a level 4 PC (entering the area as soon as I could) and just Carth in my party. I think the main problem is that she throws all those concussions at the beginning. This stops her from healing and once you dodge the concussions (all of which she throws in the same spot) you're able to just DPS her down by about round 6 or 7 on Imp difficulty (somewhat reliant on Carth's Power Blast/Poison Grenade RNG, but still extremely doable, and far under the intended difficulty). While I do like the idea of forcing someone to dodge the grenades, it does make the fight far too easy. If you took away (or had fewer of) those concussions and perhaps gave a little unstoppable damage (energy shields made it pretty easy mode as well) to her pistol (say 1-10 base, +3 Unstoppable (rather than Energy) to match the Vibroblade) then it would up the difficulty to a more desirable spot (and make her blaster more unique as a bonus, plus it adds to her characterization that she has an illegal disruptor mod on her blaster). Also, really glad to see the incoherency in the weapon descriptions is gone. Makes it look less like a mod and more like a part of the original game, which is always a plus. Thanks again.

I like both these ideas (Unstoppable damage instead of Energy, and fewer grenades). I think just 1 or 2 grenades would be good, so that she can heal well before she's in any serious danger

Glad to hear the weapons are doing fine now! Yes, there is this plan to tweak her .utc in the next update, because after those changes to the blaster and the blade, her challenge to the fight drop quite significantly.

Spot on! Yes, do I believe so. At first I'm hoping that giving her those concussions would do great for the challenge, but it seems the AI didn't work like it expected.

Yes! Thank you all for the input- very much appreciated! I'm having that plan too short after the last update, but hold off waiting for any feedbacks; thinking maybe things go well on the other end. Yes, I am certain giving her one or two concussions would be perfect to have that dynamism in the battle. As for the Unstoppable Damage, I'll take a look at it- and more likely the changes will be made in the next update then; along with a fix on the alpha channel of the armor.

Thanks for downloading the mod! Appreciate it a lot!

Actually, it currently is in Under Development state so, maybe in 1 or 2 days it will be updated again. The recent status you saw about the update actually referring to me adding [Under Development] label on the descriptions. If you want to get proper notifications about updates from this mod, I suggest you to look at the changelog section located most below the mod's description, and then you could check whether the mod you've been having was it the latest version or no. Hoping it could saves you from re-downloading the same version of the mod. 😊

Oh and are you going to upgrade any other characters?

Yes, there are some characters in mind, most likely in the near future would be Lyn Sekla. Meanwhile, you can see the "trailer" here.

Very happy to report that it is absolutely mathematically impossible to beat her as soon as you can enter the area. At least on the hardest difficulty. Maybe if she didn't do 60 DPR 1 hour into the game lmao. I'll keep coming back to see at what point I can get her. I think if I have more shields and grenades, I may still be able to pull it off with only two party members, but we'll see. I noticed what appears to be 3 points of unstoppable damage BTW. 😉

Haha! Very happy for the report, also! But dang, I'm curious what's your party setup? Because I battle-tested her on Normal difficulty with lvl 7 Scout class' PC and lvl 7 Carth, and we can't even get her health bar to half. 😅

With all due respect, sir; this Selven was designed to be encountered with full party members, most likely with Bastila in it. I imagine the best scenario to fight her would be with Zaalbar, Bastila and PC, all in highest level possible on Taris [lvl 7 would be the most suitable one], probably that time before going to Davik's estate with Canderous. But if you can defeat her with only two party members; sir, you have my utmost respect! :respect:

Hmm, I am certain there are no Unstoppable Damage points been added. 🤔

Huh. Alright. It seemed as though she was very consistently doing 3 damage through my shields but perhaps that was carryover damage or something like that? I'll try to remember to look at the feedback next time.

I'm running a blaster build this go-round so my PC's a good bit harder to hit, but the main problem was that I ran out of shields. I think if I have the shields and especially the mines from the Undercity/Sewers to play with then it would be quite do-able.

That's exactly my point, though. Way I see it, if I can beat her on Imp, then an average player should be able to do it on Normal. So basically just think of me as a play tester for balance. I don't want the fight to be overly hard certainly, but I wouldn't mind it being the second hardest fight on the planet (after Calo/Davik)

Dang, really wish you sayin' that the fight would be the hardest fight on Taris upstaging Calo and Davik's fight. Because the way I see this Selven; she's the hidden [although Zax is giving a hint where she was hiding, I believe if KotOR was an open-world game she would be hard to find lol] mini-boss before leaving Taris. She is pure side-quest just like BioWare designed her. Using that as the starting point, this mod further developed her to be non-mandatory for players to encounter, a divergent to Calo and Davik encounter which is required for players to progress to the next phase of the game.

Another thing, I know with installing this mod, most players [without using cheats or any stats enhancement mod] would be forced for not using 5/15, 4/16, or that extreme 2/18 [and I believe recently there's a mod which made it possible to do a whooping 1/19 level build!] if they decide to fight her in their playthrough. So, I'd mind if she's not the hardest fight on Taris. 😁

Unfortunately, I don't really like the way that would make Calo Nord feel. (Before I go on, this is vastly more of a problem I have with the vanilla game rather than with your Selven (even if she does turn out to be harder than the story fight.)) While I like the idea of having Selven be an optional mini-boss that's harder than the story progression boss (sort of like Nameless King in DS3), it throws a lot of shade Calo's way and makes him seem insignificant. Selven is the most dangerous assassin on Taris, but Calo's supposed to be one of the (if not the) best bounty hunters in the galaxy. Making Selven's fight anywhere close to the difficulty of Calo/Davik already makes her seem supremely bad***. Making it harder just further diminishes Calo Nord (especially in the eyes of a first-time player) to the guy that talks big (despite his stature lol) but goes down like a chump, which isn't what I think BioWare intended (from my point of view at least). First, you hear Mission talk him up like he's the best thing since Tarisian ale, then twice you get to see him in action (one of which he instagibs you if you try to talk to him), but then you find out he's just another one of Davik's/The Exchange's lackeys. They even make it seem like he and Canderous are rivals when based upon what we had seen and heard up until that point, Calo's in a whole different league. I really wish that Calo could just not be in Davik's estate at all, so that then when he comes after you post-first star map, he's unbelievably intimidating. He'd be the guy that, last time you saw him, shot you dead without so much as lifting a finger, rather than the guy who barely escaped you alive back when you weren't even a jedi yet. They took such a hard left turn with how they presented him. It's very jarring. Haha. Sorry. </ventsession> But yeah, I'd prefer if you didn't exacerbate this problem if at all possible. If there's one mod that would be at the top of my request list, taking Calo out of Davik's estate would definitely be it. It'll probably never happen though since you'd also have to redo two cutscenes and a bunch of other stuff. Sad day. It's funny when you think about it. He's a far more important character, but he basically got the same treatment that Selven did. "It's like poetry; they rhyme." as the man once said.

Sheesh, how many force powers do you need? 😅Never been my style. I think if they baited out her vibroblade and ran her through some mines it still wouldn't be so bad, but I see your point.

For context, I have probably the best PC build I could have for this specific part of the game. That said.. once I had a lvl 7 PC, I came back with just Carth and first-tried the fight. Just put a shield on each and went to work. No other items. Killed her about round 5. Thought that might've been a fluke because she didn't heal for whatever reason so I tried it one more time. The second time was harder. She used both her life support packs, but still, I went through one full shield and it was over. Third time was very similar to the second. Fourth time I killed her on round 4 and she didn't heal again. Fifth time, same story. The times she chooses to heal seem to be somewhat random but often don't occur until at least round 4 (got round 3 once in 8ish go's at her). If I had a third party member I'd be killing her consistently by round 3. Overall, she still needs an extra oomph. To reach your desired difficulty, either a health or a defense upgrade is a must. Also (I think you'll like this one), instead of a concussion, I'd just give her a thermal detonator, in order to give her the possibility of taking out one of your companions almost, if not immediately (and make it so that you absolutely have to dodge it, which again, I do like the idea of). Might even consider giving her a shield on top of that, as keeping her with her blaster out is about half as hard as the alternative. I did give it a try on Normal difficulty as well, and I'm sorry to say it was painfully easy. With Zaalbar and Carth in my party, I used no items whatsoever and just let the game play itself (letting the AI control my entire squad). Even with her healing both times, she was still dead by round 8, with none of my squad going down, or even being below half HP for that matter. So at this point, even on impossible, with only two party members (if we're being honest, I could, within reason, just solo her as long as she doesn't take her vibroblade out), I'm not having to use stims, mines, grenades, or even micro all that well. One last change I'd like to see is giving her weapons a slight buff. Right now, her blaster is barely better than Bendak's, and her vibroblade is worse than the prototype. I'd say she still needs some, calibrations.

Oh yeah, not sure what that 3 damage was all about earlier. Didn't get that this time.

Now that, was a good reading session, buddy. Appreciate them details, and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I'm not going to have much response to it, just going to second your statement about how they took such a turn with how Calo been presented. Yeah, I kind of feel that too.

And that is an interesting idea actually, to not seeing Calo in Davik's estate, but yes- that is a huge work to do.

Again, can't response much to this amazing assessment. Many thanks for this, very much appreciated!

Yes, it seems an upgrade to defense and having her health boosted along with getting her a shield are the priorities on the next update. But as they seems to be some minor tweaks, the update could hold-off in the meantime.

Oh yeah, not sure what that 3 damage was all about earlier. Didn't get that this time.

Ah, I take that as good news then! 😁

And thank you, for the decision to lift the rating of this mod. I appreciate that a lot.

With respect, and all the best!

I haven't levied some praise your way in a minute so I'd like to say that I love the touch of Selven's lowered voice. The implication that Selven did hormone therapy to make her stronger and faster to be an even more dangerous assassin adds another great level to her characterization. I just found your Ajunta Pall and Lyn Sekla mods as well so I'll tell you what I think of those when I get the chance (and hopefully I can get Pall's mod working with the 3-ish others I have running for him 😅). Keep up the great work, bud.

  • Thanks 1

Glad that we're at the similar perspective on this one! And let us assume that her routine practice of hormone therapy somewhat affected her voice, which makes her lowered voice sounds layered and artificial! 😂

Thanks for downloading the mods! Ajunta Pall's Blade "Legends" mod uses IRobert's "[K1] Vibroweapons replacement pack retexture" base texture so, credits should be addressed to IR for doing the hardwork on the texture and the model. And Lyn Sekla "Legends" mod uses Dark Hope's "Girl with ritual tattoos" base texture and pretty much the same, credits to DH for the amazing work on the texture, I'm just continuing DH's work there.

Let me know with anything after using the mods then!

I'm pretty sure Pall's mod will be compatible with most mods. So far as I'm aware of they are; VarsityPuppet's "Spectral Ajunta Pall Canonical Appearance" and Rece's "Ajunta Pall's Swords Revamped". Just make sure that Pall's mod installed last after those mods has. Let me know of other mods that potentially conflicted with- should I able to make it compatible then.

I've noticed there always seems to be a Vulkar Enforcer that spawns behind the door to Selven's apartment. Is there any way to fix that, or is it an issue with K1R?

Edit: Never mind. It's not an issue with either. Just something with my personal build.
