About This File

The K1 Community Patch (K1CP) is a compilation of previous bugfix mods and a multitude of new original fixes put together with the intention of resolving the many and various issues that KOTOR has. This includes some well-known game breaking bugs/softlocks, broken quests, inaccessible content, as well as lesser issues such as problems in conversations, visual inconsistencies, player annoyances, etc. The intention is for the changes to be as seamless as possible, fixing and improving things whilst still retaining the original developer intent.

A huge thanks to all of the mod authors who created these mods, and allowed them to be included in this patch! Unfortunately, the individual list of changes has grown far too long to be included in this post. However, you can view a detailed breakdown of each author's individual contributions in the included readme file and a summary of the changes the current version has made since the previous release in the changelog file.

Installation:
Run INSTALL.exe and navigate to your K1 install folder. Generally speaking, this mod should be installed before anything else, except mods that do hard edits/overwrites of 2DA, TLK or MOD (module) files.

Warning: Never run the installer from inside the archive! Always extract the archive onto your hard drive first.

N.B.: With the advent of version 1.10.0, K1CP has migrated away from the use of TSLPatcher and switched to HoloPatcher. This allows for additional patching functionality and resolves some bugs encountered with TSLPatcher. HoloPatcher is also multi-platform. The bundled installer is the Windows version, but Mac and Linux users can download the appropriate installer for their system here.

It is highly recommended that you do not install the game on your system's C drive, especially in Program Files. Windows can have permissions issues when trying to install the mod to a C drive destination. If you are using the Steam version of the game and have installed Steam in its default Program Files location, we advise creating a new Steam Library on a different drive and moving the game there via the game's Properties pop-up in Steam.

Compatibility/Known Issues:
K1CP uses module injection in an attempt to remain as compatible as possible with other mods. This may result in issues with mods that simply put files in the Override folder. It is recommended that you consult the individual authors of any large scale mods, particularly those that edit DLGs and scripts, as to whether their work is compatible with K1CP. Some mods will likely require updates, some may need to be installed in a specific order, whilst others may be fundamentally incompatible.

K1CP currently only supports the English language version of the game, and makes a number of edits to the TLK file in English. If anyone is able to provide translations of these changes to other languages, please let us know.

The KOTOR 1 Restoration (K1R) mod is incompatible with K1CP, however there is ongoing work to re-create the K1R mod for K1CP: https://deadlystream.com/files/file/2345-restored-content-for-k1cp-demo/

These are the currently known bugs/issues with KOTOR or the mod that the K1CP is looking to resolve:

https://github.com/KOTORCommunityPatches/K1_Community_Patch/issues

If you find any others, especially with changes/additions K1CP makes, please report them on the Github issue page or here on Deadly Stream so they can be addressed. Be sure to include as much information as possible, including a list of all the other mods you have installed, the order you installed them in, steps to reproduce the problem, along with screenshots and save files, if appropriate. You may also be directed to provide the install log file, a list of the contents of your Override folder, and specific MOD files from your modules folder.

Uninstallation:
Given the complexity of this mod, a clean install of KOTOR is the recommended approach for uninstalling K1CP. However, HoloPatcher does provide uninstall Shell (Bash) and PowerShell scripts which will work as long as K1CP was the most recent mod installed.

Permissions:
Due to this mod being a compilation from many different authors, please do not distribute/rehost it.

Steam will let you create a new Library that you can install games to wherever you want. Open up Steam, in the menus up on the top left go to Steam -> Settings -> Downloads. Click the Steam Library Folders button up the top. Click the Add Library Folder button and choose or create a new folder somewhere. Now go to the main Library game listing and right click on KOTOR on the list on the left. Choose Properties -> Local Files -> Move Install Folder, select your new library from the drop-down list, then click the Move Folder button.

Okay, so I click on the create folder, make a new folder, and then it pops up with what is in the screenshot when I press select or create new folder. I don't know what to do, and this really sucks.

Ah, it must only allow one per drive. Makes sense I guess, albeit not much help for you in this case.

If you are using the totally not cracked exe for widescreen then it's ultimately irrelevant, since you can just copy the KOTOR folder wherever you want without the need for Steam at all.

I was planning to move kotor to another folder and set up a launch path, or at least a place where I can open the folder.

Okay, so I am still having my previous problem, even though I have not only manually checked all of the accessibility boxes in security to be checked so there's nothing that isn't allowed, but I have also moved my entire steam folder out of program files, and I have made sure to run that and kotor all once before installing it. I have also made sure to un-install and reinstall my kotor file except for my override which I add back before running the program but, I don't see a problem with that considering it wouldn't not allow the temp folders in the community patch 1.8 folder to be made.

My override folder has files from the r/kotor mod build, I'm using the full build, and have installed everything but the TSLPatchHelper script that they recommend. Even with that installed, I was still getting errors. I am not using the cracked .exe because I have yet to get past getting this installed in order to fix widescreen.

From the looks of it, it's denying me access to un-made temporary files and that doesn't make sense when they don't even exist meaning I can't change their accessibility. I would like it if somebody were to somehow help me to install this manually without needing to create the temporary files and in an order that won't end up breaking any mods.

An example of the latest error: Unhandled exception: Cannot create file "C:\Users\Kayse\Desktop\KOTOR 1 Community Patch v1.8\tslpatchdata\danm14ab_tmp\and_mandtrig01.utt". Access is denied (0)

Nevermind, I just had to re-download the .zip and re-unzip it.

Hey, I've been following this progress for a while and waiting for 1.8 to be release to finally give KOTOR a try. I greatly appreciate all the effort that went into creating this. I am having an issue with the installation. When I run the INSTALLER.exe I never get a prompt to select the game folder. I can click "Install Mod" button but it doesn't seem to actually work. I've attached a screenshot of what it gets stuck on. I tried running as administrator and nothing changed. I am on Windows 10 and I have the GOG version of KOTOR1 installed at "C:\GAMES\Star Wars - KotOR". The files of the patch are in "C:\GAMES\KOTOR 1 Community Patch". Am I doing something wrong? In task manager it stays at 3,7MB memory usage constantly. Is is running but it just seems like it's stuck so I should just let it run for a while?

EDIT: Nevermind, fixed it. Finally got the game folder prompt. Seems like unplugging my second monitor is what made it appear.

Hi! Every time I try to use this patcher it says that there are files missing, the first one is hijata.utc, if i copy and rename another file it gets to another point and throws the same missing file error but for K_hdustil_dialog.dlg. I tried downloading the community patch 4 times and they're always missing the hijata file.

The exact line for the error I got for the second file is  [Error]     Cannot open file " \compatch\tslpatchdata\k_hdustil_dialog.dlg". The system cannot find the file specified (EXT-0)

I googled the file that hijata got added to which is korr_m35aa.mod, and I THINK it comes from the KOTOR 1 Restoration mod but when I download that on its own it doesn't have either of those files.

Any help would be appreciated : )

Those are purposely missing. They aren't loose files. The installer patches the vanilla versions inside modules. Whatever you are doing, your install destination is apparently completely broken, as the modules should be added if they don't already exist before any patching begins.

Everytime I run the installer it says : Error! Unable to locate TLK file to patch, "dialog.tlk" file not found! (GEN-8)

I've been trying to install it into the override folder, is that correct? Or should I just put it into steam>steamapps>common>swkotor?

You need to select your root KOTOR folder, not Override. I don't know what the path is for Steam but it's the folder where dialog.tlk is.

I'm having an issue that only started after installing this mod, so I must assume it is responsible for it. Basically the problem is with the messengers that appear for companions. Like Lena and Jagi.

Their conversations glitch out and loop. E.g Jagi appeared on Dantooine  to challenge Canderous to a duel on Tatooine then he walked off. After the conversation I spoke to Canderous with him saying we had to get to Tatooine so he could kill Jagi. After that convo ended, the screen went black and we were entered into a conversation with Jagi again (he was standing near that Jedi who tells you about the Terentatek) and this conversation was his dialogue on Tatooine 'so you have come and I see you have brought friends' etc. etc.

I convinced Jagi not to fight, he 'supposedly' took his own life, and that ended the conversation, I received XP and a journal entry saying Jagi was dead and it has shaken Canderous. I went to where Jagi was in the convo and he was just standing there, I spoke to him and it re-entered the original conversation back outside the Hawk, where Canderous was surprised to see Jagi, and Jagi challenging him to a duel. I went into the Ebon Hawk and Canderous is talking about needing to go to Tatooine to kill Jagi. I haven't gotten there yet so I don't know what effect this will have.

Another example with Lena, after I finished the conversation with her. I tried going back to the Ebon Hawk but the screen went black, and the conversation restated. Overall I went though Lena's conversation 3 times before I finally was able to enter the Hawk.

Edit: Just wanted to note that I'm not using the K1 restoration mod.

@A Future Pilot The issue I mentioned above about looping messenger sequences seems to have been cause by your mods k_dialog files. I deleted them from the override and the game appears to be working normally again.

Edit: I think I am mistaken, I just tried going through their convo's again, and the same looping issue I mentioned above happened still.

k_htmd_dialog.dlg k_hlena_dialog.dlg k_hjuh_dialog.dlg k_hhkd_dialog.dlg k_hjagi_dialog.dlg k_hdavin_dialog.dlg k_hcar_dialog.dlg k_hcan_dialog.dlg

Spoiler

Corrected unintended re-triggering of Messenger conversations in front of the Ebon Hawk on Dantooine.

If you're already using 1.8, just download the v1.8.0 to v1.8.1 Update zip file, and copy the contents of the Override folder into your Override.

Great work everyone. I love bug fixes and felt shocked to see how many bugs Bioware left in the game.

Does K1CP require a new playthrough, or will the fixes apply to an existing save? Obviously, I realize I would only see fixes for content I haven't already completed [assuming K1CP works with existing saves]. I searched through comments and documentation [the readme], but I didn't find an answer that said K1CP requires a new playthrough or will work fine with existing playthroughs. Thank you!

It is intended to be used with a new playthrough. There's no guarantee something won't work as intended or outright break if you install it midway through.

Thank you for the swift response.
Perhaps someone could add a note to the description or readme of the mod so people understand to use K1CP with a new playthrough for the best experience? I would imagine adding that note would help to lessen the chance people would report false bugs that result from installing K1CP on an existing playthrough for example.

I may have found a possible bug.  I'm not sure whether or not it can be fixed by this mod in a future update but I didn't know where else to report this.  The bug is with the character Sarna in the Upper City Cantina on Taris.  When using the [Persuade] option to lower the cost from 200 credits to 100 credits in order to obtain some uniforms and the result is [Failure], you loose the 100 credits anyway once the dialogue is over.

This shouldn't be an option with the original game or the Community Patch. Are you using K1R?

No, I’m not using the Kotor 1 Restoration mod.  I read somewhere that it's not really needed when using the latest version of K1CP.  The only mods I installed are as follows:

1) Flawless Widescreen x86 (my only option since my resolution is 3440x1440)

2) Kotor 1 Community Patch v1.8.1

3) Kotor 1 Remastered (AI Upscaled) Cutscenes - 1440p resolution

4) Selphadur’s Kotor Texture Redux v1.1 Standalone

OK, either my memory is failing me or I never encountered that in the game before. I thought it was cut content.

I was able to reproduce the bug, so I'm adding an issue for it for the next release.

It's my first play-though.  I hadn't yet been invited to the after-shift apartment party where you can freely acquire the uniforms after the party members pass out.  Much better than spending credits.
