JC's Darksaber for K2 1.2

About This File

This mod adds the Darksaber, a unique lightsaber seen in the Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows, to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords.

The Darksaber comes with a custom hilt and blade effect.

The Darksaber's stats are better than the standard lightsaber's (+2 Charisma and +1d10 Universal damage) but the item cannot be upgraded.

I have integrated the item into the game, but I'll keep the how a surprise. One hint: You must search through the possessions of a certain Mandalorian.

If you want to get it through playing the game, you'll have to start a new game. Otherwise, you can cheat it in. The item is "jc_darksaber".

What's New in Version 1.2   See changelog

Released

  • Updated blade textures using the After Effects plug-in Saber.
  • Rotated the hilt to match the way it is held in the TV shows. Thanks to @JustABitAgroed for pointing that out.
  • Corrected the hilt's normal map. The Y-axis was inverted.
  • Converted all textures to compressed TPC format.
  • Cleaned out unused file.
  • Added source code for a_meetmand_cs.

It wouldn't really work with the way the game's upgrade system is. I've given it stats that I think are comparable to a fully upgraded item.

For some reason, it's only downloading as a .txt file for me.

I'm not sure what that's about. It's appearing as a .zip as it should for me. You could try renaming the file after it's downloaded.

I wonder, is it possible for you to make this usable by Mandalore since the Darksaber is basically a Mandalorian weapon?

Not without making Mandalore able to use all lightsabers, no. But if you want to do that, you can use KSE or some equivalent.

For some reason I got something called file.kor, what is that?

That's just part of the readme. It's not meant to be installed.

Will this mod work with the latest Steam version since it rewrites the lightsaber hilt?

I don't know. I don't use Steam and therefore don't test my mods on it.

Sine the Darksaber is a rather short blade, wouldn't it make more sense to make this a shortsaber as well?

Is it that short?

I remember it being curved a little, which I can't do, but I don't remember the length being any different from a standard saber.

Hmm, I was thinking that might be a trick of perspective but I pulled up the episode and found a profile shot that changed my mind. Interestingly, the blade looks about the length of KOTOR's short saber than the usual EU shoto.

Consider it an eventual update. Not sure when I'll get to it, though.

Downloaded and started using this and wow does it look phenomenal in game. Would've loved to have made it upgradable but great mod regardless, thank you so much!

Using this on steam with TSLRCM, works fine with cheating it in, cannot say with the npc script

*EDIT, been using, doesn't really need upgrades, performs as well as an upgraded lightsaber in mid game, big fan

Late reply, but YES.

I have edited one of the files in the mod. It allows the darksaber to accept lightsaber upgrades.

Just overwrite the file in your Override folder.

**WARNING**

Do NOT click on the color crystal slot (which will be empty) or the game will crash.

How did you do it? Please answer, can I also make for KOTOR 1 and make upgradable weapons from other mods?

I don't know of any conflict, but it's beyond my expertise because problems with the cheat console could be specific to your system or the version of the game you're running. If you can't get the cheat console to work, you could try adding it with the KOTOR Savegame Editor instead.

@JCarter426Hi. Do you know how to make items upgradable?

Hi, not JC (Obviously). I would advise against trying to modify this weapon to be upgradeable, as, like Freedon Nadd's Short Lightsaber, in the base game, it has stats equivalent to a fully-upgraded lightsaber. At that point, it becomes a god item, which is fun for maybe 5 minutes. If i missed what you were trying to actually convey, then  I apologize.

You have to change the upgrade level on the jc_darksaber.uti item to 3 and ideally add a line for it to upcrystals.2da to prevent crashes.

I didn't make it upgradeable for the mod release because even if you edit upcrystals.2da to prevent crashing, there's still some wonkiness with it on account of there only being a single hilt and no double-bladed or short options.

I've considered making models for the other hilt types in a future update, and that's certainly been requested, but I have loads of lightsaber modeling projects that I haven't paid attention to for a while so I can't promise to do so any time soon.
