#57736 Net Neutrality

Posted by Xuul on 12 July 2017 - 04:35 PM

I have two questions: If Net Neutrality is removed will this affect countries other than the USA and if Net Neutrality is removed what could happen to Deadlystream.com?

1) Yes. Not only do many countries take lead based on US government policy, but many major tech companies exist in the US. They will spread the increased cost of doing business out globally to cover their losses.

2) Hypothetically, your ISP could make this site slower or more expensive to access than other sites.

#55720 Knights of the Old Republic III Thread - Rumor Central

Posted by Xuul on 20 April 2017 - 08:12 PM

There have always been rumors about a certain Star Wars game releasing bouncing around the community. Over the last few weeks we have seen some more of this speculation, but this time it comes from the developers. Liam Robertson, spoke on his podcast about several things including a new Bioware “MMO-style co-op game” that will feature a “Sci Fi” setting. He also mentioned something that got the rumor mill running at full speed again, when he mentioned that Bioware Austin may be working on the Kotor franchise once again.

"What they're currently working on right now – and I have this on good authority – is a sort of remake/revival of Knights of the Old Republic. I don't know when this is set to come out, but it has been in development for a little while now."

Liam then mentions that it may not mean a game bearing the Knights of the Old Republic name, but instead something based on KOTOR's structure. This got many fans excited as they have long awaited more Kotor since the MMO is not to everyone’s taste.

There is a long running thread with discussions of K3 rumors so check it out here if that's your thing.

Now if you are familiar with Kotor 3 rumours then you probably expect what I am going write next. The rumours are just that- rumors. While there was confirmation that Bioware Austin did at some point prototype a Kotor Style game, the project was not greenlit. Liam Robertson also reached out to Kotaku to clarify some of what he said in his podcast.

Going to hold my hands up here - I think I just misheard some of the Austin stuff when I was talking on Skype, so I may have misspoke there. There’s also the element that I had no notes in front of me and just sort of rambled on from memory. I did not expect these few select statements to blow up (oops). I’m used to having the opportunity to just release follow-up notices on the Patreon with any updates and corrections. My bad there. Let me clarify that I don’t think KOTOR’s a current project. From the same people I learned about Dylan from, I did hear that they prototyped a KOTOR revival at Austin a while back. I believe it may have evolved into something else since then or fizzled out since then. I’m still confident Austin is doing something Star Wars related though and I’m confident in that. I actually did know that they were contributing towards Dylan since I originally found out about it when I was researching Austin’s Shadow Realms, so if I said exclusively, then that was admittedly a mistake.”

Sorry to disappoint you, but this is about par for the course when it comes to Kotor 3 rumors.

While we are on the topic of disappointments, we also have Star Wars Battlefront news. A new trailer dropped for Dice’s latest attempt at reviving Battlefront. While it is too soon to say anything substantial about the game we do have a few facts. There will be a campaign where you take control of Imperial Loyalists after the destruction of the Death Star, something absent from the original installment. The is a discussion thread for the trailer here.

Finally we have a new trailer for the newest Star Wars movie. There is a thread to discuss that in more detail here. I try to keep myself fairly free of spoilers so I tend to avoid trailers. That being said this one seems to not give away the entire film.

Just like last month I wanted to take the time to highlight and talk about some modding news and give a shoutout to a mod that I have not had time to cover in a video yet.

This week I want to talk about Shanilia a mod that adds a new Grey Jedi Merchant to everyone’s favorite water planet. This mod adds a new character to the game who fits into the game while still reacting dynamically to your character and their choices. I am a big fan of what this mod is trying to accomplish, as there is a bit of a lack of added content mods. There will be a video showcasing the mod in the future on my youtube channel, but for now check the mod out for yourself.

Every time I mention a mod, someone will eventually ask me to suggest a list of mods for them. I don't have the time to spend hours testing and compiling a list that is guaranteed to work. Luckily for me Snigaroo, over on the Kotor subreddit has already created such a list for both K1 and K2. It's worth checking out if you are in the mood for a full play though that is lore friendly and enhanced. Check that out HERE

That is all for now. Thanks again for reading.
I hope that you have an excellent day!

There is a random Selkath on the cover so I don't think they worried too much about what was actually in the game, just making it look cool.

#53623 Star Wars Game Sale!

Posted by Xuul on 08 February 2017 - 03:48 PM

Leilukin uploaded videos of those mods onto Youtube! So why not just use them instead?

I mean I could just have the videos on my channel, since they would get more views, but I always want to add something when I cover a mod. I could not find a good way to do that.

Btw, Taris Uppercity texturepack is going online this weekend!

I will have to take a look at it when it launches. I really like the improvements to the textures so far.

Edit: Weird double quote removed

#53587 Star Wars Game Sale!

Posted by Xuul on 07 February 2017 - 09:57 PM

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I made a post, but I finally have a bit of new to share.
The Humble Bundle is having its third Star Wars Humble Sale. For a low price you can become the proud owner of many great and classic Star Wars games. This pack includes such classics as Empire at War, Battlefront 2 and Knights of the Old Republic. If you or a friend wants to get some of these wonderful games head over to THIS link and check it out.
Act quick, at the time of posting this you will only have 13 days from the time this post was first made public before the sale ends!
For those unfamiliar with the Humble Bundle, it features "pay what you want" that allows you to get games at good deals. There is different minimum thresholds of payment that unlocks more games and even physical rewards like shirts. The best part is YOU get to decide where your money is sent (including charity). This deal sends money to Unicef's Star Wars Force for Change that helps improve the lives of children around the world.
If you like Star Wars (if not this isn't the website you are looking for) check it out.
MOD News
In other news, a new version of M4-78 is being tested and should be available to the public some time in the near future. This new version will have the long awaited improved voiceovers  that many users have been looking for.
We have also seen the release of the first area in the 2.0 version of the KOTOR ULTIMATE texture pack. You can see my video on it here
There has been many great mods released since my last post but as usual I will link to a few that I think are worth checking out. This time I want to highlight the awesome set of same sexrelationship mods by Leilukin
These mods allow players to experience relationships in the game that were normally exclusively heterosexual (including the ability for Darth Sion and a Male exile). These mods not only enable the differing relationships but also re-dub the voiceovers and subtitles for a less disjointing experience.
M4-78 Documentary Update
Finally, a new episode of the M4-78: A History Documentary series will be released soon. If you haven't seen it you can catch up with it here on my Youtube channel
Thanks for reading, have an excellent day.

#52316 TSLRCM Credits Discussion

Posted by Xuul on 17 January 2017 - 10:11 PM

I want to weigh in on the original topic of this post. I can think of a few reasons why most people would not want to post their name in the credits.

I will probably explain this poorly.

1) Recognition. If/when I am ever credited in a mod or video project, I want to be credited as Xuul, since anyone in the community knows me as Xuul and I operate on that handle. If a project credited me as "Justin Trudeau" instead of "Xuul" it would actually make it less clear that I was involved. My identity in the community is Xuul and not "Justin" or anything else.

2) Anonymity. Some people for professional, personal and/or Superhero related reasons with to keep their secret identity hidden. This is because some people on the internet have no concept that the internet is filled with real people and is in fact part of the real world.

Did something actually happen? I wonder since I'm probably the easiest person to find and I've never been bothered, which surprises even me sometimes.

Some people have VERY strong opinions on mods. Since everything I make has a comment box right below it some people decide to be jerks. You might "benefit" by being thought of a part of a group "The TSLRCM Team" whereas I am clearly identified as an individual.

I had a Neo-Nazi aggressively commenting on and spamming nonsense on one of my videos when I deleted his racist comments. One dude sent me a a very angry, aggressive email, accusing me of being sexist for my "Non-Skimpy Female Armor Mods for Skyrim" series. Because misandry or something. In both cases it could have just been a troll or someone real, either way it is unpleasant and annoying to deal with.

I am not like really worried about these people or the other various trolls who I deal with on occasion. I just don't need to deal with this outside YouTube on a Facebook, or in my personal email. On top of this is the sheer entitlement of some people who see me as their personal tech support calling me or messaging me in real life. 99% of people are not the problem, but all it takes is one bad apple.

Paranoid much?  :hrhr:

You would be surprised at the depravity of some people on the internet.

There is a reason I try not to list my actual name anywhere online.

Some people suck.

#47590 New News

Posted by Xuul on 25 July 2016 - 01:42 AM

Welcome to deadlystream.com.

Today’s post will mostly be dealing with updates and information (That is what news is supposed to be, right?)

The first and most important update of the day has to do with one of our wonderful staff members here on the site. Modder and Administrator extraordinaire, Sith Holocron, is moving.

Since his travels will take him far (across an entire beautiful, magnificent and humble country) to Alaska he will be taking a break from his admin duties. You can read more about it in his post HERE.

To fill the void left by SH you can take up and administrator concerns with Acting Administrator Fair Strides or one of our other wonderful moderators.

In other news, the long Gamefront Saga appears to be finally over. Thanks in part to some quick (and legally questionable) actions by Nexusmods all of the files that could be found at the Gamefront archive are now available on Nexusmods. This is excellent news for anyone who was looking to find mods as the searching should in theory be both faster and more accurate now that it is being hosted on the Nexus servers. This means different things for different people.

For modders: you can reclaim your mods by following this link and contacting them as detailed at the bottom of their post

For users: You can find mods for KOTOR HERE and KOTOR 2 HERE

I have also gotten an update in regards to Kotor: Aperion, a project I spoke about in a previous news post.

Taylor Trotter, President and Game Director of Poem Studios responded to some emails I sent him a while back and had this to say in response to my article.

1)      [as of April 29th] I have had no contact with Disney or EA.

2)      The project will be released in a mod. It will require the original game and use the original voice and music files.

3)      [In regards to the mod looking “Un Kotor”]  If you want a shot by shot remake of KOTOR, then this is not your game and I am sorry but as artist (and I wholly believe that, video games are art and I am an artist above all) that I need to have creative liberties otherwise Apeiron becomes void, it becomes a tech project; a conversion modification where it sits as a footnote; and I cannot abide by that. I think the Old Republic definitely had a different aesthetic than the movies and exploring what that atheistic is and how people behaved is infinitely interesting. I will give you a very comical example put it proves my point. No where in KOTOR are there any toilets. Why? Who knows, maybe they didn't think of it, or maybe it was such a small thing it would have taken time and money to put in the game, but there are no toilets in KOTOR. There are in Apeiron and the reason is, is that we have the tech and the time to make KOTOR much more open and explorable. Now I'm sure most people will run past the restroom in the Taris Cantina and never think about it. But there are people who will say "Wait...toilets don't exist in Star Wars...its feels too...normal." And I get that, but (and I kid you not) there is a Wookieepedia article on toilets in Star Wars, and we have them because I'm using the same rule I've had for the past decade while playing DnD, if you can argue a point as why something works or why something is there 99% I'll allow it... We do not take artistic ethos lightly.

Thanks again for reading. Please stay tuned to my Youtube channel and deadlystream in the near future as I have some interesting projects in the work.

As always, have an excellent day.

#46356 Star Wars Galaxy In Turmoil (Frontwire Studios SWBF III)

Posted by Xuul on 07 June 2016 - 11:16 PM

I'm just going to copy my post from the subreddit since I cant be bothered to type it all again. It is not exactly an answer to your question but here it is:

A lot of misinformation here. I hate to seem like the bad guy but most of what I am reading is just wrong. I want to try to clear a few things up.
There was no "deal with Valve". They only thing Valve has done is allow to release the game on Steam.
Here is a relevant quote from Ryan Morrison
"Steam works the same as the Apple app store, where they basically let everything up, and only take things down when they get a report under the DMCA take-down procedure."
Steam lacks even the most basic quality control . So them allowing a game on the platform, even an unlicensed game isn't anything new. In the past, there have been cases of games on steam that are complete and total rip offs of other peoples IP's. So the project is not legit- the only way it will stay up if the rights holders continue to turn a blind eye (something that will be less likely the more popular the project becomes).
This also has little to do with Kotor Aperion in that:
  • Frostwire's game is released on Steam. This makes it more visible and seem more official (especially with this talk of a "deal" with valve)
  • Galaxy in turmoil competes with a fairly recent game and might cause a (perceived) loss of sales for EA. This can incentives their lawyers to pay attention to the project.
  • Even if they let this slide, for the time being; they can at any time for any reason (or no reason) shut down projects using their IP. Take the Nostalrius WoW server shutdown. They let it slide for over a year before pulling the plug.
  • Aperion is attempting to release as a mod (somehow). Rightsholders tend to be a bit more lenient on mods. Not that it makes Aperion legitimate at all
Overall, I think people need to not get their hopes up. Things like this are cool but they tend not to go anywhere. I might be wrong since Disney/EA have been very silent on the issue; but until an official deal is made the house of cards could collapse at any moment with no recourse.
