Favorite Star Wars Film

Recommended Posts

Guest milestails

Well considering how this is a Star Wars board, let us all share our favorite and least favorite SW film.

Favorite: Star Wars (A New Hope, Episode IV)

Usually the first one you see

Introduces you to the lore and the universe

Uses other sources of literature and films (Kurosawa) for inspiration very well

Leaves you wanting more

Least Favorite: Tie between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones

Except for the lightsaber duel between Maul, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon, and seeing Yoda with a lightsaber, I really can't find any redeeming qualities about the first two prequel films. Phantom Menace was too childish and Attack of the Clones was all over the place.

Favourite: The Empire Strikes Back.

Reasons: Boba Fett. AT-ATs. Boba Fett. Hoth. Did I mention Boba Fett?

Least Favourite: Hmm. Let's go with Return of the Jedi, I suppose.

Reasons: Well, it was hard to pick a least favourite. RotJ had a lot of stuff in Jabba's Palace, which I have never really liked. Except for Boba Fett and Max Rebo being there. Endor was too green. I'm not a huge fan of green. I liked Luke's green saber, though.

Favourite: Return of the Jedi, because it features my favourite Jedi: Luke Skywalker! However, I don't like Jabba's Palace either.

Least favourite: The Clone Wars. I enjoy the odd clone wars episode, but I feel that Anikan having an apprentice between Episodes II and III just dosn't quite sit right with me. (No mention of an apprentice during Episode III, I always sort of assumed Ani followed Obi-wan around everywhere, and wasn't ready for an apprentice.) Also the art style is horrible in my view. Yoda looks utterly ugly! In the movies he just looked wierd- a nice sort of wierd.

I was stuck for about fifteen minutes trying to decide my favourite before posting, but I'll have to go with ROTS. Not really sure how to explain my reasons, so I'm not going to. It was a very difficult decision though, as I like all 6 equally.

There's only one way to say that I find the Clone Wars utterly ridiculous. I hate it. Especially Satine Kryze, the "pacifist Mandalorian". That's not physically possible. If you're a Mandalorian, you can't be pacifist. We're a warrior people, it's like calling yourself a lightsided Sith. One cannot coexist with the other.

I haven't seen the Holiday Special though, that's supposed to be awful.

i have to say i actually like the show. even though there are many things that really annoy me, Satine being one of them. i also cant stand how pacifistic padme is and how she doesnt understand the war is needed to stop the separatists.

RotS is good though. its the movie that got me into star wars.

Star Wars Episode V- The Empire Strikes back and then,

2. Return of the Jedi

3. A New Hope

4. Attack of the Clones

5. Revenge of the Sith

6. The Phantom Menace

ESB is my favourite and the other original movies because even though I was born post Return of the Jedi- they are still the first Star Wars films I watched and the best. I have to say that to me Attack of the Clones is the only decent prequal movie. I hate the Phantom Menance and Revenge of the Sith isn't too high up there either. The Star Wars movies have their cheesy moments but Anakin's fall was so cliche that everytime I watch his 'fall', I die a little inside.

Darth Vader> Prequal Movies' Anakin.

ROTJ, ROTS (for its technique), ANH, TPM (Darth Maul is just so...uber), AotC, EsB (well, every time I listen to the movie I'm like: "Luke, didn't you see/feel/smell the damned wampa? How come you don't guess the only intelligent life form on Dagobah IS Yoda, Han, why the hell can you just say "I know", Luke why can't you listen to your master for this one time, and a lot more like that). Still, these ratings are not very fair, as I consider the Star Wars to be just about equal one to another. They all have a little something to please me: DS trench run, Jedi duels, Asteroid field chase, and so much more!

Here is my list:

Favorite:Tie between Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith

Least Favorite:The Phantom Menace

Reasons:Anakin didn't seem as tempted of the Dark Side,I HATE JAR JAR,they killed off Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul too easily,I HATE JAR JAR ALOT,The story didn't seem as good, and.... I HATE JAR JAR BINKS!

By the way, please don't judge my opinion if you are like a Jar Jar Binks fan or something.

As I said, I enjoy the odd clone wars episode, but the art style just doesn't look quite right, Ahsoka (is that how you say it) shouldn't be Ani's apprentice, and... well yeah. They can't change it now though...

About Jar Jar, I think a little bit of Star Wars has always been having a few characters as a comic relief. (though not so much on Episode III). R2D2 and C3P0 filled this roll in the original trilogy, and continue to fill this role up to Episode 3, where it is somewhat lessened. I think Jar Jar was supposed to be another "comic relief." A guy for people to laugh at and not take seriously.

Examples of Comic relief:

Phantom Menace:

"What do you mean, naked?"

Beep Beep Bop Beep

"My parts are showing? Oh Goodness!

Attack of the Clones:

"What? A battle? No there must be some mistake! I'm a protocol droid! Not an instrument of destruction!"

*Shoots laser* "Die Jedi dogs! Wait! What did I say?"

Episode III:

C3P0 is reduced to a fleeting glance, but at the end he has his moment.

"...and wipe the protocol droid's memory!"

"Oh dear!"

Episode VI:

"We bring a message from Luke Skywalker. ... And a gift. A gift? What gift? ... No! This can't be right! R2, you're playing the wrong message!"

etc.

My personal favourite is Episode VI. I for one really love the scene at Jabba's palace (and Leia was never hotter ;)).

Episode V comes close though with the Battle of Hoth.

Ep IV ... well, that's the original and is already epic as such. And I could listen to 3P0 cry "we're doomed!" all day. But it lacks a bit in big, epic scenes (the battle of Endor is quiet good, I guess, but it still shows that it was a '77-low-budget production).

Ep I is quiet alright for me. I like young Annie, he's cute. They really shoud've given Qui-Gon and Darth Maul more screen-time or not let them die yet, they were formidable characters.

Ep II is my favourite of the new movies, but maybe I'm influenced because that was the first Star Wars movie I saw in the theater (possibly the first one I saw at all, don't really remember). Yoda's at his best and Obi-Wan is awesome too.

Ep III is alright, but I never liked the adult Anakin. It's just waaaay too obvious that he's falling to the Dark Side, but still none of the great masters can see it? And to be honest, I never liked Natalie Portman as Padmé. Also, Ep III feels a lot like tying up too many loose ends. Obi-Wan's awesome though. Too bad the Shak-Ti-scenes didn't make the final release (but that meant that she was allowed to live yet another two decades, I guess).

I stayed away from the animated stuff from the Clone wars for a long time, but I really enjoyed the Clone Wars movie when I finally wached it and really LOVE the series now. Ashoka has become one of my most favourite characters in the SW Universe.

The old cartoon-style Clone Wars series are interesting, but not really my style.

Same goes for he Droids-series.

You folks know the Holiday Special? It's hillarious, even though some parts can be a drag to watch.

Then there are the two Ewok movies, but I never made it further than 15min into the first one ;).

What I find so incredible, is that all the movies are still absolutely great to watch, after I consumed so much EU stuff (mostly books and games). Knowing all the background on Han, Obi-Wan, the droids, ... and also knowing what will become of all of them makes the movies a whole new experience! But they didn't lose any of their greatness at all for me.

3. A New Hope

4. Attack of the Clones

5. Empire Strikes Back

I quite enjoy the clone wars movie and television show also. I like to see the characters evolve over time and a tv show is the perfect way to do it.

Revenge of the Sith no doubt.

Why?

It is one the rare movies and stories, if not the only one, which presents the villains as triumphant at the end. Of course, we know this is a temporary state, but still, it's a HUGE good point.

Furthermore, this movie has the most spectacular lightsaber duels and the best plot of all the other films. (But if we think it over more thoroughly, we come to the conclusion that the WHOLE prequal trilogy has a much more subtle plot than the classic one does by default, anyway.)

On the otherhand, Anakin's betrayal was rather dull; he didn't seem to have been struggling as much as he was supposed to before swearing allegiance to Sidious. It was too easy for him to turn. In the book it was much more dramatic. This is the only negative point.

ANH, ESB, ROTJ are just cool.

Phantom Menace is too childish and was messed up with Jarr-jarr already.

Attack of the Clones: a boring slimy love story. When I first watched it in the cinema, I quite enjoyed it, but for the second run, I just wished it to end.

Dual of Fates was still epic, if unfortunately cut by Jar Jar. And ROTJ's dual remains one of the most emotional and impressive dual I've ever seen.

1. tESB

2. AnH

3. RotJ

4. tPM

5. AotC

6. RotS

Some may disagree and say AotC is worse than RotS, but upon careful review I have finally determined that RotS has a greater proportion of bad lines to cool moments (greater meaning more bad lines than cool moments).

1. ESB. "I am your father" - I was really shocked when I saw this.

2. RotJ.

3. RotS.

4. ANH.

5. AotC.

6. TPM. Jar Jar killed the movie.

Here is my order:

1. Revenge of The Sith

Reasons: I got a cool apprentice, become the senate, and killed all the jedi.

2. Empire Strikes Back

Reasons: The Rebellion gets crushed. Good times.

3. Attack of the Clones

Reasons: My army has finally been revealed and I am finally fulfilling my grand master plan.

4. A New Hope

Reason: My poor death star gets destroyed and I lose a lot of my forces. But I destroyed Alderran and claimed my

Death Star losses on my taxes

5. A Phantom Meance

Reasons: My spooky Santan apprentice gets killed and screws up my blockade of Naboo

6. Return of the Jedi

Reasons: I die and my other death star blows up without even blowing up any planets. Stupid Rebels

7. The Force Awakens

Reasons: Snoke is a bad sith lord. Just look at the size of his holograms! He is clearly compensating for something.

8. Rogue One

Reasons: This movie is about how "A New Hope" happened. It's all Vader's fault.

1. Empire Strikes Back, 'nuff said.

2. The Force Awakens. I actually slightly prefer it to ANH, mainly due to the characters being initially more interesting than Luke in Ep4, but they're both interchangeable to me.

3. A New Hope.

4. Rogue One. That.Hallway.Scene.

5. Return of the Jedi.

6. Revenge of the Sith, best of the prequels but still has some awful lines in it.

7. The Phantom Menace. Zzzz...

8. Attack of the Clones. Dear god, why does this exist.

1. Empire Strikes Back - A masterpiece.

2. Return of the Jedi - Nice ending to the franchise that tied things up nicely.

3. A New Hope - A good introduction to the setting that does a great job of establishing a solid core of characters.

4. Attack of the Clones - On the one hand, a serviceable plot following Obi with a decent ending. On the other hand, every scene between Anakin and Padme.

5. Revenge of the Sith - Good first half, second half falls apart.

6. Rogue One - It's definitely technically better than the two above it, but it just didn't have the spark that made it feel like a part of the universe. Really feels like an alternate setting most of the time.

7. Phantom Menace - Some pretty designs and I liked the Podrace... pretty much everything else is a disaster, though.

8. The Force awakens - A thoroughly unworthy sequel in almost every way. Finn is pretty much the only thing of value.

1: Empire Strikes Back: the best

2: Revenge of the sith: great

3: A New Hope: great

4: Return of the jedi: great

5: The phantom menace: A good movie overall. Has some issues but I can look past them

6: The Force Awakens: ANH 2.0 Also fin and ray utterly ruined this movie. Two of the worst protagonists in SW. Only above AOTC because that rebel scum was finally delivered justice for his crimes against the empire xD

7: Attack of the Clones: wasnt a great movie but still. Was decent at times

And 8: Rogue one... Very boring cringey movie that makes anakins and padme scenes look great in comparison
