Do I need MDLOPs or Hex Edit for vanilla heads?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if I require MDLOPs or Hex Edit to edit vanilla heads, every time I try and edit the N_Uthurah.mdl and N_Zharh.mdl to have new textures it ends up with the head either looking very weird or the texture and model are fine but the lips won't move. When I use the replace function in Hex Edit I use the same texture name length as the vanilla models.

Am I doing something wrong?

You don't need MDLOps to change textures. A hex edit will suffice. If the head is not working then you did something wrong. Btw, I would place a copy of the relevant MDX in the Override folder alongside the edited MDL. Sometimes the game can be a bit screwy if you don't.

Of course if the character uses a unique texture then you don't even need to touch the model. Just put an edited copy of the texture in the Override and keep the name the same.

Try using Taina's Replacer after you export your edited model to compile the head back together with animations. Worked for me

Thanks for the tips guys, I ended up using Hex Editor XVI32 to change the mdl file and it worked! I can't seem to make the writing on Hexplorer to be of a normal size.
