Exporting from GMAX?

Recommended Posts

So I've been making textures for some time now but decided to try my hand at editing models. Keep in mind that it's been about a decade since I've touched any 3D modeling program, and as much as I'd rather be using 3ds Max, I'm no longer a student and can't get the free license.

I have NWMax installed, I edited Carth's head, and I went to export and... it did nothing. Literally, nothing. Sanity Checks are turned off and neither the Export Geom Only or the Export Model+Animations buttons do ANYTHING AT ALL. I tried reinstalling NWMax, thinking that maybe I was missing a script, and that still hasn't fixed the issue, What am I missing?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated /sigh

Well, in the time that I chose to use GMax, I've never tried to actually export anything, I just wanted to find my way around 3D enough to upgrade to 3DS. That said, I know for 3DS, for whatever reason, I have to launch in Admin mode in order to export (I constantly forget that I have this disabled by default), so you might try that? Also, where are you extracting to, because you may not have permissions for that folder, or it may be a 'hidden' or 'compatibility' file.

For whatever reason, if I launch GMax from the actual GMax executable, NWMax doesn't like to export. I can import and edit models that way, but if I want to export I have to open GMax by using nwmax.exe to start the program instead. Weird, but at least I got it working :)
