What do you like about the K1 Mandalorians?

Recommended Posts

I've always adored the Neo-Crusader's Mandalorian armor. But from DeadMan's mod, I know some people didn't quite like them.

Why?

Was it the colors? Was it the lack of Mando'a emblems? Was it the lack of variety in armor pieces, as several "legends" star wars books wrote of? Were the helmets lame?

For tsl, the following mod done by DeadMan > http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/63-movie-mandalorians/

I liked them but the mod always broke my game due to some incompatibility issue with another mod (Especially on Dxun in the battle of Dxun or whatever its called). It became really infuriating so I stopped using it

That's too bad, I've haven't yet installed his mod yet. But what mod did you use after that for the Mandalorians? Or did you keep them as they were?

What I'm really asking is, how do you like the vanilla looking Mandalorians?

My problem is because the models themselves are Concord Dawn era Mandalorians which looks odd with the Kotor motif.

The Neo Crusaders are the same models we see in Kotor, and the Crusaders look like a cross between them and the Deathwatch.

Interesting, I always assumed the Neo-Crusader armor was built for the human species that joined Mandalore, while the Crusader armor was given largely to the Taung Warriors. I might have read this somewhere.

It would be neat if some modder made the Crusader armor thought. ^^

Btw, what's the one on the right?

I just looked it up, and it turns out the one on the right is a Deathwatch trooper. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Death_Watch/Legends

Also there are a few decent examples of Crusader armor in concept art and cosplay online, if anyone was planning on making a character model of them.

..Although the cosplay ones look a bit goofy... :|

I think why people hated the Kotor Mandalorians was because their appearance wasn't near as cool as Jango Fett and Boba Fett's armor in the movies. Kotor came out in 2003 a year after episode 2 and they probably found the Kotor Mandalorian Armor as non-intimidating at all when compared to Jango Fett's armor that had a Jet Pack combined with a rocket pack, a blade and a rope like in the movies. I personally feel like they should be a tad skinnier and have a Jetpack each. Maybe in Aperion or a new kotor rpg by disney there could be some awesome jet pack battles in the sky.

Good point! They didn't have jetpacks, though, to be fair it is 10,000 years prior, perhaps the technology was not adequate for Mandalorians to willingly carry around jetpacks?

I didnt hate the model... it was lacking though. I would have liked to have seen something that set Mandolorian Armour apart from other pieces of armour in game. not just design differences. Mandolorians do not inspire the same fear in the KOTOR series as they should off IMO compared to the movies and other EU content

10,000 years?! Excuse me!

It's only 4000 years BBY, and like 3955 or 3956 in KotOR 2.

But to state that! He is likely referring to the first Mandalorians but Fair Strides is very right when referring to Kotor Mandalorians.

KotOR 1 is in 3956 BBY. KotOR 2 is in 3951 BBY. But jetpacks could be in their early stage of development, considering the fact that it's, in fact, quite quickly losing height and easy to destroy in Episode II.

I actually like KotOR Mandalorians. Different design shows that the culture evolves, which is hard to see in other parts of Old Republic era. Like Malkior already mentioned, Death Watch armor doesn't really match with KotOR theme. And in larger groups they actually look like intimidating warriors.

It would be great if we could get a mod, at least for K2 where they look like the above art of the Neo Crusaders.

I personally think the Neo-Crusader armor is fine.

We maybe need to consolidate some of the reskins to generate a little more variance in the armors though. Shiny, dirty, faded, jungle camo, etc.

But what we might actually need is more variation in the armor. The Mandos are presumably all over the place, and one would think they have put effort into customizing their armor, be it painting on Neo-Crusader armor or starting to evolve the armor a bit. Maybe the Neo-Crusader purists like to keep their armor in its vanilla state, as a way of remembering the glory days.

And it would certainly be cool to see the Dxun camp start to evolve the amor a bit. Separating the helmet from the armor (similar to SWTOR-style mandalorians), armor that is much more cobbled, but still very "mandalorian" in design

THAT is why I made my mod! I like to have cool looking stuff in my game.

Ahahha, your Mandalorian mod does look amazing! I'm just a huge fan of Mandalorians in general, I just can't get enough of them. ^^

That's a bloody excellent idea!

They just look off. It doesn't look like a believable rendering of someone wearing a heavy suit of armor. It's too colorful. The shoulderpads look they were glued on the suit later. The helmet/head also looks weird, almost triangle-shaped, and that tiny black visor strip just looks awkward. I've always thought Boba Fett looked goofy, but the Kotor Mandalorians are even worse.

To be honest, I've never been a fan of most of the armor designs in the Kotor games. Bioware, and to a lesser extent Obsidian, adopted the gaudy aesthetics of the prequel movies rather than the visual style of the OT, which was a bit of a mistake IMO.
