Effix

Looking for help with an issue with my mod + TSLRCM

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this isn't the best place to post this, I didn't want to clutter up another post.

I made a Steam mod (Effixian's New Player Heads Mod) that hopefully can end up here too one day, it adds a bunch of new player heads.

It's a pretty straight forward mod but someone who tested it for me (metalfenix on Steam) ran into a crash, I'm hoping it rings a bell for you veterans.

The mod comes with instructions on how to combine it with TSLRCM and I'm pretty sure he followed them correctly. The instructions are there so that the mod only adds things to TSLRCM but obviously something is still conflicting.

His report:

"Effix, I must report a bug. Before I begin, I must say that I only have this mod and TSLRCM installed and I followed your install instructions word by word, and the game is updated to the latest version. It happened in two different playthroughs, one light side and other dark side, with the same head (your Effix head).

The bug happened on Dantooine, in the rebuilt enclave reunion, the game crashes when the reunion is about to start. On light side, after Kreia sits down, the screen goes black and stops, and in the dark side, when you’re about to initiate the conversation with Kreia, the game crashes and send me to desktop.

I tested on another play through uninstalling your mod with only TSLRCM installed (using a default head) and the game proceeded fine on the enclave reunion, so it must be a problem with your mod and TSLCRM, maybe it's only that head (the male Effix head, which I used on those two tries). I'm not quite sure if it's a problem that can be solved because it might be a conflict on that point of the game with your mod and TSLCRM, and you surely don't have time to test this, but at least you might want to check it out someday.

It's not game breaker, though. On my first play through (dark side), I ruined the save file by uninstalling your mod and even I tested by uninstalling the TSLRCM, but on the light side run, I managed to skip the enclave reunion by using the console command

warp 262TEL

which teleports you to the Telos academy after the Dantooine sequence (use it BEFORE entering the enclave) . It pains me to skip that conversation though, it's one of the most important of the game =( .It's worth mentioning that, after the enclave reunion, your mod has NO problems whatsoever until the end. So it's only on that point..."

- The head he picked is a variation of an existing player head, uses an existing 3D head model but with new textures (@Hassat Hunter: so not one of those that need a backuphead)

- As you can read above this isn't a random thing since he did a light & darkside run and he ruled out that it isn't my mod causing it since he tried with just TSLRCM

- In the compatible mods post here I did see another mod that had problems with the restored jedi enclave, but there were no details, maybe the problem is related?

I hope any of you may have a clue.

Why don't you list the instructions as well so we can see what your tester read?

In addition, I'm assuming that this mod and the TSLRCM mentioned are both from the Workshop. So depending on your instructions for combining the mods, this could be a .2da conflict or something and re-doing the mod's installation to use the TSL Patcher could help.

It's pretty much using a different .2da altogether. I assume you've assured it was from the latest TSLRCM and had all changes from us in it.

Since it's the academy that would mean;

Stuntkreia

Kavar

Vrook

Zez-Kai Ell

Kreia

Handmaiden

Visas

But all Jedi Master individual encounters go fine?

I added a folder inside my steam mod's folder for the people that want to combine the mod with TSLRCM. It contains updated versions of appearance.2da, heads.2da and portraits.2da, updated meaning those 3 files from TSLRCM 1.8.5 with new lines added to it that make up the mod. I doubt this would have been the only issue he would have if he hadn't followed the instructions. The instructions on Steam:

"I included a way to make things work with TSLRCM (English version only).

1. First back up appearance.2da, heads.2da and portraits.2da in the TSLRCM folder.

Those files from the TSLRCM folder should be here: [your drive]:\[your Steamlibrary folder]\steamapps\workshop\content\208580\485537937\override

2. I included updates for TSLRCM in my mod for the above mentioned 3 files. They are located in this mod's folder, in a folder named tslrcm.

Those files should be here: [your drive]:\[your Steamlibrary folder]\steamapps\workshop\content\208580\804581656\override\tslrcm

Go to that location, copy the 3 files, and paste them into the override folder of the TSLRCM folder (see step 1 for the location).

3. Also back up the 3 files in this mod's folder by renaming them (deleting will also do), else they will conflict with the updated ones in the TSLRCM folder

Location is [your drive]:\[your Steamlibrary folder]\steamapps\workshop\content\208580\804581656\override"

Yes, both workshop versions. I do intend to make a Patcher version to upload here, but I'm hoping I can fix this issue before moving on to that.

He said he was subscribed to TSLRCM on Steam and that should auto update, so I'm fairly sure he's using 1.8.5.

He said this was the only issue he had. I'll double check the lines relating to the characters you listed.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have another issue with my mod that quite a few people have been reporting on lately, once again I'm hoping it rings a bell with any of you. I'm unable to recreate the problem.

People are crashing while watching the Peragus maintenance officer's logs (the guy with the goggles).

- My mod does not contain a playable version of that npc.

- I added backup heads to the latest version of my mod, hoping it would fix things but the problem is still there. Also someone said it happens even when using a vanilla head.
- I did a thorough Google search, didn't find much but I did find a comment on the TSLRCM Steam version from 2015 of someone having the same issue, probably also because of using another mod. Could it be related or give a clue?

I'll do my best, but I'm afraid it doesn't add much, mainly because it's other people reporting the issue and I'm unable to recreate the issue myself, wish I could. I'm just curious if this is a known issue in any form or if anyone knows something that might be related.

1) During the game, when did the problem begin to occur?
Watching the Peragus maintenance officer's logs
2) Did you install the latest version of the mod?
Yes
3) What version of the game do you have? (Steam, GOG, 4CD, KotOR Collection?) What region is the game designed for if it's the 4 CD version?

Steam
4) Did you update your game as required by your game's region? (4-CD version ONLY)

-
5) Did you use the TSLPatcher, if provided?

-
6) Were there any errors in the TSLPatcher installation?

-
7) What other mods have you installed? Please give an accurate list and provide links to each of these mods - even if they are found on this site. (We don't actually know them all!.)
Judging from the amount of reports I'm guessing it's just TSLRCM and my mod
8) Can you be more specific about the error? At what point did it happen?
No, nothing more than at 1)
9) Have you tried re-downloading the mod?
Unknown
10) Have you tried using a different save game?

Unknown
11) Have you tried starting a new game?

Unknown
12) What Operating System do you use? (List Virtual Machines as well if you are using them.)

Unknown
13) What language is your game set for?

Unknown

@Lucy: The main thing is Effix is coming to us second-hand with the reports instead of having those with the issue report directly. So there's a much bigger lapse in help and communication.

@Effix: At this point, perhaps you could give those reporting issues the same prompt from the Read Me First thread, have them fill it out, and then paste that here?

I'll see if I can find someone to report here.
I understand it's not ideal like this, but I was still curious if it would ring a bell with someone here.
