Recruitable Maxis Mod

Description:
This mod will add a new character to KotOR called Maxis Lawquane, a merchant you will encounter on Tatooine and eventually add to your party on Yavin. A new game is recommended to get the most out of this mod.

Maxis has a quest just like the rest of your party. As you gain levels, more dialogue will be available with Maxis which will further his quest. I recommend you add Maxis to the party as early as possible so you don't miss out.

You will have the option to train Maxis as a Jedi or a Sith, which will affect his fate at the end of the game.

Access to the Shyrak Caves is required to complete Maxis' story, so don't finish Korriban before you finish Maxis' quest.

Instructions (if you don't want to know what happens in his quest or what to do, don't read this):
First you meet Maxis in the first module of Tatooine, situated to the left of the Ebon Hawk. There you can buy items from him; activate his sidequest; or, if you really want to, kill him.

Once you activate his quest, go to the Czerka offices and get in to a fight with the Rodian you'll find there. Once you've got the datapad from him, go back to Maxis for a reward. At this point, he leaves Tatooine and you can go and find him on Yavin.

To find him there, talk to Suvam Tan asking where he is. Maxis will appear and you can talk to him a bit more, and convince him to join your journey. He replaces T3-M4, whom you must sell to Suvam Tan in order to recruit Maxis. If you miss T3, don't worry, because he'll remain on the station and you can talk to him there.

After that, you have to level up a bit while talking to Maxis to continue the quest. Once you've finished the dialogue about returning to fight the Trandoshans, go back to Tatooine and you will be ambushed upon leaving the Ebon Hawk. This is a very difficult fight, you face off against 4 Trandoshans and their leader. Luckily, you'll get some custom loot as a reward.

After a couple more interactions, Maxis will stop wanting to speak to you. To complete the quest, you must talk to a Twi'lek found in the Czerka office on Dreshdae. Then you can talk to Maxis, and you will convince him to come with you to the Shyrak Caves to find a holocron.

The Glysh Family:
In version 1.4 I added the Glysh Family to this mod, and it's been expanded upon in Version 1.5.

The Glysh Family is a subplot that's intended to run through the entire game, but intersects with Maxis' story. Throughout the game you will come across members of the Rodian crime syndicate. In order to help Maxis on Tatooine, you have to kill one of the higher ups of the family, which causes them - and their leader, the mysterious Raika Glysh - to hunt you across the Galaxy.

Installation:
Just let the TSLPatcher do its thing.

Compatibility:
I can assure compatibility with K1R. For compatibility with Recruitable Kay, go to the folder labeled Recruitable Kay Compatibility and run the TSLPatcher. DO THIS AFTER INSTALLING BOTH MODS FIRST.

If you encounter or suspect any compatibility issues with any other mods, please PM me on DeadlyStream and I will be more than happy to try and fix it for you.

Bugs:
Maxis looks a little odd on the level up screen, which I believe is because he replaces T3-M4. It's nothing more than a visual problem, and has no impact on gameplay so I wouldn't worry about it.

If you come across any other bugs or miscellaneous problems please PM me!

Uninstallation:
Place all the files in the backup folder in to your Override and delete all files from tslpatchdata that are present in the Override.

Special thanks to Fair Strides, Kexikus, Darth Parametric and others on DeadlyStream who helped and answered my many questions for various parts of this mod. Without that help this mod wouldn't exist.

Special thanks to UnusualCharacters for providing voiceovers for Sith Troopers and Carth on the Leviathan.

Ah interesting! Been looking for some recruitment mods, this one looks pretty decent.

Looks fascinating for sure. I'll be trying this out soon

Thanks! :D

Recently updated it. :D

Now Maxis should look the way he's meant to if you have other mods that use appearance.2da that aren't K1R, he'll show up in the Dark Side ending if you make him a dark Jedi, and he has some new dialog about the Ebon Hawk and his time on Tatooine. :)

Well, I FINALLY got around to trying this. I'm using K1R and some graphics mods only, so I'm not sure how much K1R will mess with it. But I've reached Tatooine and found no Maxis, but a Rodian and Trandoshan I can piss off in the Czerka office. Killing them updates a journal that presumably should not be here at this point. So I'm not quite sure what's going on

Sorry for such a late reply.

I'm not sure what's causing that. The script that spawns Maxis is in the dialog of the dock officer, who has an automatic conversation when you leave the Ebon Hawk. If you warp there using cheats it doesn't trigger, so if you did that then that's the problem. Otherwise, are there no other mods you've got that may edit that dialog (tat17_01cust_01.dlg)? K1R doesn't affect it to my knowledge.

Actually, I just Force-buffered past the docking dude. Press 4 (default) to use a power at the right time and skip a forced conversation. So I guess that's what did it

I did get it to work eventually, guess that's why, but one small thing to point out: when the Sith are boarding, you can still tell T3 to save everyone. It cuts to Maxis's mouth moving to T3's usual beepboopbeep noises lol. I tested it, and it works fine, but just to let you know you might want to address that (and Carth still congratulating T3 for freeing them. Best CoA would be just to have him come up with some excuse for why he can't do it)

I'll take a look at that, thanks.

I'm pretty sure that has to do with an issue I encountered with the lev40_carth.dlg. Originally you couldn't choose T3 if you had Maxis in the party, but having that file in the Override created a worse problem further in the level. I'm currently trying to fix that.

There's a similar problem to that that takes place on the Unknown World. As it stands, I don't think either of them are game-breaking but obviously I'd like to have them fixed.

I finished the quest on Tatooine, but when I go to Suvam Tan on Yavin, there is no option for me to ask about Maxis even though the journal says I can find him there. I'm using only K1R, Recruitable Maxis, Yavin IV, and BoS:SR.

EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out, the Yavin IV yav47_denied.dlg overrode yours. I patched it myself.

There's a big update in the works that should be coming soon, and one of the biggest new features is that you will now be able to select Maxis to free the rest of the party on the Leviathan. I really want to give a huge thanks to the very talented UnusualCharacters who did voice work for two Sith Troopers as well as a pretty good Carth impression.

I can't really give an exact time on when the update's coming because I'm still working on it and then I've got to play through the game to test it out & take screenshots, but I'll update this thread when it's released!

A new portrait for Maxis would be cool, too. Maybe ask Sith Holocron to help you with one that looks like in Animated NPC portraits and use Fair Strides' knowledge how to make vanilla-like full body portraits appearing in party selection screen using K1/TSL UI. Maybe also ask for potential scripting help to make Maxis appear dark-sided when he becomes a Dark Jedi as originally intended by you and also perhaps make the alignment-reflecting background turn LS/DS when you turn him so with him becoming a Force user. These things could be really helpful for consistency in the plaer's interface.

Maxis will have a Dark Side transition in the new update as well as new and (hopefully) improved portraits. The full-body portrait still isn't great though so I'll keep what you said in mind. Thanks for the input!

Can I suggest changing Maxis' sound set from "Swoop Gang" to "Twi'lek Male" please?

Consider it done!

How's progress on the update?

As of yesterday all work on the update is finished and I'm going to start playing through the game to test it all very shortly.

Well, the new version is sure a lot better than these coming with previous updates, but sadly, the portraits are still not the best. And is that F35 armor animated? It has a couple of takes on the armor and a ridiculously big size of the file that will probably make most of modern computers freeze.

[snip] but sadly, the portraits are still not the best.

Well if DarthRevan101 wants to follow Quanon's instructions laid out in this blog post, I could make an animated portrait for him.  He'd have to let me know which of the K1 backgrounds from my mod that he'd like me to use as well.  DR101, PM me if you're interested and we'll hash out the details.

I think Quanon's tutorial is a bit above me; I don't have the tools I need or any skill in them.

Welcome to your ban.

Man, he got wrecked. And he got banned on his only post. Kids, take advice, don't make your first impression on Deadly Stream be a bad one, otherwise, you'll get banned.

This felt a lot better in my head.

Now that I look closer his user name is "DarealDrMaxis

But keeping on topic with this mod what do you need to do in order to get that Sith Ghost and his Tukata Ghost to spawn in the Shyrak Caves? Do you need to see Maxis' Sith Holocron dialogue and the ghost just spawns after that or does the ghost always appear in the caves at all times?
