Crash on Telos when getting on shuttle to restoration zone

Recommended Posts

Guest bigjfresh93

The title says it all.

The game doesn't even go to cut-scene and crashes (when 'movies' is enabled), and a window comes up from windows saying the game stopped unexpectedly.

I have disabled moves in the config file. I have removed ALL mods, including the TSLRCM, same issue.

I have changed graphics settings, sound settings, i've fiddled with just about every setting I can, no luck.

PLZ HALP.

Hello there. I have had a similar problem every time I have played TSLRCM and the Telos part. But on my end it's a little different. It will play the cut-scenes but it will crash every time the movie ends, or was it half-way through? Can't remember now. And it's ONLY Telos and only when you go to the restoration zone and also when you travel to other parts on the restoration zone. no other cut-scenes does this. And also the graphics and textures are all messed up when it happenes.

I have gotten around this problem by quickly skipping the cut-scene (and hope it doesn't crash, lol.).

Btw, have you tried excluding your KotOR 2 game folder from being scanned by whatever automatic malware scanning (e.g anti-virus) programs you have? I did that with KotOR 1 becuase I was having the problem of the game minimizing to system tray and being unable to get it back. That problem was gettting on my nerves, but luckily excluding the KotOR folder fixed it. Again, you can try it with Kotor 2 as well.

I'll get back to TSLRCM (this time in 1.8.3) once I've finished KotOR again..

I'm kind of just 'bumping' this thread, cause I've been working for a while to try and get this fixed.

I should also have made it known that I'm using a disc version (not steam or torrented), currently with no mods.

Though in the interest of being as thorough as possible, on this playthrough I was using several mods, including TSLRCM (obvs), reskins for Telos and Ebon Hawk (although I'm unsure how that may effect game script, but I am only a hobbyist programmer so...), Super content Mod (I know it is incompatible) and several other minor mods that are listed as compatible. I have removed ALL mods (including TSLRCM) from the override folder in the program data (x86) and also in the 'virtual store' location (which is the local roaming data, I believe)

But I know there are alot of Win8 compatibility problems with older games, so I may end up running a virtual Win XP environment (free for Win 8 users), and dragging my save over to the Virtual machine, and see if that fixes the problem. It's a ball ache, if it works.....

I thought I should update. ( Seen as this is kind of a niche topic, maybe my failure might help someone else)

Got a XP virtual environment running, patched and modded. Only to run the game and the graphics be bugged out.

I then realised a massive derp had occurred when I remembered that VMware does not allow use of actual hardware graphics, meaning that I was using VMwares rubbish graphics drivers and not any of mine (intel or nVidia)...

Next step (I was hoping to avoid, as XP is not supported anymore and cant multi-task) - Dual boot? Are there actually any other options at this point?

I don't know who to hate more, Windows 8 for being so darn incompatible (not just with KOTOR2!), or Bioware for not releasing any compatibility patches (I know the game is 11 years old, but whats a guy gotta do around here to play a game he bought?!)....

Did you try excluding your malware or antivirus scanner from scanning swkotor2 folder already? It did help with kotor, though it still minimizes/crashes, but only on starrtup if I'm unlucky. I know it's different problem but still..

It seems that all of these different problems with the kotor games cannot truly be fixed. A shame really, and who knows what problems Windows 10 will bring if W8 is already that troublesome.

Well, most things I can add;

* Did you try turning the movies off? The 3-sequence there has caused many people issues, but few outright crashing. Also with TSLRCM instead of being 3 cutscenes it's 'cutscene'-ingame-'cutscene'-ingame-'cutscene'... of course the mod that merges all 3 vids into one is incompatible with TSLRCM.

Ok, so on the PUREST fluke imaginable, I seem to have fixed the problem I was having (I don't know if this is generalisable to other people with this crash...). I'd pretty much given up, but decided to try this, I thought it might be a longshot, but I fancy myself knowledgeable in programming, so thought this might work...

So as I've said before, as I board the shuttle to go to the restoration zone, the game cuts to black and crashes.

Essentially all I did was talk to Atton about my newly found amazing force powers (and play a game of pazzak, but that didn't seem to make a difference when I tried without). I then boarded the shuttle and made it to the surface and met Boa-Dur. This is with all the movies turned off, "allow windowed mode=1", and a couple other tweaks added in the config file (.ini).

Although, the shuttle graphics are glitchy (no floor in the shuttle) when Atton says to 'Hold on tight, its gonna be rough'.

Tried it separately, then together all together with TSLRCM, M478EP, and Super content mod (again I know this one is 'incompatible') - they now all seem to work with movies on (and off). I wonder if this is patchable, should this fix be universal....

Thanks for the Replies, and HOPEFULLY others will find some sanity in this fix.

I think I've spent more time on finding a fix for this than I have on any one university project XD I've been at it for weeks!

Just as a closing comment ( and in the interests of being as thorough as possible) Now I'm on Telos' surface, going from the station to the surface causes no problems it loads fine and you can play with all my current mods. But if you try and load the game from a save made on the surface of Telos it wont get past the loading screen. It loads about 1/3 of the way and then just stays as it is, no crash, just stops.

My first attempt to fix it I used compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3) and it worked fine!

I had to move (copy) a game save from the windows 8 directory which is normally here:

C:\Users\ [user Name] \AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\SWKotOR2\Saves

to the 'normal directory' that XP mode uses which is normally here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\SWKotOR2C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\SWKotOR2\Saves

Note: I don't think the mods copy over to the windows XP directory (or some of them at least, as non of my reskins seem to have made it across, but the Super content mod did and TSLRCM seem to as well, which is odd), so you may need to copy the texture mods over the the virtual store overide folder.

I hope this helps ^^
