This is the Sleheyron Planet, which is a Work-In-Progress mod for KotOR

Blowfish64,

I'm sorry you are growing impatient with the lengthy development of this mod. It's true that building an entire planet from brand new areas is a long process. We work mostly with limited, homemade tools that often produce buggy results. We also receive no reimbursement for the time we spend working on this mod, which is well into the thousands of hours at this point. We also have real lives and problems that we can't neglect.

If you are growing impatient with the progress, you can always try out some of the excellent mods in our Downloads section. In addition, you could also provide constructive criticism about what you've seen of the project so far.

As a wise Jedi Master once said, "Patience, young Padawan."

Also, the phrase "Coming Soon" sounds a lot better than "Coming Eventually", but both are relative terms.

I am just glad this is being tackled. I love to see new lore friendly content and quests introduced to the game to refresh it over again. Makes the multiple playthrough value rise higher.

I am also in agreement with Sith Holocron when he basically said that rushing a mod is for those that dont care about quality. It is obvious SS cares about quality mods.

To be honest, given the scope of this project as well as the number of times it's been attempted, I expect it will be years before it's released, if at all frankly.  That being said, "Coming soon" to something like this I feel is a bit disingenuous, a term meant to stir up fan hype but not much else.  Let's be fair, you didn't really expect this to be finished in any reasonable definition of "soon" did you?  As you yourself just said, you're building a whole world with fan-made tools.  Regardless, I would offer constructive criticism, but unfortunately we have not seen much to critique at this point, so I'd only point out that the thread has been getting off topic mainly because updates are fairly sparse.  A couple of posts and screenshots now and then would help to know that this project is still being worked on, as opposed to it falling under the axe of real life, as most large fan projects do.

P.S. I'm not trying to be harsh here.  I'd love the chance to play this if it gets completed someday, and fully support and applaud you guys for the magnitude of what you're trying to do, I'm just saying realistic expectations should be set.

You are being harsh. You've read far too much into the thread title, and have chosen to focus on criticizing it.

Have you read the thread at all? If you had, you would see that while the title is "Coming Soon", this WIP thread is not meant to generate hype. If you want to see a great example of a hype-generating machine, I highly suggest watching an Apeiron live stream. Before I started this thread, I worked for almost a year secretly with my partner, Fair Strides. By the time of the announcement, we already had a significant amount of work done. As I've stated before, everything that we choose to show in this thread will be in a complete state. All the screenshots I've posted have been of things that are 100% complete.

Updates are fairly sparse because they don't need to be coming in every second. I try to focus more on modding and less on forum-ing. If you haven't seen anything to critique at this point, it's because you haven't looked. I've posted quite a few screenshots of finished areas, and Xuul has done a video highlighting three areas. We're also trying to keep a lot of it a surprise. Our testers were quite pleased and surprised to find there were several more areas they had never seen before already complete. I post project updates around every 2-3 months. They are farther between, but they're still regular. If you're wondering if the project is still being worked on, I can tell you: the project is still being worked on.

To be fair, I can ask you the same question: You didn't really expect this project to be finished almost immediately did you? I didn't say, "Almost Done: Sleheyron", "90% Finished: Sleheyron", or "Nearing Completion: Sleheyron". I said "Coming Soon: Sleheyron". I'm sorry I have apparently dashed all your hopes of a quick Sleheyron release. I guarantee nobody wants it to be released more than I.

But, to appease you, I'm changing the name of the thread to "Coming Eventually: Sleheyron", since it seems that's what you want in this instance.

Pff, not specific enough. How about "Coming Christmas 2023: Sleheyron". Lines up perfectly with K1's 20th anniversary.

Get a trailer release of "Kotor, 20 years later, now complete with Sleheyron and other restoration"

Hilarious; you got me laughing out loud with all this.

I just hope the trolling didn't get too much under your skin, SS.

I guess people forget you also just recently "dumped"  a whole bunch of pistol, rifles and blasters to pimp our games with!

What I want to know is when the Sleheyron HD Re-Release will be. ;)

January 1st, 2103, on the 100 year anniversary of KotOR. It will be called, "The Mod You Will Never Play"

Sorry you feel I'm being harsh.  Wasn't intended that way, but I can't change how you took it at this point. The fact remains that your title was "coming soon" over a year and a half ago.  If you didn't think it'd be done soon, you shouldn't put it in the title.  I'm not sure why that sentiment has generated so much outrage here.

Your last significant update was a little over 2 months ago.  Having watched many major mods fall into neglect and ultimate abandonment over the years, I asked semi-seriously and semi-tongue-in-cheek what was going on with this large "soon-to-be-released" mod.  It's not that I don't have the patience for it, and as I said initially, I expected this mod would take years with a good chance of it never being completed, hence why "Coming Soon" felt disingenuous, moreso now a year and a half later.  You could have just said "Work in progress: Sleheyron" which would have set better expectations, as the former made me think, "Wow, maybe they played it close to the vest and are actually nearing completion before they even announced it, how refreshing," rather than, "Oh they're making a huge expansion to the game, I'll be following their progress over the next couple of years, hope they make it."

Changing it to "Christmas 2023" is getting childish at this point.  Seeing your posts on this forum over the years, I figured you would be above that. Regardless, sorry that my comments have upset you.  They were not meant as trolling, as someone here mentioned, although that seems to be a catch-all term nowadays when someone says anything someone else doesn't like.

My comment was also rather tongue-in-cheek.. The reason many people feel your comment went too far (at least I assume this to be the case) is because you stated that "Coming Soon" had to mean that it would be released as soon as this year.

Now, I at least somewhat understand your concern about dead mod projects (Hey, I followed Team Gizka and The Dark Forces project), but in this community, if you see a post from anything near three months per update, it's a sign of a healthy project due for another update.

I imagine based on what SS has explicitly said that Sleheyron is very close to complete, but a bunch of difficulties have recently slowed the overall progress. I personally am holding out for when he's happy with the overall completion to be able to show off more screenshots. :)

Blowfish64, you gave a very tongue-in-cheek "Any updates on this project? Coming soon seems to be not so soon," and I gave you a polite and professional answer. Then, you continue your tirade against the thread title. Is it really that big of a deal that you needed to post about it again?

Once again, I have apologized that you were misled into thinking that there would be a quick Sleheyron release. I'm not denying that it's been a while since there was an update. I've stated that I'm not going to post every single little thing that we do in a bid to win attention in a WIP thread. I'm sorry you thought there would be a rapid turn around on this mod.

But now you do know, so now you can think "Oh, they're making a huge expansion to the game, I'll be following their progress over the next couple of years, hope they make it."

After two rather pointed posts about the thread title when I had been nothing but courteous, changing the thread title seemed to be a harmless way to make light of the situation. I have not accused you of trolling, but your post could be easily construed that way. I've changed the thread title to "Sleheyron" now.

Does this mean it's released??!!!?!

Lol.

Fair enough. Good luck on the mod. I hope it'll be great.

I think ending this here and waiting for the next big update would be the ideal thing to do right now....

Yeah, seriously, SS, just lock this thread between updates. Then you can work in glorious silence and bliss!

I don't want to lock it, as I think that would cause people to incorrectly think that the project was cancelled even if I provided explanation. Either way I will try to provide more updates as I work on the project.
