President Obama Re-elected

Recommended Posts

I'd have voted for him if I were in the US - a cool guy.

I always thought The Fonz was a cool guy. Perhaps we should elect him in 2016.

Yeah he is pretty cool but I still disagree with his policies on internet freedom and will oppose any policy that hinders internet freedom every step of the way. The thing is he is so much better than Romney by far so yeah I think we'll be fine with Obama winning as long as we can stop things such as TPP for example.

TL:DR I think Barack Obama is a pretty cool guy eh approves this message and doesn't afraid of anything.

Netherlands have a multy-party system with limitless amount of coalitions. As a result, politics there are all about pragmatism. Personal charisma isn't worth much. Very borring.

I must say, neither democrats nor republicans have convinced me that they care about me. So I voted for the libertarian guy. That is my way of saying "No" to both parties. As to Obama...we all know that he won partially because he is black, and partially because republicans messed up bad under Bush.

I personally am not happy with everything Obama has done/tried to do but to act as if there is no difference between him and Romney is quite foolish in my opinion. That being said here is a list of Obama positives and negatives.

OBAMA POSITIVES

- Preventing Second Great Depression

- Saving the Auto Industry

- Fair Pay Act

- Economic Stimulus including the largest investment in green energy.

- Obamacare (Health Insurance Reform/Affordable Care Act)

- Repeal of DADT

- Wallstreet Reform (includes Consumer Financial Protection Bureau)

- End of Iraq War

- Death of Bin Laden

- Good Supreme Court Justices

- Actually competent on the world stage

OBAMA NEGATIVES

- NDAA

- Attempts to push through ACTA

- Attempts to push through TPP

- Keeping the Patriot Act

- NSA Spy Center

- Beginning the process of Drones in American skies

- No action on Gun Control.

- Continuing the War on Drugs.

Yeah he's horrible on civil liberties but on everything else he's actually been pretty good honestly.

I never did say that they are equal. I simply reserve the right not to choose either of the bigger and the lesser evils. What happenes to my voice in that case is beyond my trouble.

By the way, don't forget to add to the negatives utter inaction on gun control and insane war on drugs.

Thanks, I added those as those are indeed negatives as well, I simply forgot about them.

It'll be interesting to see what Obama does now that he doesn't have to worry about getting re-elected

Spoiler alert! The same thing he's done the first 4 years ,spending the country into financial collapse, shoving the garbage "obamacare" at us and probably breaking his record of 93 vacations term. Lord knows he could use more vacations,it's got to wear you out spending other peoples money. :censored:

Damnit Stoney, don't start bringing people's records into this. It's all about hope and promise for the future. I personally think he should win another peace prize based on what he might still do in the next 4 years.

spending the country into financial collapse

Sorry, but that's all Bush's fault. Not so easy to clean up it is, as shown.

I'll agree that Obama is certainly not "good", and is merely the least worst option, and he's done several things I don't agree with - but he came in at a time where whatever he did couldn't be enough, and there would always be a criticism to it.

"shoving the garbage "obamacare" at us and probably breaking his record of 93 vacations"

Trust me you'll like "Obamacare" within the next 4 years when you realize it isn't too bad and it will become as irreplaceable as medicare and social security.

As for vacations, while every president takes vacations George W. Bush took a whole lot more, hell I remember him being down at his ranch all the time.

That being said Obama has done some good things and terrible things as well and he is very much a historic president but a mixed bag as well.

I think we'll be okay with Obama as long as we can hold back most of the terrible decisions like TPP for example.

Not all Bush's fault,it was mostly Barney Frank and all his little buddies de-regulating the money hungry :censored: banks that caused most of this.(some blame does go to Bush). It could be cleaned up faster than Nobama has,Reagan inherited a worse recession and un-employment and had significant progress in the right direction in his first term, (showing my age but I was around through that one also  ) so it can be done.

I'll never say Romney was the right man for the job, for all anyone knows he could have made it worse, it's just with Obama's socialist thinking and lack of progress not much hope for the future.

Stoney I agree with some of what you say, I will be 38 in December so I remember Reagan, but it is on all the people that were/are in office. The regular people in this country have gotten less and less of the wealth of this great nation of ours. Take a look at the income disparity that has taken place since the 1960's. Hell just since I started working when I was 16 the minimum wage has gone up what about 2 bucks in 22 years. Minimum wage hasn't even kept paced with inflation let alone C.O.L.(that's cost of living to those that don't know). Personally I think we should get rid of them all and start out fresh with the rich not being able to hold office or influence policy. We should have the ability to have recall elections on all federal office holders too not just state office holders. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against some of the rich they do do good things with their money but they are few. We have become a nation that is of, by and for the rich. What ever happened to of, by and for the people?

I am sorry Stoney I do have to disagree with you on this one here is a story from cbs news comparing how Obama compares on vacation days it's from 2011

clicky

and a quote from salon.com from April 2012 "A direct comparison places Obama squarely on middle ground of presidential vacation days used. Of the past five presidents, during their first year in office, only two, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton took less time off than Obama. Ronald Reagan, George HW Bush and his son all spent much more time away from the White House than the current occupant. Obama's retreat to Martha's Vinyard in August 2011 sparked a particularly high number of criticisms, however at that point in his presidency he had only taken a total of 61 days off. Compared to that same time in office Ronald Reagan had spent 112 days on vacation and George W Bush had been away for a total of 180 days. Bill Clinton, at 28 days, had the least time off of recent presidents. Reagan held the total vacation day record of 436 until the younger Bush left office with a grand total of 977 days away from Washington, representing 1/3 of his presidency." article can be found here clicky

- Continuing the War on Drugs.

Yeah he's horrible on civil liberties but on everything else he's actually been pretty good honestly.

Actually he signed an executive order in 2010 ordering the DEA to stop going after people in states that have legalized marijuana for medical use. The DEA tried to get the DOJ to stop Oregon, Washington state, and Colorado from giving the people of those states the vote on the legalization of pot in their states and Eric Holder ignored the request.

Actually Bush spent 180 days

Source: http://politic365.com/2012/05/08/obamas-vacations-of-any-president-bush-racked-up-the-most/

Yeah I know the link is pretty old but c'mon Obama couldn't have surpassed Bush in vacation numbers by now.

Um, could actually care less about vacation days... But how many terms are you counting?

I also see other articles that back up what Stoney is saying on Bush's number (no clue which is right):

http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/president-obamas-vacation-days/

Edit: Seems like each of these articles manipulate the time frames which are compared. Bleh, stupid argument anyhow, especially when you consider they just count all time not in the White House as 'vacation'.

"But at least two recent presidents — by Knoller’s count — took less "vacation" time during their first year than President Obama — Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton." Key phrase in the whole article.

Edit: I agree with your edit

This I thoroughly agree with :P . I wish we could get rid of all of them but where in the world could we find a non-corrupt politician? :hot:
